The Sanctified

The purpose of this study is to examine what it means to be sanctified according to a contextual analysis of scripture. We will answer the following questions.

  • What does it mean to be sanctified?
  • How do we become sanctified?
  • What things does Elohim consider sanctified?
  • What does Elohim consider unclean?
  • What is the Fathers name?
  • What is the word of truth?

Our primary objective is to show that in order to inherit eternal life, we must be sanctified, and this is not a one time act but demonstrated by the way we live and exhibited through the works of our hand.

"But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; (Matthew 25:31-34 RNEB)
For you are a holy [set-apart] people to YAH your Elohim: YAH your Elohim has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. (Deuteronomy 7:6 RNEB)

We must ask ourselves if we are the rebellious sheep symbolized by the goat, or the sanctified lamb of Elohim called to be his HOLY people? Lets look at the definition of Sanctify:

  1. To set-apart to a sacred purpose or to religious use : Consecrate.
  2. To free from sin, make holy : Purify.

To be sanctified is to be set-apart and made Holy.

Lets look at what scripture has to say about how a person is sanctified. We will examine the Torah, the Prophets, the Gospels, and the epistles to see what YAH has written regarding sanctification and holiness.

Sanctified Days

The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their vast array. On the seventh day Elohim finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. Elohim blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which he had created and made. (Genesis 2:1-3 RNEB)

Elohim blessed and sanctified the seventh day.

"Observe the day of Sabbath, to keep it holy, as YAH your Elohim commanded you. (Deuteronomy 5:12 RNEB)

We must observe the Sabbath and keep it holy (Sanctified, set-apart). How do we do this?

"'Six days shall work be done: but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no manner of work. It is a Sabbath to YAH in all your dwellings. (Leviticus 23:3 RNEB)

We must not only rest on this day but also gather and worship. The command is for us to keep the seventh as a solemn rest to separate or sanctify ourselves to YAH.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "Speak also to the children of Yisra'el, saying, 'Most certainly you shall keep my Sabbaths: FOR IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS; that you may know that I AM YAH WHO SANCTIFIES YOU. (Exodus 31:12-13 RNEB)
You shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to YAH. Whoever does any work on the day of Sabbath shall surely be put to death. Therefore the children of Yisra'el shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Yisra'el forever; for in six days YAH made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.'" (Exodus 31:14-17 RNEB)

We need to keep all his Sabbaths to be sanctified (set-apart). YAH's Sabbaths are not just on the seventh day of the week, we can find all the Sabbaths of Elohim listed in Leviticus chapter twenty three.

"'These are the set feasts of YAH, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their appointed season. (Leviticus 23:4 RNEB)
On the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread to YAH. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. In the first day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no regular work. But you shall offer an offering made by fire to YAH seven days. In the seventh day is a holy convocation: you shall do no regular work.'" (Leviticus 23:6-8 RNEB)
Six days you shall eat unleavened bread; and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to YAH your Elohim; you shall do no work [therein]. (Deuteronomy 16:8 RNEB)

1) Unleavened bread 1st and 7th day kept as a Sabbath. (2 Sabbaths observed)

"'You shall count from the next day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be completed: (Leviticus 23:15 RNEB)
You shall make proclamation on the same day: there shall be a holy convocation to you; you shall do no regular work. This is a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. (Leviticus 23:21 RNEB)
Also in the day of the first fruits, when you offer a new meal offering to YAH in your [feast of] weeks, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no servile work; (Numbers 28:26 RNEB)

2) Pentecost (Feast of Weeks) kept as a Sabbath.

"Speak to the children of Yisra'el, saying, 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, shall be a solemn rest to you, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. (Leviticus 23:24 RNEB)

3) Trumpets kept as a Sabbath.

"However on the tenth day of this seventh month is Yom Kippur: it shall be a holy convocation to you, and you shall afflict yourselves; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to YAH. (Leviticus 23:27 RNEB)
It shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall deny yourselves. In the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall keep your Sabbath." (Leviticus 23:32 RNEB)

4) Day of Atonement kept as a Sabbath.

