Purification, Passage by Blood

The purpose of this study is to reveal the truth concerning purification also referred to as baptism in some religious bodies. Our objective will be to see the origin, meaning, and significance of purification and answer the following questions.

  • What is purification?
  • What is the purpose of purification?
  • When was purification first ordained?
  • Who should be purified?
  • What is the process of purification?
  • What are the ordinances of purification?
  • What is the name of Salvation?

In this study we’re going to learn and understand the purpose behind purification and the term Blood Passage. Sadly, with all the erroneous teaching going on today, many do not understand the overall purpose of this process or even believe that it applies to them. Foremost we must realize if YAH said it, we must do it to walk righteously, it does not depend on what we think or feel about the matter. First we need to look at the meanings of “passage” and “purification”.

Passage: The act or process of passing, especially a movement from one place to another as by going by, through, over, or across. The process of passing from one condition or state to another, a transition.

Purification: According to strong’s concordance #2398 the word in Hebrew khat-tawth means, to make a sin offering, to purify from sin, and to purify from uncleanness.

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Yisra’el.” Moshe came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which YAH commanded him. All the people answered together, and said, “All that YAH has spoken we will do.” Moshe reported the words of the people to YAH. YAH said to Moshe, “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moshe told the words of the people to YAH. YAH said to Moshe, “GO TO THE PEOPLE, AND SANCTIFY THEM TODAY AND TOMORROW, AND LET THEM WASH THEIR GARMENTS, AND BE READY AGAINST THE THIRD DAY; for on the third day YAH will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai. (Exodus 19:5-11 RNEB)

As we go through this study, keep in mind “wash” and “three.” YAH gave a commandment to Yisrael to wash themselves because he was going to come down on the mount, and they would present themselves before him. We cannot stand before Elohim in an unclean state, we have to remove anything that would defile or make us unclean. Those today that treat their relationship with the father as if they were just good old friends with no decorum or respect have no relationship with the Father. Scripture is clear as we will see, if we’re unclean, we will not be accepted.

“This is the thing that you shall do to them to make them holy, to minister to me in the Priest’s office: take one young bull and two rams without blemish, unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil: you shall make them of fine wheat flour. You shall put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bull and the two rams. You shall bring Aharon and his sons to the door of the tent of meeting, AND SHALL WASH THEM WITH WATER. (Exodus 29:1-4 RNEB)

Aaron and his sons were given instructions and told to wash in water, this is called the consecration of the priesthood. YAH is establishing his priestly order and part of the consecration process was to take men that had been appointed and anointed and wash them, they had to be cleansed. Don’t forget our definition of purification [khat- tawth], which is to purify from sin, and to purify from uncleanness.

The priests are being washed from their uncleanness. One of the first things we looked at before the consecration of the priests was YAH commanded everyone to be washed. Then he said he was bringing about a priestly order and commanded those chosen to be washed.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, “You shall also make a basin of brass, and the base of it of brass, in which to wash. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. Aharon and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in it. When they go into the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, that they not die; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to YAH. So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they not die: and it shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his descendants throughout their generations.” (Exodus 30:17-21 RNEB)

YAH declared a commandment, he said there must be a basin of brass made that will hold water, and it needed to be set on the outside of the tabernacle. The priests were to use it to wash their hands, because their service was to prepare the offerings of YAH which were holy. He also declared that they must wash their feet because the ground they walked on was holy. They had to be cleansed to do the service YAH had given to them.

The first thing that occurred is YAH commanded all the children of Yisrael, a mixed multitude of people to be washed just to stand before him. Then the people chosen to work in the tabernacle also had to be washed. Lets replace the word washed with the proper Hebrew meaning of the word khat-tawth, so now we have the people that were going to stand before the Most High having to go through a purification ritual. The priests constantly had to go through a purification ritual to perform their service.

YAH spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying, This is the statute of the law which YAH has commanded, saying, Speak to the children of Yisra’el, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, in which is no blemish, [and] on which never came yoke. (Numbers 19:1-2 RNEB)

Red Heifer – A heifer is a cow that has never given birth to a calf, the heifer is not actually red, it’s a deep dark brown.

You shall give her to El`azar the Priest, and he shall bring her forth outside of the camp, and one shall kill her before his face: and El`azar the Priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle her blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times. One shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn: and the Priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. (Numbers 19:3-6 RNEB)

The ingredients for this process were: The Heifer, Cedarwood, Hyssop, and Scarlet.

