Immanuel, Elohim With Us II

The purpose of this study is to answer questions concerning the prophetic name of the coming Messiah. If the prophecies state the coming Messiah shall be called Immanuel then why was he named Yahshua as instructed by the angel Gavriel and prophesied in the book of Zechariah. We will look at the scriptures to see if there is something more to the name Immanuel and also cover the following:

  • The Building of the tabernacle and its significance
  • The presence of YAH in the tabernacle
  • Shlomo’s reason for building the first temple.
  • The absense of the spirit from the temple, when and why?
  • The birth and purification of Yahshua.
  • The Return of the spirit, when, where, and why?
  • The purpose of Yahshua’s presence.
  • What does Immanuel mean?
  • Yahshua’s prophetic association with Immanuel.

We will also continue to address why YAH has given sanctification laws for his sanctuary. These are the laws that set us apart from people, the tabernacle, and different things within the world system. It’s important that you read part one of this study before reading part two to understand properly the prophecy concerning the name Immanuel.

YAH has set at nothing all my mighty men in the midst of me; He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men: YAH has trodden as in a winepress the virgin daughter of Judah. For these things I weep; my eye, my eye runs down with water; Because the comforter who should refresh my soul is far from me: My children are desolate, because the enemy has prevailed. (Lamentations 1:15-16 RNEB)
YAH spoke again to Achaz, saying, "Ask a sign of YAH your Elohim; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above." But Achaz said, "I will not ask, neither will I tempt YAH." He said, "Listen now, house of David: Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my Elohim also? Therefore YAH himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanu’el. (Isaiah 7:10-14 RNEB)
For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty Elohim, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of YAH of Armies will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7 RNEB)
A shoot will come out of the stock of Yishai, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit. THE SPIRIT OF YAH WILL REST ON HIM: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YAH. (Isaiah 11:1-2 RNEB)

In the first part of this study we established that the presence, or glory of Elohim was in the Tabernacle in the wilderness and the temple Shlomo built. The people could not enter because of his presence. Then later in the history of Yisrael we read in Ezekiel that the glory of Elohim left the temple just before Nevukhadnetzar invaded the land. The tabernacle was important because it was the dwelling place of the Most High, and the question we need to answer and look at in more detail is when was the spirit supposed to return?

His delight will be in the fear of YAH. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the sash around his hips. (Isaiah 11:3-5 RNEB)

Isaiah prophesied a Messiah that would be called Immanuel, and we see that the Spirit would rest on him.

"Behold, MY SERVANT, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delights-- I HAVE PUT MY SPIRIT ON HIM. He will bring right-ruling to the nations. (Isaiah 42:1 RNEB)

We have a prophecy of a coming Messiah, a deliverer and YAH says prophetically he will put his Spirit on him, this is the second time Isaiah has said this. Keep in mind as we continue that the name given an individual often speaks to a action, purpose, or function. For example:

Moshe’s name means drawn from water, because he was pulled from the water.
Yahshua’s name means YAH is salvation.
Yochanan’s name means YAH is gracious.

We can see the process of works and actions that are associated with the name.

Now it happened, when all the people were purified, Yahshua also had been purified, and was praying. The sky was opened, and THE HOLY SPIRIT DESCENDED in a bodily form as a dove on him; and a voice came out of the sky, saying "You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased." (Luke 3:21-22 RNEB)

Remember the prophecy stated that a Messiah, someone that would be a servant of YAH would come, and he would place his spirit on him.

Yahshua, when he was purified, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw THE SPIRIT OF ELOHIM DESCENDING as a dove, and coming on him. Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:16-17 RNEB)

The Holy Spirit, Spirit of Elohim, Spirit of the Lord all refer to the same thing, they are not different entities, they are all references to angels, the malachem which always acted as agents of the Most High. To gain a proper understanding of this subject please review the studies on the Divine Order, which will help further clarify many of the things being discussed.