"Speak to the children of Yisra'el, and say, 'On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of booths for seven days to YAH. (Leviticus 23:34 RNEB)
"'So on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruits of the land, you shall keep the feast of YAH seven days: on the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest. (Leviticus 23:39 RNEB)

5) Tabernacles (Feast of Booths) 1st and 8th day kept as a Sabbath. (2 Sabbaths)

The Sabbaths are the first law of sanctification, unless we observe these set-apart (Holy) days we cannot be sanctified. Man cannot sanctify himself, only YAH can do this, so we need to follow his instructions. YAH has allocated days which have been sanctified, and if we observe them, we sanctify ourselves.

Clean and Unclean Foods

"Speak to the children of Yisra'el, saying, 'These are the living things which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth. Whatever parts the hoof, and is cloven-footed, and chews the cud among the animals, that you may eat. "'Nevertheless these you shall not eat of those that chew the cud, or of those who part the hoof: the camel, because he chews the cud but doesn't have a parted hoof, he is unclean to you. The coney, because he chews the cud but doesn't have a parted hoof, he is unclean to you. The hare, because she chews the cud but doesn't part the hoof, she is unclean to you. The pig, because he has a split hoof, and is cloven-footed, but doesn't chew the cud, he is unclean to you. Of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch; they are unclean to you. "'These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, that you may eat. All that don't have fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are an abomination to you, and you detest them. You shall not eat of their flesh, and you shall detest their carcasses. Whatever has no fins nor scales in the waters, that is an abomination to you. "'These you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the nesher, and the rakham, and the black rakham, and the red kite, any kind of black kite, any kind of raven, the tanshemet, the screech owl, and the gull, any kind of hawk, the kos, the shalakh, the yanshuf, the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, the khasidah, any kind of heron, the dukifat, and the atalef. "'All flying insects that walk on all fours are an abomination to you. You shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps, neither shall you make yourselves unclean with them, that you should be defiled thereby. For I am YAH your Elohim. SANCTIFY YOURSELVES THEREFORE, AND BE HOLY; for I am holy: neither shall you defile yourselves with any kind of creeping thing that moves on the earth. For I am YAH who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your Elohim. YOU SHALL THEREFORE BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY. "'This is the law of the animal, and of the bird, and of every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth, TO MAKE A DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN, and between the living thing that may be eaten and the living thing that may not be eaten.'" (Leviticus 11:2-47 RNEB)

YAH has set-apart the animals which are clean (Sanctified) and those that are not clean. If we eat unclean foods we are defiling ourselves, to be sanctified, we must eat only sanctified foods. YAH said "we should not defile ourselves by eating unclean animals". Clearly, we can be sanctified to YAH only if we eat animals which are permitted. If we eat any of the creatures not listed as "good for food" (Pork, Lobster, Crab, Oysters, etc..) we are not sanctified? Remember these meats were never considered food by Elohim, and if a Hebrew like Shaul was writing about meats in an assembly, these unclean animals would not be considered food.

The next scripture has been used by many religious leaders to justify the eating of unclean meats.

But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron; forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which Elohim created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of Elohim is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving. For it is sanctified through the word of Elohim and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:1-5 RNEB)

Though there are a number of things that could be said about these verses, lets focus on verse 5 "For it is sanctified through the word of Elohim and prayer". In order to understand this verse we must know what "the word of Elohim" is. This specifically refers to the law, also called the Torah, which is where all the instructions for living a righteous life are found. Therefore, if our food is sanctified by the word of Elohim, it means our food is sanctified by the instructions given by Elohim, and we find those instructions in the Torah, more specifically the book of Leviticus.

