Dietary Law

The dietary law is something that has never been followed by Christianity, the proper understanding being obscured from them. On the completion of this study you will have a full understanding of these laws without any private interpretations given or alleged. We will let the scriptures speak for themselves as to their validity. We shall also expose the false doctrine taught by spiritual leaders in regards to why the world does not observe a dietary code today.

Let’s begin with scripture to define what the dietary laws actually are:

And YAH spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying to them, “Speak to the children of Yisra’el, saying, ‘These are the living creatures which you do eat among all the beasts that are on the earth: (Leviticus 11:1-2 The Scriptures)

Notice that this commandment is given by YAH, Moses and Aaron are merely the emissaries delivering the spoken word as commanded to the nation. The laws that YAH is about to give will be the standard diet for all nations, first to the Hebrews then throughout humanity through them.

‘Whatever has a split hoof completely divided, chewing the cud, among the beasts, that you do eat. (Leviticus 11:3 The Scriptures)

YAH clearly gives specific guidelines on how to determine what should and should not be eaten. The word states that if an animal has cloven feet and chews the cud [regurgitate the contents of the stomach and chew them again] that animal may be consumed for food. Let’s look at are more detailed examples of the guidelines that an animal must meet before it can be considered good for food:

‘Only, these you do not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have a split hoof: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not have a split hoof, it is unclean to you; and the rabbit, because it chews the cud but does not have a split hoof, it is unclean to you; and the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have a split hoof, it is unclean to you; and the pig, though it has a split hoof, completely divided, yet does not chew the cud, it is unclean to you. ‘Their flesh you do not eat, and their carcasses you do not touch. They are unclean to you. (Leviticus 11:4-8 The Scriptures)

These are the examples that you would need if someone required additional proof to the value of these laws. Their argument could be that these laws do not tell us not to eat an elephant or lion and that the law is incomplete in its’ dictate. However, this argument has no foundation, because of the chewing of cud and cloven foot criteria given. The Holy Scriptures may lack an itemized list of unclean animals, but the requirements needed to properly judge clean and unclean food is still complete. It is very simple, whether it is an aardvark or an antelope if they don’t have these attributes they cannot be eaten. YAH realized humanities fallibility in our understanding, which is why the food guidelines were put into place.

Let’s look at the guidelines given to govern what we should eat from the water.
‘These you do eat of all that are in the waters: any one that has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas or in the rivers, that you do eat. (Leviticus 11:9 The Scriptures)

Once again detailed guidelines are given to determine what may be eaten in the waters, lakes, rivers, streams, ponds oceans seas, etc. So if a fish does not have fins and scales it cannot be consumed.

‘But all that have not fins and scales in the seas and in the rivers, all that move in the waters or any living creature which is in the waters, they are an abomination to you. ‘They are an abomination to you – of their flesh you do not eat, and their carcasses you abominate. ‘All that have not fins or scales in the waters is an abomination to you. (Leviticus 11:10-12 The Scriptures)

The scripture restates the law and says that eating of such things is an abomination. What exactly is an abomination? Let’s look to the dictionary to find out:

A*bom`i*na”tion, n. [OE. abominacioun, -cion, F. abomination. See Abominate
  1. The feeling of extreme disgust and hatred; abhorrence; detestation; loathing;
  2. That which is abominable; anything hateful, wicked, or shamefully vile; an object or state that excites disgust and hatred; a hateful or shameful vice; pollution.
  3. A cause of pollution or wickedness.
  4. Syn: Detestation; loathing; abhorrence; disgust; aversion; loathsomeness; odiousness.

According to abomination is something that is hated or loathed, something that brings about extreme disgust. Are we to believe that eating unclean animals is disgusting in the eyes of YAH? The evidence from scripture would seem to establish this fact. Should we assume that our Father no longer hates these types of practices? How many things in our everyday lives have we hated, then for no reason changed are minds? Most likely none, and scripture tells us YAH does not change!

For I am YAH, I shall not change, and you, O sons of Yaaqob, shall not come to an end. (Malachi 3:6 The Scriptures)

Yahshua Messiah is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 The Scriptures)

Lets look at the dietary laws pertaining to the eating of insects. Yes, thats right insects:

‘Only, these you do eat of every flying insect that creeps on all fours: those which have jointed legs above their feet with which to leap on the earth. ‘These of them you do eat: the locust after its kind, and the destroying locust after its kind, and the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind. (Leviticus 11:21-22 The Scriptures)

Yum! In a pinch we can even eat specific types of insects. There is even scriptural evidence of one of the prophets eating locust:

And Yohanan was clothed with camel’s hair and a leather girdle around his waist, and eating locusts and wild honey. (Mark 1:6 The Scriptures)

Let’s look at some examples of what we should not eat:

‘But all other flying insects which have four feet is an abomination to you. (Leviticus 11:23 The Scriptures)

We see the word abomination again, which is what we established to mean extreme loathing and disgust. Again it arises while discussing things that are eaten. Let’s now look at the birds of the air and see if there is anything that regulates their consumption.