Then the Priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the Priest shall be unclean until the even. He who burns her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even. A MAN WHO IS CLEAN SHALL GATHER UP THE ASHES OF THE HEIFER, AND LAY THEM UP OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP IN A CLEAN PLACE; AND IT SHALL BE KEPT FOR THE CONGREGATION OF THE CHILDREN OF YISRA’EL FOR A WATER FOR IMPURITY: IT IS A SIN OFFERING. (Numbers 19:7-9 RNEB)

The ashes, scarlet, cedar wood, and hyssop are all immersed in water, and it says it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Yisrael, that’s everyone. The priests role in this process was to prepare it, the process was for a water of separation, a purification for sin. Baptism didn’t start in the new testament, it has been around since the beginning, it’s a purification ritual. The Greeks called it baptism which is derived from the Greek word baptisma. When ever they would take cloth and dip it into dye they would call it baptisma. The reason it’s not used by the Hebrews is it only covers the process of dipping, or submersion, but does not refer to the cleansing, so the ideal word to describe the entire process is purification.

He who gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be to the children of Yisra’el, and to the stranger who lives as a foreigner among them, for a statute forever. HE WHO TOUCHES THE DEAD BODY OF ANY MAN SHALL BE UNCLEAN SEVEN DAYS: THE SAME SHALL PURIFY HIMSELF THEREWITH ON THE THIRD DAY, AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY HE SHALL BE CLEAN: But if he doesn’t purify himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean. (Numbers 19:10-12 RNEB)

Yahshua was resurrected on the third day, we were not commanded to purify people in the name of Yahshua until after his third day resurrection. Consequently, what we find is the purification ritual of the old testament will complement that of the new testament centering around Yahshua. If we partake of the third day cleansing, we will be clean in the seventh day. To partake of Yahshua’s third day cleansing we must be purified in his name, the seventh day prophetically refers to the seventh millennium, the theocratic age. Sha’ul told us to labor to enter that rest and warned us not to be deficient due to a lack of faith. We have a purification ritual centered around Yahshua, we’re told in Galatians 3:24-25 that the sacrificial ordinances were given as a tutor to bring us to Yahshua, this is the reason his death and resurrection fulfilled all the sacrificial and purification ordinances. So, if we don’t partake of the third day cleansing by being purified in the name of Yahshua the anointed, we’re not going to be clean on the seventh day. We’re laboring to enter the theocratic rest, this requires us to be purified and walk righteously.

Whoever touches a dead person, the body of a man who has died, and doesn’t purify himself, defiles the tent of YAH; and that soul shall be cut off from Yisra’el: because the water for impurity was not sprinkled on him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet on him. This is the law when a man dies in a tent: everyone who comes into the tent, and everyone who is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days. (Numbers 19:13-14 RNEB)

If we’re unclean we cannot enter the sanctuary until we are!

Every open vessel, which has no covering bound on it, is unclean. Whoever in the open field touches one who is slain with a sword, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. (Numbers 19:15-16 RNEB)

It’s not a sin to touch a dead person, or be in the facility where a person has died. It is a sin however to be defiled by a dead person and enter into the sanctuary, a place set-apart to the Most High.

For the unclean they shall take of the ashes of the burning of the sin offering; and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel: and a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the tent, and on all the vessels, and on the persons who were there, and on him who touched the bone, or the slain, or the dead, or the grave: and the clean person shall sprinkle on the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify him; and he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even. But the man who shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from the midst of the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of YAH: the water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean. It shall be a perpetual statute to them: and he who sprinkles the water for impurity shall wash his clothes, and he who touches the water for impurity shall be unclean until even. Whatever the unclean person touches shall be unclean; and the soul that touches it shall be unclean until even. (Numbers 19:17-22 RNEB)
Have mercy on me, Elohim, according to your loving kindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, BLOT OUT MY TRANSGRESSIONS. WASH ME THOROUGHLY FROM MY LAWLESSNESS. CLEANSE ME FROM MY SIN. For I know my transgressions. My sin is constantly before me. Against you, and you only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in your sight; that you may be proved right when you speak, and justified when you judge. Behold, I was brought forth in lawlessness. In sin my mother conceived me. Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. PURIFY ME WITH HYSSOP, AND I WILL BE CLEAN. WASH ME, AND I WILL BE WHITER THAN SNOW. (Psalms 51:1-7 RNEB)

It’s clear that there was a purification ritual in the days of old. Yochanan the purifier just didn’t show up bringing in something new, it was only different to use the water without the hyssop, scarlet, and cedar wood.