The next day, he saw Yahshua coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of Elohim, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ’After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’ I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came immersing in water: that he would be revealed to Yisra’el." Yochanan testified, saying, "I HAVE SEEN THE SPIRIT DESCENDING like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him. I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to immerse in water, he said to me, ’On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who immerses in the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of Elohim." (John 1:29-34 RNEB)

The prophesied name was Immanuel because the comforter or spirit had left the sons of Yisrael, and it was prophesied this spirit would return. Immanuel means Elohim is with us, in the old testament he dwelled in the sanctuary of the temple, however at his return it was prophesied that the spirit would dwell in a temple not made by hands. The reference is to the specific angel that dwelled in the temple of old returning to dwell in a body of flesh.

in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of our sins; who is the image of the invisible Elohim, the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:14-15 RNEB)

This is not speaking directly of Elohim but the image of the invisible Elohim, and the dialog "the first born over all creation" is a reference to his authority, he was put in a position of authority over all the creation of the earth, being first born from the dead, it’s not saying he was the first born of all creation at the beginning of time.

But ALL THINGS ARE OF ELOHIM, who reconciled us to himself through Yahshua the Anointed, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; namely, that ELOHIM WAS IN THE ANOINTED RECONCILING THE WORLD TO HIMSELF, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19 RNEB)

Elohim was in the anointed, he was not the man, just in the man. The same way Elohim dwelled in the tabernacle in the old testament, he would dwell in a man to renew and re-establish his covenant. We have seen in the first part of this study that it was an angel that represented Elohim in the wilderness, just as it’s the same angel that came to abode in Yahshua at his purification. Elohim was with us when he came to dwell in Yahshua the anointed.

We also need to understand in the Hebraic culture every leader or man who is of great authority is called Elohim, god, Baal, Adon, Lord or Master. The title that is ascribed to them because of their power is El or Elohim especially to those who were involved in teaching Elohim’s word, such as the Sadducees, Pharisees, Scribes and later the Rabbinical Society (Mighty One’s).

  1. Genesis 36:38 Baal-hanan - Lord Hanan
  2. Exodus 14:2 Baal-zephon - Lord Zephon
  3. Numbers 25:3 Baal-peor - Lord Peor
  4. Joshua 10:1 Adoni-zedek - Lord Zedek
  5. Judges 1:5 Adoni-bezek in Bezek - Lord Bezek
  6. Exodus 7:1 Moses Elohim (God) to Pharaoh
  7. Isaiah 9:6 Yahshua El Gibor (Mighty God)
  8. Psalms 82:1-6 The judges in Israel are Elohim (Gods)
  9. John 10:34 Yahshua confirms that the leaders in Yisrael are gods (Elohim) according to the word of YAH.

Every time we see the term elohim, god, or lord it does not always directly reference the one and only Almighty Elohim. There is only one Most High and that is YAH. Elohim is a multi-plural word often used to represent the Divine Order which go forth as agents or ambassadors acting in the Most Highs behalf, however it’s important that we remember YAH must always receive all the glory.

Now indeed even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service, and an earthly sanctuary. For a tabernacle was prepared. In the first part were the menorah, the table, and the show bread; which is called the Holy Place. After the second veil was the tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies, having a golden altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which was a golden pot holding the manna, Aharon’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; and above it Keruvim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat, of which things we can’t speak now in detail. (Hebrews 9:1-5 RNEB)

There were two covering Keruvim [angels] on the mercy seat, and scripture only directly refers to the them in scripture once.

Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services, but into the second the High Priest alone, once in the year, not without blood, which he offers for himself, and for the errors of the people. The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing; which is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshipper perfect; being only (with meats and drinks and various washings) fleshly ordinances, imposed until a time of reformation. But the Anointed having come as a High Priest of the coming good things, THROUGH THE GREATER AND MORE PERFECT TABERNACLE, NOT MADE WITH HANDS, that is to say, not of this creation, nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: how much more will the blood of the Anointed, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to Elohim, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living Elohim? (Hebrews 9:6-14 RNEB)

Notice Yahshua is being associated with tabernacles and sacrifices, which as a holy place could never be defiled. Let’s review why the tabernacle was built in the wilderness.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "Speak to the children of Yisra’el, that they take an offering for me. From everyone whose heart makes him willing you shall take my offering. This is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, brass, blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats’ hair, rams’ skins dyed red, sea cow hides, shittim wood, oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense, shoham stones, and stones to be set for the efod and for the breastplate. LET THEM MAKE ME A SANCTUARY, THAT I MAY DWELL AMONG THEM. (Exodus 25:1-8 RNEB)

The purpose of the sanctuary was for a dwelling place for Elohim.