Scripture says some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons that contradict the word of Elohim. We can't sanctify ourselves to Elohim, it's only by following the instructions given in Torah that we can be sanctified. When a man attempts to sanctify himself, he does it not realizing that he is serving Satan and not YAH. Look what the prophet Isaiah said:

For, behold, YAH WILL COME WITH FIRE, and his chariots shall be like the whirlwind; to render his anger with fierceness, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire will YAH execute judgment, and by his sword, on all flesh; and the slain of YAH shall be many. Those who sanctify and purify themselves in order to enter the gardens, then follow the one who was already there, eating pig's flesh, reptiles and mice, will all be destroyed together, says YAH. For I [know] their works and their thoughts: [the time] comes, that I will gather all nations and languages; and they shall come, and shall see my glory. (Isaiah 66:15-18 RNEB)

Lets focus on 66:17.

Those who sanctify and purify themselves in order to enter the gardens, then follow the one who was already there, eating pig's flesh, reptiles and mice, will all be destroyed together, says YAH. (Isaiah 66:17 RNEB)

Why is YAH going to destroy those who have not kept the dietary law by eating pig (pork), reptiles, or mice? It's because the foods that are not sanctified for us to eat are considered abominations. Man has tried to sanctify himself by doing the opposite of the instructions he was commanded to follow according to the laws of sanctification. This is why Shaul made it a point to say that the foods we can receive and eat are sanctified by the word of Elohim, not man. Lets see who will come with fire (Isaiah 66:15), in order to better understand why many will be destroyed.

and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Master Yahshua is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, giving vengeance to those who don't know Elohim, and to those who don't obey the Good News of our Master Yahshua, who will pay the penalty: eternal destruction from the face of YAH and from the glory of his might, when he comes to be glorified in his holy ones, and to be admired among all those who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed) in that day. To this end we also pray always for you, that our Elohim may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodness and work of faith, with power; (2 Thessalonians 1:7-11 RNEB)

Yahshua will come with fire to destroy those who do not know YAH. The only way we can know him is through his word which he gave to Moshe and the Prophets. The Word that he gave them was to "keep my commandments and to do those things that are lawful". Shaul also wrote he will render rebuke to those who do not know the Gospel. Lets see what he's talking about by looking at what Yahshua said to Satan.

The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of Elohim, command this stone to become bread." Yahshua answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of Elohim.'" (Luke 4:3-4 RNEB)

Yahshua responded by quoting from the books of the Law.

Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth. (John 17:17 RNEB)
For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. (John 17:19 RNEB)

We are sanctified by the word of truth. Doesn't Elohim's word say to keep the Sabbaths, tell us what we can and cannot eat, and give us instructions for interacting with Elohim and each other? Yahshua walked perfectly in the word of Elohim and therefore he was sanctified by the word of truth. In other words, Yahshua was set-apart (sanctified) in the Laws of Elohim and never deviated from them, this is how he became perfect. The apostles also walked according to the word of Elohim, which is what is required to be sanctified.

I revealed your name to the people whom you have given me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me. They have kept your word. (John 17:6 RNEB)
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. Those whom you have given me I have kept. None of them is lost, except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. (John 17:12 RNEB)
I have given them your word. The world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (John 17:14 RNEB)
Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, even so I have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. (John 17:17-19 RNEB)

We must walk in his commandments, laws, and all that YAH has instructed in order for us to be sanctified to him. If we don't keep the commandments of Elohim then we are not sanctified (Holy, set-apart)!

The Occult (Divinition, Witchcraft, etc..)

"'The person that turns to those who are mediums, and to the wizards, to play the prostitute after them, I will even set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people. "'Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am YAH your Elohim. You shall keep my statutes, and do them. I am YAH who sanctifies you. (Leviticus 20:6-8 RNEB)

We find further instructions that must be followed in order for us to be sanctified, if we do not keep all his instructions we make ourselves transgressors and sanctified to different elohim. Shaul warned us about doctrines of devils, which are teachings contrary to Elohim's instructions.

