Understanding Prayer

For thousands of years we have had conversations with our heavenly father through prayer. However, why do we pray, and what do we know about it? For many praying is something handed down through the traditions of their parents, for others their religious leaders has taught them how to pray and what to pray for. More significantly what does the scripture have to say about prayer?

In this study we will examine the subject of prayer and answer the following questions.

  • How do we pray?
  • When do we pray?
  • What prayers are heard, and which are rejected?
  • Why are prayers rejected?
  • In prayer do we ask for carnal gain or spiritual awareness?

Many people wonder if YAH even hears their prayers or acknowledges them. We will answer many of the questions surrounding this topic through careful examination of the scriptures.

    Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility. (Proverbs 18:12 RNWEB)

Before an individual receives honor or recognition, it will be proceeded by humility, and without fail a haughty or proud mind will come before destruction.

    Distil, you heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, that it may bring forth salvation, and let it cause righteousness to spring up together; I, YAH, have created it. WOE TO HIM WHO STRIVES WITH HIS MAKER--a potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay ask him who fashions it, "What are you making?" or your work, "He has no hands?" We are striving with Elohim when we are disobedient, disobedience is not keeping his laws.

    Woe to him who says to a father, "What have you become the father of?" or to a woman, "With what do you travail?" Thus says YAH, the Holy One of Yisra'el, and his Maker: ASK ME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE TO COME; CONCERNING MY SONS, AND CONCERNING THE WORK OF MY HANDS, COMMAND YOU ME. (Isaiah 45:10-11 RNWEB)

Prayer is a unilateral conversation, we are speaking, Elohim is listening, and then we wait to see if we have been heard. We will not hear his voice, YAH said he talks to his children in visions and dreams. In some ecclesiastical systems, they are told they can have a two way conversation with Elohim, however for what reason or purpose would we have to talk to him? He has already expressed his will and his commandments over thousands of years in the scriptures, the books from Genesis to Malachi. Knowing this, if your one who claims to hear the voice of Elohim, whose voice do you really think your hearing? This is another topic, for another time. As we go through this study you will find that the people claiming to hear his voice are generally the very ones YAH says their prayers won't be heard.

    I have made the earth, and created man on it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens; and all their army have I commanded. I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will make straight all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let my exiles go free, not for price nor reward, says YAH of Armies.     Therefore, my brothers, beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand firm in YAH, my beloved. I exhort Evodia, and I exhort Syntyche, to think the same way in YAH. Yes, I beg you also, true yokefellow, help these women, for they labored with me in the Good News, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.     Rejoice in YAH always! Again I will say, Rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. YAH is at hand. IN NOTHING BE ANXIOUS, BUT IN EVERYTHING, BY PRAYER AND PETITION WITH THANKSGIVING, LET YOUR REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN TO ELOHIM. (Philippians 4:4-6 RNWEB)

When we're overly anxious we make bad decisions and end up regretting them. All things should be done through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, making our petitions known to Elohim, while enduring with patience.

    AND THE PEACE OF ELOHIM, WHICH SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING, WILL GUARD YOUR HEARTS AND YOUR MINDS IN THE ANOINTED YAHSHUA. Finally, brothers, WHATEVER THINGS ARE TRUE, WHATEVER THINGS ARE HONORABLE, WHATEVER THINGS ARE JUST, WHATEVER THINGS ARE PURE, WHATEVER THINGS ARE LOVELY, WHATEVER THINGS ARE OF GOOD REPORT; IF THERE IS ANY VIRTUE, AND IF THERE IS ANY PRAISE, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS. The things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me: do these things, and the Elohim of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:7-9 RNWEB)

Shaul said the things we learned, received, and heard, he always taught from the Torah, if we will keep the laws and commandments of YAH, which is how we walk in righteousness, the Elohim of peace will be with us.

    and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and YAH will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer OF A RIGHTEOUS PERSON is powerfully effective. (James 5:15-16 RNWEB)

To be righteous we must keep the laws and commandments of Elohim, serving him in obedience puts us in a position where he will hear our prayers. Look at the some of the righteous men in the days of antiquity who prayed and Elohim granted their petition, Elijah, Elisha, Moshe, Abraham, and many others.