‘And these you do abominate among the birds, they are not eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the vulture, and the black vulture, and the hawk, and the falcon after its kind, every raven after its kind, and the ostrich, and the nighthawk, and the seagull, and the hawk after its kind, and the little owl, and the fisher owl, and the great owl, and the white owl, and the pelican, and the carrion vulture, and the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. ‘All flying insects that creep on all fours is an abomination to you. (Leviticus 11:13- 20 The Scriptures)

Let’s recap, if you eat pigs, bats, roaches, or catfish you are in transgression of this commandment, which YAH gave to Moses to speak to the people. Why? Will let YAH speak for himself:

‘For I am YAH who is bringing you up out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohim. And you shall be Holy (set-apart), for I am Holy (set-apart). (Leviticus 11:45 The Scriptures)

Many in the Church use the term holy frequently; However do they really understand what it is to be holy? Is YAH giving us a clear-cut example of what being Holy is by sanctifying us through His dietary law? Let’s see what the dictionary has to say about being holy:

  1. Belonging to, derived from, or associated with a divine power; sacred.
  2. Specified or set apart for a religious purpose:
  3. Solemnly undertaken; sacrosanct:
  4. Regarded as deserving special respect or reverence:

There are several key words used to describe being holy such as sacred, divine, spiritual and belonging to. Do you think it is safe to say that if we do not observe these dietary laws then we are immoral, unsacred and anti-spiritual? We all like to make excuses for practicing lawlessness, such as “only God can judge me.” How do you think he will see you when you are flagrantly ignoring something that he places so much emphasis on? Let’s look at another common excuse “God Knows What is in my heart”. Do the scriptures, which you have been shown so far confirm these ideas and comments? What would Yahshua (Jesus) do? Let’s go into the New Testament and see what Christians use to annul the dietary laws and see what Yahshua and his disciples would have done.

The most common scripture used to nullify the dietary laws is the story about Peter on the rooftop in Acts, let’s analyze this to see if this is true or pure speculation:
And on the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Kepha (Peter) went up on the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour. And he became hungry and wished to eat. But while they were preparing, he fell into a trance, and he saw the heaven opened and a certain vessel like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth, in which were all kinds of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping creatures, and the birds of the heaven. And a voice came to him, “Rise up, Kepha, slay and eat.” But Kepha said, “Not at all, Master! Because I have never eaten whatever is common or unclean.” (Acts 10:9-14 The Scriptures)

Let’s pay particular attention to Peter’s response to the instructions given to him by the Holy Spirit; He says, “I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” We must realize that the book of Acts represents the first thirty years of the New Covenant Assembly; this event took place eight years after the death of Yahshua. You have one of Yahshua’s disciples (Peter) saying that he has never violated the dietary code. Peter even felt so zealous about this issue that he actually says no to the command given by the Holy Spirit. If there was no need for a dietary law or if the death of Yahshua nullified the dietary code, then why would Peter commit such an act of defiance not only once but three times?

But Kepha said, “Not at all, Master! Because I have never eaten whatever is common or unclean.” And a voice came to him again the second time, “What Elohim has cleansed you do not consider common.” And this took place three times, and the vessel was taken back to the heaven. (Acts 10:14-16 The Scriptures)

In addition, if the law had been nullified by Yahshua then why wasn’t this ever communicated to the apostles during their three years of theocratic service?

Let’s look at Peter’s apparent act of disobedience in order to understand why he refused to break the dietary code. Why wasn’t Peter punished for his perceived act of rebellion? Let’s take a closer look.
And while Kepha (Peter) was doubting within himself about what the vision might mean, look, the men who had been sent from Cornelius, having asked for the house of Shimon, stood at the gate, (Acts 10:17 The Scriptures)

Why would Peter after all of this still doubt what this vision might mean? YAH has clearly told him that what he has cleansed let no man call common or unclean. This sounds like a license to eat whatever he wanted to, doesn’t it? Before you start thinking about roasting that honey ham, let’s focus our attention on the three men who had appeared at the gate. Its interesting to note that Peter had the vision of unclean animals three times, and soon after three men appeared at the gate. Coincidence? Doubtful. The common weakness in many religions, particularly Christianity, is that once an answer seems apparent then they stop reading. As we continue reading the book of Acts the reasoning behind this revelation will be made clear.

And he said to them, “You know that a Yehudite man is not allowed to associate with, or go to one of another race. But Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean. (Acts 10:28 The Scriptures)

Well isn’t that something! We can see that Peter did not receive instruction to eat unclean animals but rather instructions to graft the Gentiles (Indo- Eurasians) into the New Covenant assembly who were previously considered to be unclean. Let’s continue to read, to see how accurate this statement is:

And the emissaries and brothers who were in Yehudah heard that the gentiles also received the word of Elohim. And when Kepha went up to Yerushalayim, those of the circumcision were contending with him, saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!” (Acts 11:1-3 The Scriptures)

When the scriptures speak of “those of the circumcision” this is in reference to Hebrew Israelites. If it was not unlawful for Peter to keep company with the Gentiles then why would his fellow Apostles who are under the spiritual headship and guidance of Yahshua the Messiah, challenge him about this situation? The fabrication that has been perpetuated for over two thousand years has been shown as a absolute lie! We cannot eat whatever we want but we must do what is lawful and holy, which is to observe the WORD OF YAH!