"Speak to all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, and tell them, 'You shall be holy; for I YAH your Elohim am holy. (Leviticus 19:2 RNEB)
You shall be holy to me: for I, YAH, am holy, and have set you apart from the peoples, that you should be mine. (Leviticus 20:26 RNEB)
that you may remember and do all my commandments, and be holy to your Elohim. (Numbers 15:40 RNEB)
YAH will establish you for a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you; if you shall keep the commandments of YAH your Elohim, and walk in his ways. (Deuteronomy 28:9 RNEB)

YAH said that we should be Holy, Which means we need to set ourselves apart from the nations so that we can belong to him. Just as YAH set-apart the seventh day (Saturday) from the other days of the week, then blessed and sanctified it. He gave us instructions (laws) that would separate us from the nations. If we have been set-apart and made holy, we can't eat what the nations eat and do what the nations do? Things such as celebrating Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentines day, wearing crosses, worshipping on Sunday, eating unclean foods, and seeking the advice of Psychics.

But I have said to you, "You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey." I AM YAH YOUR ELOHIM, WHO HAS SEPARATED YOU FROM THE PEOPLES. (Leviticus 20:24 RNEB)
take heed to yourself that you not be ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before you; AND THAT YOU NOT INQUIRE AFTER THEIR ELOHIMS, saying, How do these nations serve their elohims? even so will I do likewise. (Deuteronomy 12:30 RNEB)
When you are come into the land which YAH your Elohim gives you, YOU SHALL NOT LEARN TO DO AFTER THE ABOMINATIONS OF THOSE NATIONS. (Deuteronomy 18:9 RNEB)
Thus says YAH, "DON'T LEARN THE WAY OF THE NATIONS, and don't be dismayed at the signs of the sky; for the nations are dismayed at them. For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move. They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don't speak: they must be carried, because they can't go. Don't be afraid of them; for they can't do evil, neither is it in them to do good." (Jeremiah 10:2-5 RNEB)

We're told not to inquire after the nations gods to learn to serve them, and not to learn their ways. Jeremiah describes the custom of what can only be a christmas tree and calls it vanity, which means futility, uselessness, pointlessness, and worthlessness.

Being Sanctified is doing what YAH says, which is generally just the opposite of what the nations do. Following the instructions (laws) of Elohim shows our reverence and the relationship we have with him.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as YAH my Elohim commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what great nation is there, that has a elohim so near to them, as YAH our Elohim is whenever we call on him? What great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? (Deuteronomy 4:5-8 RNEB)
YAH commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear YAH our Elohim, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as at this day. It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all this commandment before YAH our Elohim, as he has commanded us. (Deuteronomy 6:24-25 RNEB)
For you are a holy people to YAH your Elohim, and YAH has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. (Deuteronomy 14:2 RNEB)

The expectation is that we would serve him and be reckoned among the nations by demonstrating our holiness (freedom from sin). We do this by walking in the laws and precepts of Elohim which sanctify us. If this is the case couldn't it be said that if we don’t keep the commandments we are Unholy? This brings some light to Shaul's statement in the epistle to Timothy.

as knowing this, that Torah is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the unreverent and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, (1 Timothy 1:9 RNEB)
For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (2 Timothy 3:2 RNEB)

This is talking about people who have not sanctified themselves in the commandments. Remember the epistles were written to assemblies of believers not to unbelievers. A person cannot say that they are sanctified or holy if they are not walking in the covenant that YAH gave to his people to observe, and this includes New Covenant followers. The New Covenant states that YAH's laws will be written in our heart and mind, there was only one set of laws handed down, and they can be found in the first five books of the bible. Therefore, it's still the same law, just without the Levitical priesthood and animal sacrifices. We also must remember that now that the sacrificial system is gone, we are sanctified by the blood of Yahshua, who is a better offering than the blood of animals, and now acts as our mediator and High Priest.