I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Yisra’el to return, and will build them, as at the first. I will cleanse them from all their lawlessness, by which they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, by which they have sinned against me, and by which they have transgressed against me. (Jeremiah 33:7-8 RNEB)

He said, “I will cleanse them from all their lawlessness”, let’s look at the process:

Yerushalayim, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you? (Jeremiah 4:14 RNEB)
Your way and your doings have procured these things to you; this is your wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reaches to your heart. (Jeremiah 4:18 RNEB)
“’But if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments; and if you shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhors my ordinances, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant; I also will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away; and you will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. (Leviticus 26:14-16 RNEB)
“’IF THEY CONFESS THEIR LAWLESSNESS, and the lawlessness of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary to me, (Leviticus 26:40 RNEB)

Confession just didn’t show up as a new practice in the new testament, it has been around since the beginning.

I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their lawlessness; then I will remember my covenant with Jacob; and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham; and I will remember the land. (Leviticus 26:41-42 RNEB)

There is a cleansing, a washing that needs to take place. Lawlessness is brought about by the flesh, the works caused by lawlessness proceed from the heart. Yahshua told us:

For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. (Matthew 15:19 RNEB)

All these evil things come from within and defile the man. Here we have an appeal from YAH to circumcise or cleanse our heart. Once we change our nature we have to wash, to remove the stench and defilement. The purpose of purification is to wash away lawlessness, however before we do this we have to confess our faults. Anyone that enters into the purification process must understand their accountability, so things like baby immersion, or someone being immersed in behalf of someone else serve no purpose.

Thus says YAH Elohim, No foreigner, UNCIRCUMCISED IN HEART AND UNCIRCUMCISED IN FLESH, SHALL ENTER INTO MY SANCTUARY, of any foreigners who are among the children of Yisra’el. (Ezekiel 44:9 RNEB)

This prophecy pertains to the upcoming theocratic age. If we enter this period without first experiencing death and we’re not circumcised in the flesh, it will be required of us at this time.

Hear the word of YAH, you rulers of Sedom! Listen to the law of our Elohim, you people of `Amorah! “What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?,” says YAH. “I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats. (Isaiah 1:10-11 RNEB)

Why would YAH say this after he commanded Yisrael to do this as part of their sanctification process?

When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? BRING NO MORE VAIN OFFERINGS. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can’t bear with evil assemblies. My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow.” “Come now, and let us reason together,” says YAH: “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of YAH has spoken it.” (Isaiah 1:12-20 RNEB)

YAH did not accept their sacrifices because they were being done with a corrupt heart. They were slaughtering animals, and it was nothing more than murder in the eyes of Elohim because it was a futile attempt to follow his laws. They were doing evil, and being hypocrites by going through the motions just to return to their evil ways. Let’s look at an example:

The man knew Chavah his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Kayin, and said, “I have gotten a man with YAH’s help.” Again she gave birth, to Kayin’s brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Kayin was a tiller of the ground. As time passed, it happened that Kayin brought an offering to YAH from the fruit of the ground. Abel also brought some of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat of it. YAH respected Abel and his offering, (Genesis 4:1-4 RNEB)

Firstlings in Hebrew denoted the best of, Kayin did not bring the best of his crop.

but he didn’t respect Kayin and his offering. Kayin was very angry, and the expression on his face fell. YAH said to Kayin, “Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen? IF YOU DO WELL, WILL IT NOT BE LIFTED UP? If you don’t do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.” (Genesis 4:5-7 RNEB)

Kayin’s offering was not accepted, in this time if you offered a sacrifice to YAH he would send down a ball of fire and consume it, if it was not accepted nothing would happen. Though this is not documented here, we can look at other examples in scripture to show this is what would occur (Genesis 15:9-11,17, Leviticus 9:18-24, 2Chronicles 7:1, Judges 6:19-21, 1Chronicles 21:18-26). Scripture said “if you have done well”, this would give the impression that Kayin was not a person who did well.

Kayin said to Abel, his brother, “Let’s go into the field.” It happened when they were in the field, that Kayin rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him. YAH said to Kayin, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He said, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:8-9 RNEB)

Remember, Yahshua said what proceeds forth from the heart, evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony… YAH did not accept Kayin because he had a polluted heart, when he was asked where his brother was he said he didn’t know, he was a liar, then he said am I my brothers keeper, which is insolence. This is the same heart Yisrael had when YAH refused to accept their sacrifice.

Shemu’el said, Has YAH as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of YAH? Behold, TO OBEY IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE, and to listen than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22 RNEB)

Another trait Yisrael was displaying when YAH would not receive their sacrifice was disobedience. Sacrifices, confession, and purification are meaningless, unless we’re walking in obedience to the laws and commandments of YAH.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and wickedness. Because you have rejected the word of YAH, he has also rejected you from being king. (1 Samuel 15:23 RNEB)

YAH has always rejected anyone that was not willing to be obedient to his laws, precepts, and statutes. We have seen this with Kayin, Yisrael, and King Sha’ul to name a few. The process has always been and still is obedience first, then sacrifice. YAH does not hear sinners, people with a sin nature, and that is what YAH’s issue was with Yisrael, they had developed and cultivated a sin nature then foolishly thought that sacrifice without obedience would be acceptable.