It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tent of meeting before YAH, WHERE I WILL MEET WITH YOU, TO SPEAK THERE TO YOU. There I WILL MEET WITH THE CHILDREN OF YISRA’EL; AND THE PLACE SHALL BE SANCTIFIED BY MY GLORY. I will sanctify the tent of meeting and the altar: Aharon also and his sons I will sanctify, to minister to me in the Priest’s office. I will dwell among the children of Yisra’el, and will be their Elohim. They shall know that I am YAH their Elohim, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, THAT I MIGHT DWELL AMONG THEM: I am YAH their Elohim. (Exodus 29:42-46 RNEB)

Elohim would dwell in the tabernacle to meet and speak to the children of Yisrael.

For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: how much more will the blood of the Anointed, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to Elohim, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living Elohim! (Hebrews 9:11-14 RNEB)

Yahshua is being identified as a perfect tabernacle and then a better sacrifice.

YAH appeared to Shlomo by night, and said to him, I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a HOUSE OF SACRIFICE. (2 Chronicles 7:12 RNEB)

A house was built for Elohim to dwell in so his presence would be among the people. It was a commandment that sacrifices be made at, and in the tabernacle in the presence of Elohim.

Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered! Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand: FOR ELOHIM IS WITH US [Hebrew: Immanuel]." For YAH spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying, "Don’t say, ’A conspiracy!’ concerning all about which this people say, ’A conspiracy!’ neither fear their threats, nor be terrorized. YAH of Armies is who you must regard as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread. HE WILL BE A SANCTUARY, but for both houses of Yisra’el, he will be a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Yerushalayim. (Isaiah 8:9-14 RNEB)

This prophecy is dealing with the coming Messiah and Immanuel, it’s prophesied he will be a sanctuary. Who is the prophet speaking about? Let’s find out.

coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by Elohim, precious. You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to Elohim through Yahshua the Anointed. Because it is contained in Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Tziyon a chief cornerstone, chosen, and precious: He who believes in him will not be disappointed." For you who believe therefore is the honor, but for those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected, has become the chief cornerstone," and, "a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense." For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed. (1 Peter 2:4-8 RNEB)
HE WILL BE A SANCTUARY, but for both houses of Yisra’el, he will be a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Yerushalayim. (Isaiah 8:14 RNEB)

Yahshua will be the sanctuary, and if he’s the structure, there has to be something housed in it. Yahshua became the habitation place for Elohim, an agent of YAH, a holy spirit. So Elohim was with us [Immanuel] when he was residing in Yahshua’s body for the purpose of dwelling with, and ministering to the sons of Yisrael.

For the Torah, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? But in those sacrifices there is yearly reminder of sins. FOR IT IS IMPOSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND GOATS SHOULD TAKE AWAY SINS. Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU DIDN’T DESIRE, BUT YOU PREPARED A BODY FOR ME; You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin. Then I said, ’Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O Elohim.’" (Hebrews 10:1-7 RNEB)

The body that was prepared was Yahshua, and it was the spirit that dwelled in him as a sanctuary from the time of his purification until his death on the stake.

Elohim had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices after Yahshua’s death and resurrection, they were no longer acceptable, before this time it was acceptable, and it was Elohim’s ordained process for dealing with iniquity. The only process that can atone for our iniquity now is by being purified in the name of Yahshua the anointed.

Elohim dwelled in the anointed, Yahshua.

Immanuel was not the name of the Messiah, but the fulfillment of a work that would be done through the Messiah. Elohim would descend from heaven and dwell in a vessel that had been prepared and chosen by the Most High to reconcile the world to himself, which was done by dwelling in a man, Yahshua, for 3 1/2 years.

You have ascended on high. You have led away captives. You have received gifts among men, yes, among the rebellious also, that YAH ELOHIM MIGHT DWELL THERE. (Psalms 68:18 RNEB)

When the scripture says YAH Elohim will dwell there it’s important we realize it was always an angel sent as an ambassador to represent YAH.

