Feast of Tabernacles

The purpose of this study is to show the relevance of the feast of Tabernacles. We will examine the scriptures to reveal what it represented in the days of old, and what it will represent in the future.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "Speak to the children of Yisra’el, and tell them, ’The set feasts of YAH, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my set feasts. (Leviticus 23:1-2 RNEB)

Feast in Hebrew is moeb, which means an appointment, that is, a fixed time or season; specifically a festival; conventionally a year; by implication, an assembly (as convened for a definite purpose); We cannot keep a feast when we want to, it has to be done when the Most High has set the time.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "Speak to the children of Yisra’el, and say, ’On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of Tabernacles [booths] for seven days to YAH. On the first day shall be a holy convocation: you shall do no regular work. Seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to YAH. On the eighth day shall be a holy convocation to you; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to YAH. It is a solemn assembly; you shall do no regular work. (Leviticus 23:33-36 RNEB)

During the feast of tabernacles we’re required to have a convocation on the first and eighth day. The sacrifice is no longer required, Yahshua fulfilled all sacrificial ordinances, anything to do with the shedding of blood, however he did not fulfill the convocation itself, we are still required to come together, and it is a day of rest, no regular work should be done.

"’These are the appointed feasts of YAH, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to YAH, a burnt offering, and a meal offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, each on its own day; besides the Sabbaths of YAH, and besides your gifts, and besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings, which you give to YAH. "’So on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruits of the land, you shall keep the feast of YAH seven days: on the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest. You shall take on the first day the fruit of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before YAH your Elohim seven days. (Leviticus 23:37-40 RNEB)

The trees being described were indigenous to the region they were in.

You shall keep it a feast to YAH seven days in the year: IT IS A STATUTE FOREVER THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS; you shall keep it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in Tabernacles seven days. All who are native-born in Yisra’el shall dwell in Tabernacles, that your generations may know that I made the children of Yisra’el to dwell in Tabernacles, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt. I am YAH your Elohim.’" Moshe declared to the children of Yisra’el the appointed feasts of YAH. (Leviticus 23:41-44 RNEB)

This is a holy day that is required to be kept in our time, we will also see it will be required to be kept during the Theocratic Kingdom, when Yahshua rules the earth as King of Kings.

HIS FEET WILL STAND IN THAT DAY ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES, which is before Yerushalayim on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in two, from east to west, making a very great valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and half of it toward the south. (Zechariah 14:4 RNEB)

This is describing the Messiah returning.

Then YAH will be king over the whole world. On that day YAH will be the only one, and his name will be the only name. (Zechariah 14:9 RNEB)

There will no longer be worship to pagan deities through the celebration of holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and Valentines day. YAH will be the only one that will be worshipped.

This will be the plague with which YAH will strike all the peoples who have warred against Yerushalayim: their flesh will consume away while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will consume away in their sockets, and their tongue will consume away in their mouth. (Zechariah 14:12 RNEB)
It will happen that everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Yerushalayim will go up from year to year to worship the King, YAH of Armies, and TO KEEP THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES. (Zechariah 14:16 RNEB)

If they’re keeping this holy convocation in the next age why would we think it has been done away with in this age?

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "Speak also to the children of Yisra’el, saying, ’Most certainly you shall KEEP MY SABBATHS: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am YAH who sanctifies you. (Exodus 31:12-13 RNEB)

Notice Sabbaths is plural, we’re commanded to observe nine gatherings:

  1. The Sabbath (every 7th day)
  2. New Moons
  3. Unleavened Bread (1st and 7th day)
  4. Pentecost
  5. Trumpets
  6. Day of Atonement
  7. Tabernacles (1st and 8th day)

These are the appointed times that the almighty Elohim has commanded and mandated us to assemble on to hear his oracles and to be sanctified (set-apart) in the eyes of the nations and the Divine Order. All the days mentioned that we’re supposed to present ourselves are called Sabbaths, which means to cease from our labors and rest. These were given as an everlasting sign between us and the Most High.

Therefore the children of Yisra’el shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath THROUGHOUT THEIR GENERATIONS, FOR A PERPETUAL COVENANT. (Exodus 31:16 RNEB)

The Sabbaths were given as a perpetual (everlasting) covenant (contract, agreement, undertaking, commitment).

IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE CHILDREN OF YISRA’EL FOREVER; for in six days YAH made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.’" (Exodus 31:17 RNEB)
It will happen that everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Yerushalayim will go up from year to year to worship the King, YAH of Armies, and to keep the feast of Tabernacles. It will be, that whoever of all the families of the earth doesn’t go up to Yerushalayim to worship the King, YAH of Armies, on them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt doesn’t go up, and doesn’t come, neither will it rain on them. This will be the plague with which YAH WILL STRIKE THE NATIONS THAT DON’T GO UP TO KEEP THE FEAST OF Tabernacles. (Zechariah 14:16-18 RNEB)

ConclusionEveryone that claims to be keeping the laws and commandments of the Most High must keep his holy convocations and adhere to all the precepts given to govern these days. They are what mark and separate us from the rest of the world, which created there own holidays, and worship false elohims.

The Apostles Kept the Sabbaths

He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined; but taking his leave of them, and saying, "I MUST BY ALL MEANS KEEP THIS COMING FEAST IN YERUSHALAYIM, but I will return again to you if Elohim wills," he set sail from Ephesus. (Acts 18:19-21 RNEB)
He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE DAY OF SABBATH, and stood up to read. (Luke 4:16)
He came down to Peterr-Nachum, a city of the Galil. He was TEACHING THEM ON THE DAY OF SABBATH, (Luke 4:31 RNEB)
It also happened ON ANOTHER SABBATH THAT HE ENTERED INTO THE SYNAGOGUE and taught. There was a man there, and his right hand was withered. (Luke 6:6)
WHEN THE SABBATH HAD COME, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things?" and, "What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands? (Mark 6:2)
He was teaching in one of the synagogues ON THE DAY OF SABBATH. (Luke 13:10)
But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. THEY WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE DAY OF SABBATH, and sat down. After the reading of the Torah and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak." (Acts 13:14-15)
For those who dwell in Yerushalayim, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read EVERY SABBATH, fulfilled them by condemning him. (Acts 13:27)
So when the Hebrews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. (Acts 13:42)
The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of Elohim. (Acts 13:44)
For Moshe from generations of old has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath." (Acts 15:21)
