The Mind Heart Connection II

The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the manifestation of the Spirit specifically focusing on one aspect of its multiple meanings. Many Theologians, Hebrews, and Christians alike teach on topics driven by unique cultural words which may have several meanings and connotations. It’s important to understand that a single word can have multiple meanings, and is a rule in most languages, including Hebrew, therefore we need to be careful to take this into consideration when studying the scripture. Sadly, Christian and Hebraic bodies examination of New Testament studies are often in error, frequently injecting felicitous slants and obscure words because they lack the understanding of how a word with multiple meanings is used and the message the author intended. Therefore, we will be addressing the following questions among others.

  • What is the heart?
  • What is the conscience?
  • What prompts an emotion?
  • What part does the mind play?
  • What is a willing mind?
  • How do obtain a perfect and complete state of mind?
  • Who are the wicked?
  • How does the law help us walk in righteousness?
  • How will we be judged?

We will continue to isolate one manifestation of the Spirit and use it in context to understand the meaning the author was trying to convey. We will also examine what scripture says about obtaining a perfect or complete state of mind which speaks to stability, peace, comfort, assurance, security, and wellness.

Previously, we went over a number of scriptures dealing with meditating on the word of Elohim, which is what we should be focusing on and thinking about during the day. If we’re thinking about spiritual things throughout the day it makes it difficult to think about carnal matters. Carnality represents the flesh, spirituality represents Elohim’s code of ethics, which gives and sustains life. To personify his word and demonstrate it daily we must fully embrace it.

The reason we’re told to spend so much time focusing on Elohim’s law and to have it occupy our mind is because everything we do and say all begins with the mind. Things we hear or see are taken into the mind where they create an emotion, some type of feeling, and once the feeling has been conceived based on what we think, then we begin to respond or react, in other words we produce a work. The works that are produced can lead to eternal life or death, sadly most of the works produced lead to death. This can be avoided by changing our focus from carnal matters to spiritual truth, the word of Elohim.

By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went. By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise. FOR HE LOOKED FOR THE CITY WHICH HAS THE FOUNDATIONS, WHOSE BUILDER AND MAKER IS ELOHIM. By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she COUNTED HIM FAITHFUL WHO HAD PROMISED. (Hebrews 11:8-11 RNEB)

This was in Abraham and Sarah’s mind, they knew, and they were faithful because they had knowledge of this great power.

If we don’t have faith in YAH, we won’t do the things we’re supposed to. The reason we lack faith is because we don’t have true knowledge of him. The reason we lack true knowledge of him is because we have not studied his code of ethics. If we would study his code of ethics we would find ourselves becoming one with YAH, which will precipitate the building of our faith, giving us full assurance of the faith. We our going to have to be clean before we can receive eternal life, the cleansing comes by the word of Elohim, this requires that our minds be prepared, which is where many fall short because their thoughts are more focused on carnality than the laws and precepts of Elohim.

Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead. These all died in faith, NOT HAVING RECEIVED THE PROMISES, BUT HAVING SEEN THEM AND EMBRACED THEM FROM AFAR, AND HAVING CONFESSED THAT THEY WERE STRANGERS AND PILGRIMS ON THE EARTH. (Hebrews 11:12-13 RNEB)

If our mind is carnal will subject ourselves to various elements of society and conform to their influences. Our behavior and attitude will waver because we’re going to allow people to define who we are, however If we have full assurance of our faith in Elohim, we can become who he says we are and should be. Which will make us children of the covenant, an elohim in this system with power and authority. We need to stop living for the world and the people in it and follow the laws and precepts of YAH. We should look at ourselves as strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return. BUT NOW THEY DESIRE A BETTER COUNTRY, THAT IS, A HEAVENLY ONE. THEREFORE ELOHIM IS NOT ASHAMED OF THEM, TO BE CALLED THEIR ELOHIM, FOR HE HAS PREPARED A CITY FOR THEM. (Hebrews 11:14-16 RNEB)

We are laboring to enter YAH’s theocratic system, this is the reason why Sha’ul admonished us saying, “Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience,” he was talking about the millennial reign of the anointed when the world will be governed as a theocracy under righteous precepts.