For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my ordinances, and do them. (Ezekiel 36:24-27 RNEB)

Throughout all the books of the prophets, YAH is speaking about a process of cleansing, because we cannot stand before him unclean.

She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, “Call her name Lo-Ruhamah; for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Yisra’el, that I should in any way pardon them. (Hosea 1:6 RNEB)

About sixty years after this prophecy was given it was fulfilled, YAH carried away the northern tribes of Yisrael under the hands of Shalmanezer in 721 BC.

But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by YAH their Elohim, and will not save them by bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen.” (Hosea 1:7 RNEB)

He’s going to have mercy on Judah the southern tribe, and it won’t be through battle, so how is he going to save them?

Who has believed our message? and to whom has the arm of YAH been revealed? For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised, and rejected by men; a man of suffering, and acquainted with disease: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we didn’t respect him. Surely he has borne our sickness, and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by Elohim, and afflicted. But HE WAS PIERCED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:1-5 RNEB)

Isaiah is prophesying about Yahshua, and explaining what the process will be.

All we like sheep have gone astray; everyone has turned to his own way; and YAH has laid on him the lawlessness of us all. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he didn’t open his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is mute, so he didn’t open his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the disobedience of my people to whom the stroke [was due]? They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased YAH to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of YAH shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:6-12 RNEB)

Hosea prophesied that Yisrael was going to be divorced, and they would be removed from the land. The northern tribes were already completely removed and scattered, not even one person was left. The southern tribe, which is Judah was given a process to be saved. When Yahshua commissioned the apostles he gave them specific instructions to deliver salvation to Yisrael in a specific way, start at Jerusalem, then Judah, Samaria, and finally the outer most regions of the world. The word of salvation went to Judah first because they are the sons of the covenant.

Behold, the days come, says YAH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Yisra’el, and with the house of Judah: (Jeremiah 31:31 RNEB)

The new covenant was made with the house of Yisrael and Judah, there is nothing said about a brand new sect known as Christians. To partake of the covenant we must be engrafted into Yisrael, there is no other way to find salvation.

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, says YAH. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Yisra’el after those days, says YAH: I WILL PUT MY LAW IN THEIR INWARD PARTS, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people: (Jeremiah 31:32-33 RNEB)

How can so many say the law has passed away, when the new covenant is still talking about the law? The reason YAH rejected the sacrifices of Yisrael is because they were being disobedient to the law. Now YAH is creating a process where the law will be written in our heart and mind, not a new law, the same law. There’s something that he’s going to create and do that’s going to instill or impute his law in our heart and mind. The process should be very clear if you understand the new covenant.

Through prophecy Jeremiah introduces us to the new covenant, it’s not found in the new testament, it’s reiterated in the new testament, specifically in Hebrews the tenth chapter.

The Coming of Yochanan

“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your Elohim. “Speak comfortably to Yerushalayim; and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her lawlessness is pardoned, that she has received of YAH’s hand double for all her sins.” THE VOICE OF ONE WHO CALLS OUT, “PREPARE THE WAY OF YAH IN THE WILDERNESS! MAKE A LEVEL HIGHWAY IN THE DESERT FOR OUR ELOHIM. (Isaiah 40:1-3 RNEB)

We’re seeing Yochanan the purifier introduced, better known as John the baptist.

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and YAH, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!” says YAH of Armies. (Malachi 3:1 RNEB)

This is speaking about Yochanan the immerser again, he’s the messenger being sent to prepare the way for the anointed.

“Remember the Torah of Moshe my servant, which I commanded to him in Chorev for all Yisra’el, even statutes and ordinances. Behold, I WILL SEND YOU ELIYAHU THE PROPHET BEFORE THE GREAT AND TERRIBLE DAY OF YAH COMES. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” (Malachi 4:4-6 RNEB)
It happened that when Yahshua had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities. Now when Yochanan heard in the prison the works of the Anointed, he sent two of his disciples and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?” Yahshua answered them, “Go and tell Yochanan the things which you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.” As these went their way, Yahshua began to say to the multitudes concerning Yochanan, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in king’s houses. But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet. For this is he, of whom it is written, ’Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than Yochanan the immerser; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he. From the days of Yochanan the immerser until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and violent men are trying to take it by force. For all the Prophets and the Torah prophesied until Yochanan. If you are willing to receive it, this is Eliyahu, who is to come. (Matthew 11:1-14 RNEB)
You will have joy and gladness; and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of YAH, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. He will turn many of the children of Yisra’el to YAH, their Elohim. HE WILL GO BEFORE HIM IN THE SPIRIT AND POWER OF ELIYAHU, ’TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS TO THE CHILDREN,’ AND THE DISOBEDIENT TO THE WISDOM OF THE JUST; TO MAKE READY A PEOPLE PREPARED FOR YAH.” (Luke 1:14-17 RNEB)

Eliyahu parted the waters and raised the dead, Yochanan didn’t do any of these things. However, Eliyahu stood up to kings and so did Yochanan, Eliyahu had a charge and did not deviate, Yochanan had a charge and did not deviate from the course. We’re talking about the spirit of Eliyahu, which is seen in the nature, discipline, commitment, and loyalty, Yochanan exhibited.