Now Moshe was keeping the flock of Yitro, his father-in-law, the Priest of Midyan, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to Elohim’s mountain, to Chorev. THE ANGEL OF YAH APPEARED TO HIM in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. Moshe said, "I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." When YAH saw that he turned aside to see, Elohim called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, "Moshe! Moshe!" He said, "Here I am." He said, "Don’t come close. TAKE YOUR SANDALS OFF OF YOUR FEET, FOR THE PLACE YOU ARE STANDING ON IS HOLY GROUND." Moreover he said, "I am the Elohim of your father, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob." Moshe hid his face; for he was afraid to look at Elohim. YAH said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. (Exodus 3:1-7 RNEB)

This scripture clearly says it was an angel that appeared to Moshe, however he was speaking in the first person as YAH himself. The Hebrews regarded and agent or ambassador as the same thing as the person being represented actually being present. The agent carried all the authority of the person that they were given the authority to represent.

There are only two times in scripture where man was asked by an angel to remove the shoes from his feet because he was standing on holy ground, this is one and will now look at the other.

It happened, when Yahoshua was by Yericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Yahoshua went to him, and said to him, Are you for us, or for our adversaries? He said, No; but I HAVE COME NOW AS COMMANDER OF YAH’S ARMY. Yahoshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said to him, What says my master to his servant? The prince of YAH’s army said to Yahoshua, PUT OFF YOUR SHOE FROM OFF YOUR FOOT; FOR THE PLACE WHEREON YOU STAND IS HOLY. Yahoshua did so. (Joshua 5:13-15 RNEB)

The angel that represented the Most High in both these incidents must have had great authority given to him because his presence was considered holy.

The question we’re trying to answer is who descended out of heaven and abided in Yahshua’s body at his purification?

Yahshua said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come." The Hebrews therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, ’Where I am going, you can’t come?’" He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world. (John 8:21-23 RNEB)
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day. This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." The Hebrews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down out of heaven." (John 6:38-41 RNEB)

Yahshua came out of the womb of Mariam, and about thirty years later at his purification a spirit came out of heaven and rested on him. The prophecy says that the Messiah would come from the seed of David and YAH shall place his spirit on him.

I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." (John 6:51 RNEB)
Yahshua said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you; even as you gave him authority over all flesh, he will give eternal life to all whom you have given him. This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true Elohim, and him whom you sent, Yahshua the Anointed. I glorified you on the earth. I have accomplished the work which you have given me to do. Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world existed. (John 17:1-5 RNEB)

It’s these verses that lead Christianity to believe in a pre-incarnate Messiah. The question that needs to be asked is who’s speaking, Yahshua, or the Spirit dwelling in Yahshua? Wasn’t it the spirit that was around from the beginning, Yahshua was born of Mariam and didn’t receive the spirit until he was about thirty years old. Before he received the spirit he did no miracles, however after he received the spirit he was like a new man.

"Men of Yisra’el, hear these words! Yahshua of Nazareth, a man approved by Elohim to you by mighty works and wonders and signs WHICH ELOHIM DID by him in the midst of you, even as you yourselves know, (Acts 2:22 RNEB)

The spirit descended out of heaven and took possession of Yahshua’s body and then started doing miracles. The signs and wonders were done by Elohim, not the man, which was the case with every prophet that had the spirit, such as Eliyahu, Elisha, and the apostle Sha’ul.

This continued for two years, so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of Master Yahshua, both Jews and Greeks. ELOHIM WORKED special miracles by the hands of Sha’ul, (Acts 19:10-11 RNEB)

Elohim did the miracles at the hand of Sha’ul.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling; one Master, one faith, one immersion, one Elohim and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all. But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of the Anointed. Therefore he says, "When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men." Now this, "He ascended," what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers; FOR THE PERFECTING OF THE HOLY ONES, TO THE WORK OF SERVING, TO THE BUILDING UP OF THE BODY OF THE ANOINTED; (Ephesians 4:4-12 RNEB)

Elohim gave gifts to men for the perfecting and building up of the body of the anointed.