Husbands, love your wives, even as the Anointed also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it; that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, (Ephesians 5:25-26 RNEB)
Therefore Yahshua also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered outside of the gate. (Hebrews 13:12 RNEB)

We are sanctified by the blood of Yahshua the Anointed when we come under his baptism and keep the commandments of Elohim. Therefore, this would mean that there are two things we must do to be sanctified.

  1. Keeping the commandments as prescribed from Genesis to Malachi.
  2. Coming under the blood through purification (baptism) in the name of Yahshua the Anointed as prescribed from Matthew to Revelation.

This gives us an opportunity to receive eternal life, the next few verses will confirm the two necessary steps to receive salvation.

The dragon grew angry with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, WHO KEEP ELOHIM'S COMMANDMENTS AND HOLD YAHSHUA'S TESTIMONY. (Revelation 12:17 RNEB)
Here is the patience of the holy ones, THOSE WHO KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF ELOHIM, AND THE FAITH OF YAHSHUA." (Revelation 14:12 RNEB)

The laws of Sanctification were given to set YAH's people apart from the world which he gave as commandments and statutes, specifically laws such as the Sabbaths, dietary code, and laws of cleanliness.

Yisrael was the only nation that received these laws of sanctification. However, if we come into the understanding of these laws we're responsible for keeping them.

For there is no partiality with Elohim. For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before Elohim, but the doers of the law will be justified (for when Gentiles who don't have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts among themselves accusing or else excusing them) (Romans 2:11-15 RNEB)

YAH is not a respecter of persons. Everyone must keep his laws whether it's through instruction or by nature. However, the laws of sanctification cannot be done by nature, these were given by YAH himself as things set-apart (holy). The only way to understand these laws is through a teacher, and man is required to learn the holy things of YAH on the Sabbath according to the apostles.

"Therefore my judgment is that we don't trouble those from among the Gentiles who turn to Elohim, but that we write to them that they abstain from the pollution of idols, from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood. FOR MOSHE FROM GENERATIONS OF OLD HAS IN EVERY CITY THOSE WHO PREACH HIM, BEING READ IN THE SYNAGOGUES EVERY SABBATH." Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole assembly, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Shaul and Barnabas: Judah called Bar-Sabba, and Sila, chief men among the brothers. They wrote these things by their hand: "The apostles, the elders, and the brothers, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: greetings. (Acts 15:19-23 RNEB)

Anyone that entered the covenant would receive the laws of sanctification as they learned them on the Sabbath days. Look what Peter said about those who reject these laws after escaping the defilement of the world.

For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Master and Savior Yahshua the Anointed, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. (2 Peter 2:20-21 RNEB)

It would be better for them "not to have known", because there is no excuse once we come into the knowledge of YAH's righteousness.

Thus says YAH, Keep you justice, and do righteousness; for my salvation is close to coming, and my righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast; who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil. Neither let the foreigner, who has joined himself to YAH, speak, saying, YAH will surely separate me from his people; neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. For thus says YAH of the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and hold fast my covenant: To them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name better than of sons and of daughters; I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. Also the foreigners who join themselves to YAH, to minister to him, and to love the name of YAH, to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it, and holds fast my covenant; even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. (Isaiah 56:1-7 RNEB)

Isaiah is speaking prophetically, we must be whole heartedly following YAH’s covenant in order to be identified as his servant.

Thus says YAH against all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Yisra'el to inherit: behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them. It shall happen, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land. It shall happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As YAH lives; even as they taught my people to swear by Ba`al; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people. But if they will not hear, then will I pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, says YAH. (Jeremiah 12:14-17 RNEB)

YAH's evil neighbors are those who don’t keep his covenant, neither do they exact righteousness. It says in verse 16 that the evil neighbors, which are those who occupy Yisrael that are not Yisraelites, "to diligently learn the ways of my people ", they need to keep the laws of Yisrael and practice the culture according to the word of Elohim, "then shall they be built up in the midst of my people". However, if they don’t obey they will be destroyed. So, we learn if we don't keep the laws of Elohim, we will be destroyed. This applies to both the old and New Testament times. Lets look at a future prophecy pertaining to man.