The Frailty of The Mind

The word of YAH came to me, saying, Son of man, set your face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshekh, and Tuval, and prophesy against him, and say, Thus says YAH Elohim: Behold, I am against you, Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshekh, and Tuval: and I will turn you about, and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you forth, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords; Paras, Kush, and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer, and all his hordes; the house of Togarmah in the uttermost parts of the north, and all his hordes; even many peoples with you. (Ezekiel 38:1-6 RNEB)

This is a prophecy about the war of the last days.

Be prepared, yes, prepare yourself, you, and all your companies who are assembled to you, and be a guard to them. After many days you shall be visited: in the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, on the mountains of Yisra’el, which have been a continual waste; but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they shall dwell securely, all of them. You shall ascend, you shall come like a storm, you shall be like a cloud to cover the land, you, and all your hordes, and many peoples with you. Thus says YAH Elohim: It shall happen in that day, THAT THINGS SHALL COME INTO YOUR MIND, AND YOU SHALL DEVISE AN EVIL DEVICE: and you shall say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to those who are at rest, who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates; (Ezekiel 38:7-11 RNEB)

When this day comes something will come into the peoples mind, and they will devise a sinister scheme to go against Yerushalayim at the end of the thousand year reign of the anointed.

And after the thousand years, SATAN WILL BE RELEASED FROM HIS PRISON, AND HE WILL COME OUT TO DECEIVE THE NATIONS WHICH ARE IN THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. They went up over the breadth of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the holy ones, and the beloved city. Fire came down out of heaven from Elohim, and devoured them. (Revelation 20:7-9 RNEB)

The sons of Yehphat and many of the other nations are going to surround the city of Yerushalayim toward the end of the millennial reign. Ezekiel 38:10 says, “Thus says YAH Elohim: It shall happen in that day, that things shall come into your mind, and you shall devise an evil device”. We can see this played out in Revelation chapter twenty. These people received and accepted a thought that was evil, which created an emotion and conceived a work.

WHERE DO WARS AND FIGHTINGS AMONG YOU COME FROM? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members? You lust, and don’t have. You kill, covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask. YOU ASK, AND DON’T RECEIVE, BECAUSE YOU ASK WITH WRONG MOTIVES, SO THAT YOU MAY SPEND IT FOR YOUR PLEASURES. (James 4:1-3 RNEB)

These are the reasons we don’t receive from Elohim.

  1. We don’t ask?
  2. We ask, but have wrong motives based on our lusts.

If we ask with wrong motives it’s because we don’t understand the laws and precepts of YAH. This can give the adversary an opportunity to step in and manipulate circumstances using our own desires to make us think were being blessed. The adversary would never be able to misdirect us if we have a clear understanding of YAH’s laws and code of ethics.

You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WORLD IS ENMITY WITH ELOHIM? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim. (James 4:4 RNEB)

Friendship with the world makes us adulterers and enemies of YAH. We become friends with the world by desiring to do what they are doing and living by their ideals and standards instead of YAH’s.

Remember it says, “He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9) If our minds are not focused on the laws and precepts of YAH, it’s impossible for us to walk in a relationship with YAH.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “THE SPIRIT WHO LIVES IN US YEARNS JEALOUSLY”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “ELOHIM RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.” (James 4:5-6 RNEB)

The “more grace” being discussed here is the grace of time, mercy, and kindness. Things that we have today, but may not have deserved, however because we desire to practice righteousness, persevered through obstacles, and have been humble to confess and repent, YAH extends his grace. This can be compared to the parable of the vine dresser, where time is given to bare fruit before forsaking the crop. The grace we’re extended will vary with our level of maturity and our desire to walk in righteousness.