If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever, (John 14:15-16 RNEB)

The first comforting Counselor was in Yahshua, it was the spirit that came out of heaven at his purification.

the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him, neither knows him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you. (John 14:17-18 RNEB)
BUT THE COUNSELOR, THE HOLY SPIRIT, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you. (John 14:26 RNEB)
"WHEN THE COUNSELOR HAS COME, WHOM I WILL SEND TO YOU FROM THE FATHER, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me. (John 15:26 RNEB)
Our mouth is open to you, Corinthians. Our heart is enlarged. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections. Now in return, I speak as to my children, you also be open wide. Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and lawlessness? Or what communion has light with darkness? What agreement has the Anointed with Beliya`al? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has a temple of Elohim with idols? For we are a temple of the living Elohim. Even as Elohim said, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I WILL BE THEIR ELOHIM, AND THEY WILL BE MY PEOPLE." (2 Corinthians 6:11-16 RNEB)
You have ascended on high. You have led away captives. You have received gifts among men, yes, among the rebellious also, THAT YAH ELOHIM MIGHT DWELL THERE. (Psalms 68:18 RNEB)

The return of the comforter began with Yahshua at his purification, he walked among men for 3 1/2 years showing them the plan of salvation, and ended with the apostles. The last man we see documented in scripture that had the spirit of Elohim was Yochanan who wrote the book of Revelation.

Don’t you know that you are a temple of Elohim, and that Elohim’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys the temple of Elohim, Elohim will destroy him; for Elohim’s temple is holy, which you are. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 RNEB)

We’re holy (set-apart) if we practice the sanctification laws which are given in the first five books of the bible.

Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, WHICH YOU HAVE FROM ELOHIM? You are not your own, (1 Corinthians 6:19 RNEB)
Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in Master Yahshua, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please Elohim, that you abound more and more. For you know what charge we gave you through Master Yahshua. For this is the will of Elohim: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, THAT EACH ONE OF YOU KNOW HOW TO POSSESS HIMSELF OF HIS OWN VESSEL IN SANCTIFICATION AND HONOR, (1 Thessalonians 4:1-4 RNEB)
But Sha’ul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of YAH, went to the High Priest, and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Yerushalayim. As he traveled, it happened that he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him. He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, "Sha’ul, Sha’ul, why do you persecute me?" He said, "Who are you, Master?" and he said, "I am Yahshua, whom you are persecuting. But rise up, and enter into the city, and you will be told what you must do." The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one. Sha’ul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank. Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Chananyah. The Master said to him in a vision, "Chananyah!" He said, "Behold, it’s me, Master." The Master said to him, "Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judah for one named Sha’ul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Chananyah coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight." But Chananyah answered, "Master, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your holy ones at Yerushalayim. Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." But the Master said to him, "Go your way, FOR HE IS MY CHOSEN VESSEL to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Yisra’el. (Acts 9:1-15 RNEB)

Sha’ul was a chosen vessel, the term vessel means container, receptacle; basin, or bowl. Sha’ul was chosen as a man that would be a container to hold something. Not every believer was selected as a chosen vessel, Sha’ul would be given the spirit to bear the Masters name to the gentiles, kings, and the children of Yisrael, and the spirit would do signs and wonders through him.

But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of the Anointed. Therefore he says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE, AND GAVE GIFTS TO MEN." (Ephesians 4:7-8 RNEB)

Men were not able to do the signs and wonders without the spirit of Elohim. The signs and wonders were necessary in this time to show that the doing away of the animal sacrificial system was truly ordained by Elohim, these were people that had been sacrificing animals for 1600 years now being told they no longer had to. Just as Moshe was given signs to show the children of Yisrael he was sent by Elohim to lead them out of Egypt, the early believers were given signs to help bear witness to the sacrifice of Yahshua the anointed.

Now this, "He ascended," what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. (Ephesians 4:9-10 RNEB)

Sha’ul is specifically speaking to the assembly in Ephesus.

He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers; FOR THE EQUIPPING OF THE HOLY ONES, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of the Anointed; (Ephesians 4:11-12 RNEB)

The gifts were given to righteous men that were chosen for the equipping of those walking in righteousness to build them up.

It happened that, while Apollos was at Korint, Sha’ul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and FOUND CERTAIN DISCIPLES. (Acts 19:1 RNEB)

He found certain students within the culture.