After these things, Yahshua came with his disciples into the land of Judah. He stayed there with them, and purified. (John 3:22 RNEB)

Yahshua and all his disciples were purified, they also purified others. Some would say your baptized by the word, however that’s not what we see in scripture, the process includes the physical act of being immersed in water for purification.

Yochanan also was immersing in Einayim near Shalem, because there was much water there. They came, and were purified. (John 3:23 RNEB)

Yochanan specifically looked for a location with ample water, because purification required full water immersion.

For Yochanan was not yet thrown into prison. There arose therefore a questioning on the part of Yochanan’s disciples with some Hebrews about purification. (John 3:24-25 RNEB)

Purification is a cleansing in water, we see it called properly here in this verse, baptism just means to immerse or dip, it does not properly represent what this act was meant to accomplish. Many different analogies have been used in “the Church” to try to explain what this represents, however it’s meaning and purpose has never been changed from the beginning.

He commanded the chariot to stand still, and THEY BOTH WENT DOWN INTO THE WATER, BOTH PHILIP AND THE EUNUCH, AND HE PURIFIED HIM. (Acts 8:37-38 RNEB)
He showed me Yahoshua the High Priest standing before the angel of YAH, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary. YAH said to Satan, “YAH rebuke you, Satan! Yes, YAH who has chosen Yerushalayim rebuke you! Isn’t this a burning stick plucked out of the fire?” Now Yahoshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. He answered and spoke to those who stood before him, saying, “Take the filthy garments off of him.” To him he said, “Behold, I have caused your lawlessness to pass from you, and I will clothe you with rich clothing.” I said, “Let them set a clean turban on his head.” So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him; and the angel of YAH was standing by. The angel of YAH protested to Yahoshua, saying, “Thus says YAH of Armies: ’If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my charge, then you also shall judge my house, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you a place of access among these who stand by. Hear now, Yahoshua the High Priest, you and your fellows who sit before you; for they are men who are a sign: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant, the Branch. (Zechariah 3:1-8 RNEB)

The servant, the branch is Yahshua, who is the offspring of David. We have dealt with all the prophesies concerning the coming of Yochanan to prepare the way. He came under the Levitical order, Yochanan’s father was a priest, a Levite whose office was to burn incense. Remember what we covered in the old covenant, according to the law the purification process had to be prepared by a priest (Levite). So, when we have Yochanan the purifier coming on the scene we’re continuing within that structure, he is introducing the process of receiving eternal life, preparing the way for Yahshua.

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judah, A CERTAIN PRIEST NAMED ZEKHARYAH, OF THE PRIESTLY DIVISION OF AVIYAH. HE HAD A WIFE OF THE DAUGHTERS OF AHARON, AND HER NAME WAS ELISHEVA. THEY WERE BOTH RIGHTEOUS BEFORE ELOHIM, WALKING BLAMELESSLY IN ALL THE COMMANDMENTS AND ORDINANCES OF YAH. But they had no child, because Elisheva was barren, and they both were well advanced in years. Now it happened, while he executed the Priest’s office before Elohim in the order of his division, according to the custom of the Priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of YAH and burn incense. (Luke 1:5-9 RNEB)

These were Yochanan’s parents, and this is our verification that he’s from the priestly order, walking in his office under the covenant. YAH has an entire infrastructure established within the Torah, and he brings everything into the so called new testament, which is just a shadowing of the processes that he had ordained earlier. Nothing really changes, he made some adjustments in the sacrificial system, however he also gave us plenty of detail through the prophets of how this would occur and how things would change. I stress the term change, because the basic structure has not been eliminated. A man brought us into sin, and it took another man to redeem us from it, we were told this in the beginning (Gen 3:15), and many of the prophets expounded further until we see the new covenant detailed in Jeremiah 31.