Be subject therefore to Elohim. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 RNEB)

If we subject ourselves to Elohim there is no reason that the adversary would stay.

Draw near to Elohim, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of YAH, and he will exalt you. (James 4:8-10 RNEB)

If we turn to Elohim he will turn to us. To do this, we must purify our mind and emotions by meditating on the laws and precepts of YAH and giving him first place.

Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which YAH Elohim had made. He said to the woman, “Has Elohim really said, ’You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?’” The woman said to the serpent, “Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, Elohim has said, ’YOU SHALL NOT EAT OF IT, NEITHER SHALL YOU TOUCH IT, LEST YOU DIE.’” THE SERPENT SAID TO THE WOMAN, “YOU WON’T SURELY DIE, (Genesis 3:1-4 RNEB)

This type of word manipulation is one of the things we have to watch for in theology, the serpent presented a teaching that was the exact opposite of what YAH had commanded, if we see an antithetical theology we’re dealing with the doctrine of the adversary.

for Elohim knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like Elohim, knowing good and evil.” WHEN THE WOMAN SAW THAT THE TREE WAS GOOD FOR FOOD, AND THAT IT WAS A DELIGHT TO THE EYES, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit of it, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate. (Genesis 3:5-6 RNEB)

The woman was told that she would be like Elohim by eating the fruit, which obviously enticed her because she immediately saw the tree was good for food, it’s not like she hadn’t seen the tree before. This time it delighted her eyes, this is the desire her emotions generated when she accepted what the serpent said about the tree. We can’t be tempted until a desire is conceived. These are the same types of temptations Yahshua was faced with in the desert. The lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life.

The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. They heard the voice of YAH Elohim walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of YAH Elohim among the trees of the garden. YAH Elohim called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Elohim said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” The man said, “THE WOMAN WHOM YOU GAVE TO BE WITH ME, SHE GAVE ME OF THE TREE, AND I ATE.” YAH ELOHIM SAID TO THE WOMAN, “WHAT IS THIS YOU HAVE DONE?” THE WOMAN SAID, “THE SERPENT DECEIVED ME, AND I ATE.” (Genesis 3:7-13 RNEB)

When Adam was called to accountability he immediately blamed the woman rather than assuming responsibility for himself. When the woman was asked, she did the same thing by blaming the serpent. Neither one was willing to take responsibility for their own actions, this is very common. The scripture starts in Genesis with a commandment being broken and ends in the book of revelation with “blessed are they that do his commandments that they may have right to the tree of life.” Disobedience started the journey to redemption and ultimately to assembling a body of obedient people, which is what YAH wanted from the beginning.

YAH Elohim said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. On your belly shall you go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.” To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bring forth children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, ’You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:14-19 RNEB)
For Adam was first formed, then Chavah. Adam wasn’t deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience; (1 Timothy 2:13-14 RNEB)
You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, THE SPIRIT [MIND SET] WHO NOW WORKS IN THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE; among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, DOING THE DESIRES OF THE FLESH AND OF THE MIND, and were BY NATURE CHILDREN OF WRATH, even as the rest. But Elohim, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with the Anointed (by grace you have been saved), (Ephesians 2:1-5 RNEB)
Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, (Colossians 2:18 RNEB)

If it’s in the mind, an emotion will be created, which will produce a work.

Brothers, be imitators together of me, and note those who walk this way, even as you have us for an example. For many walk, of whom I told you often, and now tell you even weeping, as the enemies of the stake of the Anointed, whose end is destruction, whose elohim is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, WHO THINK ABOUT EARTHLY THINGS. (Philippians 3:17-19 RNEB)

They set their mind on earthly things, scripture says, we shall not covet our neighbors wife, possessions, or goods. There is no need to covet someone else’s possessions, which will just lead us to scheming in our mind on how we’re going to attain them for ourselves. Once we start this process by taking the thought, an emotion will be created which will become the driving force to an evil or foolish work.