YAH said in Leviticus 11 when he set down these laws that we must be holy for he is holy. If you continue to eat foods that YAH has not sanctified (set apart) as clean then you are UNHOLY! Now let’s look at another scripture that is used to abolish one of the laws of sanctification, the dietary code.
But the Spirit distinctly says that in latter times some shall fall away from the belief, paying attention to misleading spirits, and teachings of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having been branded on their own conscience, forbidding to marry, saying to abstain from foods which Elohim created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. Because every creature of Elohim is good, and none is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, (1 Timothy 4:1-4 The Scriptures)

Wow! We seem to have a scripture in the New Testament, which clearly states that we can eat all meats whether clean or unclean, just by blessing it. This is one of the most highly quoted scriptures in Christianity by religious leaders and unwitting promoters of lawlessness. However before we get to comfortable with this idea, lets take the time to analyze this scripture and see exactly what Paul was really telling Timothy.

First, Paul says that a religious system would rise which would promote a doctrine (teaching) of Demons! Let’s see what religious system that could be.

Paul says that this system would forbid marriages and command that meats should not be eaten. Lets look at a secular reference and see if we can unearth some history.
In 529 Benedict drew up his rule or regula, which was gradually adopted by most monasteries in the West. The regula required the monks to take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and their monastery was organized as a family, under abbot – the word comes from the Greek abbas, meaning father. Life in the 6th and 7th century monasteries was severe but not harsh, being divided between sleeping, working and praying. The monks had a pound of bread, two cooked dishes and a measure of wine each day, though eating meat was forbidden. “./,Readers Digest, The Last Two Million Years; Growth of the monasteries; Copyright, 1973, Page 217.

Forbidding to Marry and Abstaining from Meats! The system that Paul saw was the rise of Gnosticism later to be called Christianity under the head ship of Ignatius. This would be and is, a religious system, which teaches lawlessness as the way of receiving eternal life and worshiping the Father.

Notice what Yahshua says about the last days, during judgment:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens. “Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:21-23 The Scriptures)

Yahshua is condemning all religious leaders who have claimed to promote a system in his name, by declaring that they were workers of lawlessness. Isn’t keeping the dietary law, the will of YAH? Is it lawlessness to break the dietary law? There are only two organizations, which claim to profess the Messiah. They are Christians and the New Covenant Hebrew assemblies. One says that you have to be obedient to the laws of YAH and the other says that the blood of Jesus nullified the laws. Which one are you? Let’s see what Paul says here about meat.

Because every creature of Elohim is good, and none is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the Word of Elohim and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:4-5 The Scriptures)

Do you have any idea what the word sanctified means?

  1. To set apart for sacred use; consecrate.
  2. To make holy; purify.
  3. To make productive of holiness or spiritual blessing.

Let’s look at sanctify in Leviticus 11 and also see if YAH has set-apart anything.

‘Do not make yourselves abominable with any creeping creature that creeps, and do not make yourselves unclean with them, lest you be defiled by them. ‘For I am YAH your Elohim, and you shall set yourselves apart. And you shall be sanctified (set- apart), for I am sanctified (set-apart). And do not defile yourselves with any creeping creature that creeps on the earth. (Leviticus 11:43-44 The Scriptures)

Paul’s message to Timothy is now clear, when he wrote that the food offered had been sanctified by the word of YAH. gave the definition of sanctified as being set apart; to make holy: These are the same words used by YAH when he gave this law in the first place. No matter how hard we try we inevitably end up in the law books to qualify the statements of the New Testament. The consumption of unclean animals has never been advocated by any one in the Old or New Testament who professed to be “Christ like”. Christians along with other denominations often misinterpret scripture because they do not understand that Paul often times wrote with the expectation that the people were familiar with the Torah.

Or do you not know, brothers – for I speak to those knowing the Torah – that the Torah rules over a man as long as he lives? (Romans 7:1 The Scriptures)

And that from a babe you have known the Sanctified (Set-apart) Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for deliverance through belief in Messiah Yahshua. (2 Timothy 3:15 The Scriptures)

Yahshua even let’s us know the importance of sanctified (set-apart) consumption:

“Blind guides – straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! (Matthew 23:24 The Scriptures)

Why would Yahshua use this parallel if he along with everyone else in the Hebraic culture did not observe the law? A camel according to the guidelines given by Our Father is an UNCLEAN ANIMAL! If there is no law, then why is there a judgment pronounced on those who eat abominations at the second coming of Yahshua?

“For by fire and by His sword YAH shall judge all flesh, and the slain of YAH shall be many – those who set themselves apart and cleanse themselves at the gardens after ‘One’ in the midst, eating flesh of pigs and the abomination and the mouse, are snatched away, together,” declares YAH. (Isaiah 66:16-17 The Scriptures)

If your religious leader or anyone else says that you don’t have to observe this law he is lying, because the laws of sanctification are clearly established in Leviticus chapter eleven! We all need to make a decision as to whom we are going to trust: YAH or man. It is time to sanctify ourselves by the words found in Scripture and not what we feel, believe or heard