The Coming of Yahshua

Having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, you highly favored one! YAH is with you. Blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered what kind of salutation this might be. The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Miriam, for you have found favor with Elohim. Behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and will call his name ’Yahshua.’ (Luke 1:28-31 RNEB)

His name is Yahshua, not Jesus.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High. YAH Elohim will give him the throne of his father, David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. There will be no end to his Kingdom.” (Luke 1:32-33 RNEB)

We need to understand his name, all names have meanings, and YAH always named his deliverers in accordance with their character and mandate. In the scripture you can usually find the meaning of the persons name within the same verse, either before, or after it has been given for the first time.

She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Yahshua, for it is he who shall SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS.” (Matthew 1:21 RNEB)

Shua – means salvation or save. If we compare this to the word salvation in Greek, which is “soteria”, or in Latin “salvara” neither of these are part of the composition of the name of Jesus. The name is not Jesoter or Jesalvar, but Jesus, we know the suffix is “sous” or “zeus” a derivative ending of many Greek names used to give honor to their gods. A common practice in ancient times was to name their children after the deities they worshiped which gave honor to the god they served. Yah-Shua Means YAH is salvation or YAH saves, the same cannot be said for the name Jesus.

The next day, he saw Yahshua coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of Elohim, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29 RNEB)

How does Yahshua take away the sin of the world?

This is he of whom I said, ’AFTER ME COMES A MAN WHO IS PREFERRED BEFORE ME, for he was before me.’ (John 1:30 RNEB)
I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came immersing in water: THAT HE WOULD BE REVEALED TO YISRA’EL.” (John 1:31 RNEB)

Yahshua was coming to be manifested to Yisrael, not the whole world.

For Elohim so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16 RNEB)

Yahshua came to Yisrael, and Yisrael was responsible to take his message to the world.

  • Who was supposed to be saved first? Judah
  • Where was the apostles ministry supposed to start first? Jerusalem, Judea, then Samaria.
  • What did Yahshua say to the gentile when she asks for some special gifts and instructions? I’m sent to the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael.
  • What did Yahshua say to the woman of the well? You don’t know who you worship, salvation is through Judah.

Salvation comes through Yisrael, we must be engrafted in, Yahshua came to cleanse Yisrael to make sure she was able to stand before the Most High to complete the process that had been established by the patriarchs.

The High Priest therefore asked Yahshua about his disciples, and about his teaching. Yahshua answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I ALWAYS TAUGHT IN SYNAGOGUES, AND IN THE TEMPLE, WHERE THE HEBREWS ALWAYS MEET. I said nothing in secret. (John 18:19-20 RNEB)

Yahshua said he spake openly to the world, however he then elaborates, and we find he taught in the synagogue, the temple, and wherever Hebrews dwelled. He apparently did not speak to the world, he specifically spoke to Yisrael.

About the ninth hour Yahshua cried with a loud voice, saying, “`Eli, `Eli, lima shavakhtani?” That is, “My Elohim, my Elohim, why have you forsaken me?” Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, “This man is calling Eliyahu.” Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink. The rest said, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Eliyahu comes to save him.” Yahshua cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit. Behold, THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS TORN IN TWO FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. (Matthew 27:46-51 RNEB)

The veil was torn, opening the way to the holy of holies.

From that time, Yahshua began to show his disciples that he must go to Yerushalayim and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, AND BE KILLED, AND THE THIRD DAY BE RAISED UP. (Matthew 16:21 RNEB)

Remember the third day, it was emphasized at the beginning of the study.

Elohim raised him up the third day, and gave him to be revealed, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by Elohim, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. (Acts 10:40-41 RNEB)
But Elohim commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, the Anointed died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from Elohim’s wrath through him. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to Elohim through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life. Not only so, but we also rejoice in Elohim through our Master Yahshua the Anointed, THROUGH WHOM WE HAVE NOW RECEIVED THE RECONCILIATION. (Romans 5:8-11 RNEB)
Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump? Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed the Anointed, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place. (1 Corinthians 5:6-7 RNEB)

Yahshua is a part of the ceremonial ordinances, the atonement, Yom Kippur, which is the day YAH releases us from all our iniquity for the previous year. Each year we are given an opportunity to completely cleanse ourselves of all transgressions that occurred during the year, just as the nation of Yisrael was cleansed on this same day. In order for the Atonement to work we need a sacrifice, a priest, and mediator to present it. Yahshua fulfilled the parts of mediator, priest, and sacrifice. This is why Yochanan (John) said to behold the lamb of Elohim that takes away the sins of the world. If we have not partaken in this sacrifice by being purified in the name of Yahshua the anointed then the day of Atonement is just another day.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nakdimon, a ruler of the Hebrews. The same came to him by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from Elohim, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless Elohim is with him.” Yahshua answered him, “MOST CERTAINLY, I TELL YOU, UNLESS ONE IS BORN ANEW, HE CAN’T SEE THE KINGDOM OF ELOHIM.” (John 3:1-3 RNEB)

Remember the scripture in Numbers that says, if you are not cleansed on the third day you wont be clean on the seventh day, referring prophetically to the millennium. To be born anew we must be judged righteously by the works of our hands during this life, then at Yahshua’s return we will be resurrected, born again.