He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They said to him, "No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." (Acts 19:2 RNEB)

During this specific period the Most High had to establish his word through Yerushalayim, Judea, Samaria, Asia minor, and the uttermost regions of the world. To do this the spirit was given to help bear witness and accomplish the task in that generation.

He said, "Into what then were you purified?" They said, "Into Yochanan’s immersion." (Acts 19:3 RNEB)

For them to receive gifts of the spirit under the new covenant they had to be purified [immersed] in the name of Yahshua the anointed.

Sha’ul said, "Yochanan indeed purified with the immersion of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Yahshua." When they heard this, they were purified in the name of Master Yahshua. When Sha’ul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages and prophesied. They were about twelve men in all. (Acts 19:4-7 RNEB)

The purpose of receiving these gifts was to spread the news of the new covenant throughout the four corners of the known earth. We are still vessels of the Most High provided we set-apart ourselves according to the laws of sanctification. This does not mean we have a holy spirit, however it does mean we are in a position to be used by the spirit for a specific work if it serves Elohim’s purpose. If we are not sanctified Elohim cannot use us, it’s important we follow his process of purification to be considered not only worthy of service, but also worthy to enter the kingdom.

Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Menachem the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Sha’ul. As they served YAH and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Barnabas and Sha’ul for me, FOR THE WORK TO WHICH I HAVE CALLED THEM." (Acts 13:1-2 RNEB)

Not everyone has been called to an ecclesiastical work.

If anyone therefore purges himself from these, HE WILL BE A VESSEL FOR HONOR, SANCTIFIED, AND SUITABLE FOR THE MASTER’S USE, prepared for every good work. (2 Timothy 2:21 RNEB)

This is the requirement to even be considered as a vessel for honor. We must be sanctified, and fit for the Master’s use.

What’s required of us today?

Now, Yisra’el, WHAT DOES YAH YOUR ELOHIM REQUIRE OF YOU, but to fear YAH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve YAH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul, (Deuteronomy 10:12 RNEB)

We must fear Elohim, which is a learning process, follow in all his ways, love him and serve him with all our mind and being.

Simon Peter, a servant and emissary of Yahshua the Anointed, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our Elohim and Savior, Yahshua the Anointed: Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of Elohim and of Yahshua our Master, seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and obedience, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue; by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust. Yes, AND FOR THIS VERY CAUSE ADDING ON YOUR PART ALL DILIGENCE, IN YOUR FAITH SUPPLY MORAL EXCELLENCE; AND IN MORAL EXCELLENCE, KNOWLEDGE; AND IN KNOWLEDGE, SELF-CONTROL; AND IN SELF-CONTROL PATIENCE; AND IN PATIENCE OBEDIENCE; AND IN OBEDIENCE BROTHERLY AFFECTION; AND IN BROTHERLY AFFECTION, LOVE. For if these things are yours and abound, THEY MAKE YOU TO BE NOT IDLE NOR UNFRUITFUL TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF OUR MASTER YAHSHUA THE ANOINTED. For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Master and Savior, Yahshua the Anointed. Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth. I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you; (2 Peter 1:1-13 RNEB)
Blessed be the Elohim and Father of our Master Yahshua the Anointed, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Yahshua the Anointed from the dead, to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, who by the power of Elohim are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials, that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Yahshua the Anointed-- whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory-- receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of the Anointed, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of the Anointed, and the glories that would follow them. To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into. THEREFORE, PREPARE YOUR MINDS FOR ACTION, BE SOBER AND SET YOUR HOPE FULLY ON THE GRACE THAT WILL BE BROUGHT TO YOU AT THE REVELATION OF YAHSHUA THE ANOINTED-- AS CHILDREN OF OBEDIENCE, NOT CONFORMING YOURSELVES ACCORDING TO YOUR FORMER LUSTS AS IN YOUR IGNORANCE, BUT JUST AS HE WHO CALLED YOU IS HOLY, YOU YOURSELVES ALSO BE HOLY IN ALL OF YOUR BEHAVIOR; BECAUSE IT IS WRITTEN, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY; FOR I AM HOLY." If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foriegners here in reverent fear: knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of the Anointed; who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of times for your sake, who through him are believers in Elohim, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in Elohim. Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently: having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of Elohim, which lives and remains forever. For, "All flesh is like grass, and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls; But YAH’s word endures forever." This is the word of Good News which was preached to you. (1 Peter 1:3-25 RNEB)
Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking, as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that YAH is gracious: (1 Peter 2:1-3 RNEB)

Our responsibility is to walk in the ways of Elohim, love him, and most of all fear him. We learn his ways, the laws, precepts, and ordinances in the first five books of the bible, known as the Torah.