Thus says YAH of Armies: "In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Hebrew, saying, 'We will go with you, for we have heard that Elohim is with you.'" (Zechariah 8:23 RNEB)

This prophecy pertains to end times, and we learn the nations will grab hold of YAH’s chosen people to learn His ways and be accepted. This means all nations (peoples) must keep the commandments as well as receive the baptism of Yahshua the Anointed to be "Sanctified and heirs of Salvation". This is important because YAH has separated his people by giving them laws and commandments, and this is how his people will be recognized at his return.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27 RNEB)

How do we know who Yahshua’s sheep are? It's those who hear his voice, follow the commandments of the Father, and have faith in his name that he's the master and savior sent to be the atoning sacrifice for our sin's. We need to understand that the laws of sanctification were given for many reasons, but specifically so that we could be identified as the people of YAH.

Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am YAH who sanctifies them. (Ezekiel 20:12 RNEB)

The Sanctified Name

YAH has sanctified us by giving us his commandment and Sabbaths. Just as he has sanctified us, he requires that we sanctify him. We do this by keeping the commandments which he gave us to show the nations who we serve by our cultural practices. We also sanctify (make holy) YAH by calling on his Holy Name, which separates him from all other gods created and deitized by man.

Lets review what Yahshua said in Matthew.

Pray like this: 'Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. (Matthew 6:9 RNEB)

To keep the Fathers name holy means, set-apart and consecrated is his name, it is sanctified. How can we personify (embody, represent) our creator in truth and establish a relationship with him if we don't know his name? To sanctify the Fathers name and make it holy we must show our reverence through our works and call upon his holy name and not a title or a erroneous name as the nations have given him.

The Fathers Name

Moshe said to Elohim, "Behold, when I come to the children of Yisra'el, and tell them, 'The Elohim of your fathers has sent me to you;' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' What should I tell them?" (Exodus 3:13 RNEB)

When Moshe was given the charge to deliver the children of Yisrael out of bondage, one of his first questions was "what is your name, what shall I tell the children of Yisrael?" This is where the Fathers name was revealed to Moshe.

Elohim said to Moshe, "I AM WHO I AM," and he said, "You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this: 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Elohim said moreover to Moshe, "You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this, 'YAH, the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations. (Exodus 3:14-15 RNEB)

So, the name that was to be used forever, as a memorial is, "I AM"? No! We must realize in the days of antiquity, our forefathers spoke the language of Canaan (a Phoenician dialect), and that language is improperly called Hebrew, simply because the main characters of the bible were Hebrew. We see that beginning with the patriarch Abraham, those of the Shemitic race – the descendents of Shem – were called "Hebrews" (Gen 14:13). Hebrew was not only the race [a group descended from a common ancestor] of the children of Yisrael, but also their spoken language. To get the true meaning of Exodus 3:14-15, the name must be read in Hebrew. Lets read this again, this time with the revealed name expressed in Hebrew.

Elohim said to Moshe, "EhYeh Asher EhYeh," and he said, "You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this: 'Ehyeh has sent me to you.'" Elohim said moreover to Moshe, "You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this, 'YAH, the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations. (Exodus 3:14-15 RNEB)

EhYeh is the current rendering in the Hebrew bible which is incorrect. The proper rendering is HaYAH Asher HaYAH as it can be clearly seen throughout the usage of the name and contextual citations which renders the Most High's name as YAH.