Nakdimon said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” Yahshua answered, “Most certainly I tell you, UNLESS ONE IS BORN OF WATER AND SPIRIT, HE CAN’T ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF ELOHIM! (John 3:4-5 RNEB)

To be born of water refers to purification, we must be washed by water, this is the first step in the salvation process.

Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter INTO THE HOLY PLACE BY THE BLOOD OF YAHSHUA, (Hebrews 10:19 RNEB)

The holy place was revealed when the veil was torn at Yahshua’s death, we can now enter by the blood of Yahshua through purification.

by the way which he dedicated for us, A NEW AND LIVING WAY, THROUGH THE VEIL, THAT IS TO SAY, HIS FLESH; and having a great Priest over the house of Elohim, let’s DRAW NEAR WITH A TRUE HEART in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having OUR BODY WASHED WITH PURE WATER, (Hebrews 10:20-22 RNEB)

Yahshua fulfilled the purification rights, and the Sacrificial, Priestly, Levitical, and Temple ordinances. We partake in the purification rights process that YAH gave after he established the tabernacle by being purified in the name of Yahshua the anointed, cleansing our conscience first. Sha’ul said in the book of Ephesians, be washed and convicted by the word first, then be purified.

“Let all the house of Yisra’el therefore know certainly that Elohim has made him both Master and the Anointed, this Yahshua whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter said to them, “REPENT, AND BE PURIFIED, EVERY ONE OF YOU, IN THE NAME OF YAHSHUA THE ANOINTED FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:36-38 RNEB)
But the things which Elohim announced by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Anointed should suffer, he thus fulfilled. “REPENT THEREFORE, AND TURN AGAIN, THAT YOUR SINS MAY BE BLOTTED OUT, SO THAT THERE MAY COME TIMES OF REFRESHING FROM THE PRESENCE OF YAH, (Acts 3:18-19 RNEB)

Repent – means to confess and acknowledge a wrong doing and to change the course.

If we are no longer under law as many would say, what would be the need for repentance? Repentance is part of the process to conversion, however if someone does not recognize and know the law, how could they confess their sins to have them blotted out?

We will not be able to stand in the presence of the Most High in iniquity [lawlessness], this is the reason he gave us Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement. Although we were cleansed at our purification, and we receive a clean slate, it does not release us from any new sins we may commit, so we have a day of release, because we cannot serve YAH if were unclean or defiled. Since we no longer have a sacrifice for sin after our purification, we need to think long and hard before committing an act of iniquity. If we enter into this process sincerly we understand the importance of learning, understanding, and applying the laws of Elohim in our lives. This is how YAH will write his laws in our heart and mind, our conscience will help us stand steadfast as we continue to apply what we have learned. The continual application of the laws of Elohim to our lives will change our character and become habitual in application.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word. They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the nations. For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying Elohim. Then Peter answered, “CAN ANY MAN FORBID THE WATER, THAT THESE WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT AS WELL AS WE SHOULD NOT BE PURIFIED?” He commanded them to be purified in the name of Yahshua the Anointed. Then they asked him to stay some days. (Acts 10:44-48 RNEB)
But about midnight Sha’ul and Sila were praying and singing hymns to Elohim, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened. The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Sha’ul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!” He called for lights and sprang in, and, fell down trembling before Sha’ul and Sila, and brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They said, “Believe in Master Yahshua the Anointed, and you will be saved, you and your household.” They spoke the word of YAH to him, and to all who were in his house. He took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes, AND WAS IMMEDIATELY PURIFIED, HE AND ALL HIS HOUSEHOLD. (Acts 16:25-33 RNEB)
It happened that, as I made my journey, and came close to Damascus, about noon, suddenly there shone from the sky a great light around me. I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, ’Sha’ul, Sha’ul, why are you persecuting me?’ (Acts 22:6-7 RNEB)
When I couldn’t see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus. ONE CHANANYAH, A DEVOUT MAN ACCORDING TO THE TORAH, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus, (Acts 22:11-12 RNEB)

Chananyah was a new covenant Hebrew, a devout man according to the law. The only way to tell if someone is righteous and devout is by measuring them by the law [Torah].

came to me, and standing by me said to me, ’Brother Sha’ul, receive your sight!’ In that very hour I looked up at him. He said, ’The Elohim of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth. For you will be a witness for him to all men of what you have seen and heard. Now why do you wait? ARISE, BE PURIFIED, AND WASH AWAY YOUR SINS, CALLING ON THE NAME OF YAH.’ (Acts 22:13-16 RNEB)

All these individuals we read about have been purified, notice what has been said, “How can I be saved”, “What must we do”, and “What is the process”.