Behold, one came to him and said, "Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" He said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but one, that is, Elohim. BUT IF YOU WANT TO ENTER INTO LIFE, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS." (Matthew 19:16-17 RNEB)

The commandments are detailed in the first five books, they include all the laws that were given to Moshe.

Behold, a certain Torah scholar stood up and tested him, saying, "Rabbi, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "WHAT IS WRITTEN IN THE TORAH? HOW DO YOU READ IT?" (Luke 10:25-26 RNEB)

The response to the scholar was very clear, we must follow what’s written in the law to inherit eternal life.

He answered, "You shall love YAH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27 RNEB)

Every part of our being must be focused on YAH, and we must be diligent to uphold his principles and precepts which are found in the Torah, which are the books of the law.

He said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live." But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Yahshua, "Who is my neighbor?" Yahshua answered, "A certain man was going down from Yerushalayim to Yericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain Priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samariai, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, ’Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’ Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?" He said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Yahshua said to him, "Go and do likewise." (Luke 10:28-37 RNEB)

Loving our neighbor requires us to show love, respect, kindness, and compassion to all the sons and daughters of Adam.

Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looks toward the east. Behold, the glory of the Elohim of Yisra’el came from the way of the east: and his voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shined with his glory. It was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city; and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Kevar; and I fell on my face. The glory of YAH came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east. The Spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of YAH filled the house. I heard one speaking to me out of the house; and a man stood by me. He said to me, Son of man, [this is] the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Yisra’el forever. The house of Yisra’el shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their prostitution, and by the dead bodies of their kings [in] their high places; in their setting of their threshold by my threshold, and their doorpost beside my doorpost, and there was [but] the wall between me and them; and they have defiled my holy name by their abominations which they have committed: therefore I have consumed them in my anger. Now let them put away their prostitution, and the dead bodies of their kings, far from me; and I will dwell in the midst of them forever. You, son of man, show the house to the house of Yisra’el, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure the pattern. If they be ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the form of the house, and the fashion of it, and the exits of it, and the entrances of it, and all the forms of it, and all the ordinances of it, and all the forms of it, and all the laws of it; and write it in their sight; that they may keep the whole form of it, and all the ordinances of it, and do them. This is the law of the house: on the top of the mountain the whole limit of it round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house. (Ezekiel 43:1-12 RNEB)

This is a prophecy referring to the millennial period and what we’re seeing is the Most High is going to take everything back to the way he had it in the beginning. Let’s look at a few more prophecies concerning the latter days.

This is what Isaiah the son of Amotz saw concerning Judah and Yerushalayim. IT SHALL HAPPEN IN THE LATTER DAYS, that the mountain of YAH’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. Many peoples shall go and say, "Come, let’s go up to the mountain of YAH, to the house of the Elohim of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths." For out of Tziyon the law shall go forth, and the word of YAH from Yerushalayim. He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. (Isaiah 2:1-4 RNEB)
But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of YAH’s temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills; and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will go and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of YAH, and to the house of the Elohim of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths." For out of Tziyon will go forth the law, and the word of YAH from Yerushalayim; and he will judge between many peoples, and will decide concerning strong nations afar off. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war any more. But they will sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and no one will make them afraid: For the mouth of YAH of Armies has spoken. Indeed all the nations may walk in the name of their elohims; but we will walk in the name of YAH our Elohim forever and ever. (Micah 4:1-5 RNEB)

Summing up

Immanuel, which means Elohim [god] with us was referring to the spirit of elohim, an angel dwelling in a man. The spirit entered Yahshua the anointed after his purification. Just as the spirit dwelled in the tabernacle in the old testament, he dwelled in a man in the new testament. This man was flesh and blood from the seed of David, he was a prophet and teacher whose ministry did not start until after his purification when the spirit started to use him to serve the Most Highs purpose.