One of the precepts of this study is that words have multiple meanings, and we find that Christendom teaches that to “walk by the spirit” means if we have the Holy Spirit, we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, however that is not what Sha’ul is saying. It’s important when developing any theological standpoint that we follow the entire outline of the scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. If we look at the scriptures in context rather than in isolated verses the meanings and our understanding will be vastly different than what’s being taught in most religious bodies today.

Walking in the Spirit – Now we know the law is spiritual, we covered this in a prior study. Therefore, when Sha’ul says walk in the spirit, he is actually saying walk in the law, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh . For example, Satan threw everything carnal at Yahshua, however he didn’t waver, he responded with what was bound by the law. The reason we must turn to the law is because it removes all subjectivity, introspective’s, opinions, and personal feelings. No one in their right mind can argue with what YAH says.

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. BUT IF YOU ARE LED BY THE SPIRIT, YOU ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW. (Galatians 5:17-18 RNEB)

If we are led by the Spirit, we’re not under the law. In other words, we don’t need the letter of the law to guide or direct us if we observe the spiritual aspect or spirit of the law, according to our nature. We will further verify these this as we proceed.

Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of Elohim. (Galatians 5:19-21 RNEB)

These are all trespasses against YAH’s code of ethics, Sha’ul is saying if we break Elohim’s laws and ordinances we will not inherit the kingdom. So, how can Sha’ul tell us we’re not under the law, then tell us we can’t do the works of the flesh which are the things forbidden under the law? The answer is simple, he’s not telling us not to follow the law. To walk in the Spirit is to walk under the law, which already tells us the works of the flesh are sin. There are two elements that war with each other, one brings a person into condemnation and the other brings a person to spiritual liberation and eternal life. One is the flesh and the other is the Spirit. Commonly, what we see in most religious bodies is they don’t understand the rules and dynamics of the Hebraic arts. Consequently, when they read the scripture they don’t know how to properly contextualize and apply it.

Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body? But THE THINGS WHICH PROCEED OUT OF THE MOUTH COME OUT OF THE HEART, AND THEY DEFILE THE MAN. (Matthew 15:17-18 RNEB)

Remember the rule, in Hebrew the word heart is leb, which means the inward man, conscience, heart, the seat of ones emotions. However, it also means mind, ones emotions are stimulated and caused by the condition of the mind. Yahshua is saying those things that come out of the mouth, come from the heart or in Hebrew leb, they come from the mind, and they defile the man.

FOR OUT OF THE HEART COME FORTH EVIL thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn’t defile the man.” (Matthew 15:19-20 RNEB)

For out of the heart comes forth evil thoughts, a heart doesn’t think, that’s the job of the mind, however it conditions the heart (leb). When the mind conditions the heart to bring about predictable actions or works, it has become part of a persons character. This is why we are admonished all through scripture to keep our minds on YAH’s code of ethics and laws. If we can stay focused on YAH’s laws our minds won’t have the time or desire to entertain anything else, and his code of ethics will become part of our character. Remember the process, what we think will begin to feel, and what we feel will begin to do. Before we can experience a transformation there first has to be knowledge, then understanding of that knowledge, and finally application. Once it is applied it begins to affect our entire being, bringing about a transformation.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’ but I tell you that EVERYONE WHO GAZES AT A WOMAN TO LUST AFTER HER HAS COMMITTED ADULTERY WITH HER ALREADY IN HIS HEART. (Matthew 5:27-28 RNEB)

First the woman has to be married for this to be adultery even though this is only in his mind. So, what he does is looks upon a woman and begins to fantasize by running scenarios through his mind. These thoughts will produce an emotion, the emotion will continue to feed the imagination and results in a work. Therefore, if we look at a woman to LUST AFTER her our specific intent is to bring about this desire or emotion, as a result we have already committed the act in our mind and emotions (heart).

I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of ELOHIM REMAINS IN YOU, and you have overcome the evil one. (1 John 2:14 RNEB)

The word of Elohim remains in us, not the Holy Spirit, and we have overcome the evil one. Therefore, we overcome the evil one by knowing and understanding the word of Elohim. We have to know this in our mind, because it’s the mind that has to process it, segment it, categorize it, and apply it to the proper situations and circumstances.