But an angel of YAH spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Yerushalayim to `Aza. This is a desert.” He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Kush, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Kushim, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Yerushalayim to worship. He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. The Spirit said to Philip, “Go near, and join yourself to this chariot.” Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” He said, “How can I, unless someone explains it to me?” He begged Philip to come up and sit with him. Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, so he doesn’t open his mouth. In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth.” The eunuch answered Philip, “Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?” Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Yahshua. As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being purified?” He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, BOTH PHILIP AND THE EUNUCH, AND HE PURIFIED HIM. (Acts 8:26-38 RNEB)

It’s important we follow the specific instructions we have been given by YAH.

When he had greeted them, he reported one by one the things which Elohim had worked among the Gentiles through his ministry. They, when they heard it, glorified Elohim. They said to him, “You see, brother, HOW MANY THOUSANDS THERE ARE AMONG THE HEBREWS OF THOSE WHO HAVE BELIEVED, AND THEY ARE ALL ZEALOUS FOR THE TORAH. (Acts 21:19-20 RNEB)

James the overseer of the assembly in Yerushalayim stated, “You see, how many thousands there are among the Hebrews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law”. The process of salvation requires two steps: The keeping of the law and having faith in Yahshua, which requires that we acknowledge him as the propitiation offering for our iniquity through his sacrifice and enter the covenant through water purification. If we do this, then we will have the opportunity to receive eternal life.

Remind them to be in subjection to rulers and to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all humility toward all men. For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But when the kindness of Elohim our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, THROUGH THE MIKVAH [WASHING] OF REBIRTH and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly, through Yahshua the Anointed our Savior; that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This saying is faithful, and concerning these things I desire that you affirm confidently, so that those who have believed Elohim may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men; (Titus 3:1-8 RNEB)
Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of Elohim? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of Elohim. Such were some of you, BUT YOU WERE WASHED. BUT YOU WERE SANCTIFIED. BUT YOU WERE JUSTIFIED IN THE NAME OF THE MASTER YAHSHUA, AND IN THE SPIRIT OF OUR ELOHIM. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 RNEB)
Because the Anointed also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to Elohim; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison, who before were disobedient, when Elohim waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ark was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, WERE SAVED THROUGH WATER. THIS IS A SYMBOL OF IMMERSION, WHICH NOW SAVES YOU–not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Elohim, through the resurrection of Yahshua the Anointed, (1 Peter 3:18-21 RNEB)

Peter is urging people to be purified, washed by water, or they cannot be saved. Receiving purification does not make us perfect or holier than the next person, it simply says we acknowledge the process of receiving eternal life, and understand we need to be obedient to the will of YAH, so we may have an opportunity to receive eternal life. We have a covering just as the Hebrews in the wilderness did through the sacrificial ordinances. Then as now, if we are not obedient to the laws and ordinances of YAH we will suffer death, just as many of them did.

be it known to you all, and to all the people of Yisra’el, that in the name of Yahshua the Anointed of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom Elohim raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole. He is ’the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.’ THERE IS SALVATION IN NONE OTHER, FOR NEITHER IS THERE ANY OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN, THAT IS GIVEN AMONG MEN, BY WHICH WE MUST BE SAVED!” (Acts 4:10-12 RNEB)

There is no salvation in any other, these were Hebrew Yisraelites that lived in Yisrael, most of which were zealots. Yahshua was a fundamentalist, he cared for and loved the culture of the fathers. Most of these Hebrews had a strong dislike for the Greeks and the Grecian culture, even to the Hellenists that adopted the culture, Yahshua himself called them lost. So, to think someone in the Hebraic culture is going to come up with the name Jesus, which is a Greco Roman Latin name makes absolutely no sense. Everyone around him, including his cousin Yochanan had Hebrew names. Consequently, if your not purified in the name of Yahshua the anointed, then you have missed the mark and are outside the process.

But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by YAH their Elohim, and will not save them by bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen.” (Hosea 1:7 RNEB)

Saved in Hebrew is the word “Yasha”, it means to be saved, liberated, and delivered. We have the root of Yahshua’s name here in this prophecy. YAH is saying I’m going to save you by Yahshua. This is why the angel Gavriel said, “you shall name him Yahshua, for he shall save his people”.

For I am YAH your Elohim, the Holy One of Yisra’el, your Savior [Yasha]. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Kush and Seva in your place. (Isaiah 43:3 RNEB)
I myself am YAH; and besides me there is no savior [Yasha]. (Isaiah 43:11 RNEB)