From All Scripture Inspired of God and Beneficial reads: ”I SHALL PROVE TO BE [ Hebrew: Eh-yeh, from the Hebrew verb ha-yah’] has sent me to you” (1963, 1990 Watch Tower Bible And Tract Society Of Pennsylvania)

YAH that is my name. The name revealed! "HA" or "Eh", which precedes YAH in this text, is a definite article used to emphasize and express the solidarity and oneness of the One True Elohim. A "definite article" is a word such as "an" or "the" used with a noun to limit or give definiteness to its application, (Copyright 1997 by Merriam Webster Dictionary). Secular sources in various religious institutions also confirm the same truth:

"...In many places in Scriptures Elohim is also found preceded by the definite article ha. (Ge 5:22). Concerning the use of ha’ Elohim, F. Zorell said: " In the Holy Scriptures especially the true one, God, Jahve, is designated by this word;’Jahve is the [one true] God’" Lexicon Hebraic Veteris Testamenti, Rome, 1984, pp 54.

YAH is his name forever, and is a memorial to all generations.

If we look in a Strong’s Concordance, will see the following for "I AM", which, when appropriately read in Hebrew as originally intended, was revealed as "HAYAH". Strongs# 01961 hayah {haw-yaw}

Moshe said to Elohim, "Behold, when I come to the children of Yisra'el, and tell them, 'The Elohim of your fathers has sent me to you;' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' What should I tell them?" Elohim said to Moshe, "I AM [haYAH] WHO [Asher] I AM [haYAH]," and he said, "You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this: 'I AM [haYAH] has sent me to you.'" Elohim said moreover to Moshe, "You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this, 'YAH, THE ELOHIM OF YOUR FATHERS, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations. (Exodus 3:13-15 RNEB)

YAH, the Elohim of your fathers... Has sent me to you. This is my name forever and this is my memorial to all generations. Therefore, if the Father’s name is a memorial then it should be sanctified, and we should know and be recognized by his name.

Your name, YAH, endures forever; your renown, YAH, throughout all generations. (Psalms 135:13 RNEB)

Lets look at another example in scripture to see how important it is to sanctify our heavenly Father, YAH.

Then they asked him, "Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?" He said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear YAH, the Elohim of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land." (Jonah 1:8-9 RNEB)

Notice in this scripture Jonah said that he was a Hebrew. Not that it meant anything because the Hebrews had fallen into paganism like all the nations, but this is what caught the attention of the sailors. When Jonah said to the sailors that he feared YAH the Elohim of heaven, which made the earth. We can clearly see what Jonah did was sanctify YAH in the eyes of strangers. We can understand what Isaiah and Yahshua said even more clearly by looking at Jonah’s actions.

Many versions of the bible will read “I fear the LORD” rather, than “I fear YAH” because the translators took the Father’s name out of the book and replaced it with "LORD", the term "LORD" as a replacement can generally be verified in the preface of most bibles.

Summing Up

In order to be Sanctified we must:

  • Keep the Laws and Sabbaths.
  • Be baptized (Purified) in the name of Yahshua the Anointed.
  • We sanctify YAH’s name by setting it apart from other gods, other titles, and using it when speaking to others and in prayer.

We have learned being set-apart (Holy) before our Father requires obedience. There is a moral law that all men follow whether it be through the Torah or from conscience, however in order for us to be sanctified, we must be obedient to all we have been instructed to do by YAH. Man cannot sanctify himself by worshipping the Father in a way he believes is right, but only as we have been instructed in the word of Elohim.

When we are engrafted into the nation of Yisrael by choosing to dwell with and serve the almighty EL by approaching him through Yahshua the Anointed, we our also becoming part of a culture. This culture requires us to follow the dictates, laws, and ordinances of its ruler, YAH. This would be no different than if we decided to move our physical address to China where we would be required to follow China's laws and ordinances in fear of reprisal by their system of law. Where ever we dwell, we will be required to follow the Laws of the land, it is no different when we serve our heavenly Father.

His instructions are good for all things pertaining to life. Following these instructions make us stand out from among the nations as a separate people that don’t follow the ways that seem right in the eyes of men.

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Yisra'el." (Exodus 19:5-6 RNEB)
Whatever thing I command you, that shall you observe to do: you shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it. (Deuteronomy 12:32 RNEB)
Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moshe the servant of YAH commanded you, to love YAH your Elohim, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. (Joshua 22:5 RNEB)