Don’t be conformed to this world, BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of Elohim. (Romans 12:2 RNEB)

It’s also the word of Elohim that we need to know, understand, and apply to cleanse and purge ourselves of sin and the ways of this world.

Don’t love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s. The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does Elohim’s will remains forever. (1 John 2:15-17 RNEB)

The father has given us laws and precepts, not to punish us, but to sanctify us to him, so we can be sons and daughters of the covenant and inherit eternal life. We need to stop making excuses on why we can’t abide by his ethics and precepts and hate the system the world represents and has presented to us. The only way we can do this is by cleansing and transforming ourselves by learning, understanding, and applying the word of Elohim.

Search me, Elohim, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalms 139:23-24 RNEB)
Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Master promised to those who love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by Elohim,” for Elohim can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. (James 1:12-15 RNEB)

We are tempted by our own desires or lusts, if we didn’t have the desire we would not be tempted by it. When we conceive an evil thought in our mind, it prompts an emotion, which brings about the work, or conception of sin. If our thoughts are pure we will not conceive sin.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse. Because, knowing Elohim, they didn’t glorify him as Elohim, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and traded the glory of the incorruptible Elohim for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things. THEREFORE ELOHIM ALSO GAVE THEM UP IN THE LUSTS OF THEIR HEARTS TO UNCLEANNESS, THAT THEIR BODIES SHOULD BE DISHONORED AMONG THEMSELVES, (Romans 1:20-24 RNEB)

The latter part of this scripture says Elohim will give them up to the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness. We will actually be turned over to our sin, for example, if we our vain, Elohim will turn us over to vanity until were consumed by it. Before this occurs, we would have already been offered ample opportunity to purge it from our life. Simply put, if we can’t overcome a sin it will consume us and turn us from the word of Elohim.

who exchanged the truth of Elohim for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amein. For this reason, Elohim gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. EVEN AS THEY REFUSED TO HAVE ELOHIM IN THEIR KNOWLEDGE, ELOHIM GAVE THEM UP TO A REPROBATE MIND, TO DO THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE NOT FITTING; (Romans 1:25-28 RNEB)

Look what this is saying, Elohim gave them up to a reprobate [rogue, rascal, scoundrel, miscreant, good-for-nothing] mind because they refused to have Elohim in their mind. They refused to learn, understand, and apply YAH’s ordinances and precepts. This is directed to all those who are lawless, not seeking truth, and walking outside the covenant. Once someone has been given over to a reprobate mind, the thought action process that brought them to this point has already become part of their character, which means it’s very unlikely they will change. YAH extends grace, however each time we’re extended grace and fail to change or overcome, it becomes harder and harder to free ourselves from the bondage that binds us. Many can relate with this, initially it seems easy, but each time we fall and our tempted again with the same transgression, it becomes harder to turn away. We must focus our attention on the laws and precepts of YAH to free ourselves before we reach a point where we can no longer recover from a failure and find ourselves in a worse state.

To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but BOTH THEIR MIND AND THEIR CONSCIENCE ARE DEFILED. (Titus 1:15 RNEB)

May the Elohim of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your WHOLE SPIRIT, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Master Yahshua the Anointed. (1 Thessalonians 5:23 RNEB)

The Hebrew word for spirit used in this verse is Ruach which means wind, breath, mind, spirit, as a seat or organ of mental acts, moral character, breath of air, as energy of life in man and animal, emotion and divine being of the godhead family. So, how do we distinguish what meaning to use? When the word Spirit (Ruach) was translated by the Gnostics, they did it without qualifying which of the meanings properly applies. To distinguish the proper meaning we first need a firm understanding of the scripture from Genesis to Malachi, secondly we need an understanding who the author of the epistle or book was, and finally we need to read it in proper context.

Behold, a certain Torah scholar stood up and tested him, saying, “Rabbi, WHAT SHALL I DO TO INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE?” HE SAID TO HIM, “WHAT IS WRITTEN IN THE TORAH? How do you read it?” He answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE YAH YOUR ELOHIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.” (Luke 10:25-28 RNEB)

To love YAH with all our heart (emotions, entire being), soul, and strength, our mind will need to be focused or preoccupied with something. Let’s look at the scripture that was being quoted, it’s important we realize he was not teaching something new, but was quoting from the Torah.

Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which YAH your Elohim commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it; (Deuteronomy 6:1 RNEB)

The book of Deuteronomy is a reiteration of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers. We find YAH’s code of ethics clearly communicated in these books that were given on Mount Sinai. Moshe is summarizing the first four books so Yisrael will REMEMBER all that was written as they enter the promise land.

that you might fear YAH your Elohim, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, Yisra’el, and observe to do it; that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as YAH, the Elohim of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. (Deuteronomy 6:2-3 RNEB)

Now remember what we read in Deut 6:1 that these are the commandments, statutes, and judgments that YAH your Elohim commanded to teach you. Consequently, to find the 450 laws and understand them, we need to go to Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, these are where all the laws that were given can be found and are explained.

Here we find what the Hebrew scholar was quoting in the new testament. So, how are we supposed to show YAH that we love him with all our heart, soul, and might? By keeping His commandments to attain a perfect, complete, whole, stable, and healthy mind. We must make decisions, respond, and react using the law as the standard which all things are judged.

These words, WHICH I COMMAND YOU THIS DAY, SHALL BE ON YOUR HEART; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7 RNEB)

The Hebrew scholar only quoted verse five, however that does not mean we can take this verse out of context. We must view this in its original context as the Hebrew scholar and Yahshua would have.

You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes. (Deuteronomy 6:8 RNEB)

The “sign on your hand” would represent our works, and the reference to “symbols between your eyes” refers to our mind. Therefore, whatever is in your mind has to be seen in the works of your hand. Were told every man will be judged by his works, not by grace, faith or his intentions, but by what he actually does.

Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful. FOR WE KNOW THAT THE LAW IS SPIRITUAL, but I am fleshly, sold under sin. (Romans 7:13-14 RNEB)

We’re told to walk in the Spirit, and it’s the law that is Spiritual. Therefore, to walk in the spirit we must walk in the law. The root of “Spiritual” is Spirit, and we need to understand that the law is a spirit, and we’re under a commandment to have the law in our minds.

For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. SO NOW IT IS NO MORE I THAT DO IT, BUT SIN WHICH DWELLS IN ME. (Romans 7:15-17 RNEB)

Lets go back to the beginning and see if we can’t find this same precept.

The man knew Chavah his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Kayin, and said, “I have gotten a man with YAH’s help.” Again she gave birth, to Kayin’s brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Kayin was a tiller of the ground. As time passed, it happened that Kayin brought an offering to YAH from the fruit of the ground. Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat of it. YAH respected Abel and his offering, BUT HE DIDN’T RESPECT KAYIN AND HIS OFFERING. Kayin was very angry, and the expression on his face fell. (Genesis 4:1-5 RNEB)
YAH said to Kayin, “Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen? If you do well, will it not be lifted up? IF YOU DON’T DO WELL, SIN CROUCHES AT THE DOOR. ITS DESIRE IS FOR YOU, BUT YOU ARE TO RULE OVER IT.” (Genesis 4:6-7 RNEB)

Look what Elohim is saying to Kayin, “sin should not rule over you, but you should rule over it”. Now let’s look at what Sha’ul said, “it’s not me that’s doing these things but the sin in me”. However, the spirit of elohim said to Kayin at the beginning of days to rule over sin and not let it control you! We can only do this if we have a spiritual mind because sin is carnal. The same precept YAH showed us in the beginning is now also being shown again through the Spirit using Sha’ul.