    The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to YAH, but THE PRAYER OF THE UPRIGHT IS HIS DELIGHT. (Proverbs 15:8 RNWEB)
    YAH is far from the wicked, but HE HEARS THE PRAYER OF THE RIGHTEOUS. The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones. (Proverbs 15:29-30 RNWEB)

YAH is far from the wicked and only hears the prayers of the righteous. We have already pointed out to be righteous we must keep the laws and ordinances given in the first five books of the bible. So, who are the ones considered wicked? They are anyone that does not follow the word of Elohim, those that do not keep his laws, commandments, and ordinances. There are no gray areas, scripture says concerning Elohim were either for him or against him, Man cannot serve to masters.

    He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, EVEN HIS PRAYER IS AN ABOMINATION. (Proverbs 28:9 RNWEB)

If were not obedient to the law our prayers when they are offered up are deemed an abomination. What we need to ask ourselves is what state of mind as well as character do we need to have before we can come before Elohim to pray and petition and have our prayers answered.

    The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. WE KNOW THAT ELOHIM DOESN'T LISTEN TO SINNERS, but if anyone is a worshipper of Elohim, and does his will, he listens to him. (John 9:30-31 RNWEB)

Elohim does not hear sinners, those who don't keep his laws or believe that there is a standard given that we must live by. The Church teaches that we just need to believe in a man named Jesus and our prayers will be heard, however that's not what scripture says. We have seen in both the old testament and new testament that we must do Elohim's will and be obedient to his word, which cannot be done without properly understanding the first five books of the bible.

    Not everyone who says to me, 'Master, Master,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21 RNWEB)

It's only those that do the will of the father that will enter the Kingdom of Elohim.

    Many will tell me in that day, 'Master, Master, didn't we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?' Then I will tell them, 'I NEVER KNEW YOU. DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO WORK LAWLESSNESS.' (Matthew 7:22-23 RNWEB)

The will of the father is for us to be obedient to his commandments, we know this because he is telling those who don't keep his law to depart from him.

    All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (Matthew 21:22 RNWEB)

We don't ask Elohim for things to fill carnal voids, but for things that will help bring spiritual stability, so we can serve him without failing or stumbling. We must offer up our prayers and petitions in righteousness.

    "Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:7-11 RNWEB)
    "If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. FIRST BE RECONCILED TO YOUR BROTHER, AND THEN COME AND OFFER YOUR GIFT. (Matthew 5:23-24 RNWEB)

This is an area where many fall short, if we have open or unresolved issues and have not done what the word of Elohim dictates for that situation our prayers won't be heard, and we are walking in disobedience to the law of Elohim. It's sad, but most people that pray don't know the requirements necessary to have their prayers heard.

    Yahshua answered them, "Have faith in Elohim. (Mark 11:22 RNWEB)

We must have faith and believe in Elohim.

    For most certainly I tell you, whoever may tell this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and doesn't doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is happening; he shall have whatever he says. Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them. WHENEVER YOU STAND PRAYING, FORGIVE, IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST ANYONE; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions." (Mark 11:23-26 RNWEB)

This is a wonderful promise, assuming we meet the standards that YAH has set forth to have our prayers heard. Yahshua is emphasizing that in order for our prayers to be heard we must forgive if we have anything against anyone. Any type of animosity, strife, or unresolved issues must be addressed according to the guidelines laid down under the law, so they are not held against us and put us in a position of walking in disobedience to Elohim.

    You didn't choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; THAT WHATEVER YOU WILL ASK OF THE FATHER IN MY NAME, HE MAY GIVE IT TO YOU. (John 15:16 RNWEB)

The fruit is what grows after receiving the seed, the seed is the word of Elohim. If the word takes root in us, we can ask the Father by approaching him in the name of Yahshua and we shall be heard. Gifts, sacrifices, and offerings had to be conducted at the hands of a priest, intercession and mediation was also done by a priest. Yahshua's atoning sacrifice for our past sins nullified the sacrificial ordinances and Levitical priesthood for this age, our high priest, intercessor, and mediator between us and the father is now Yahshua the Anointed, and though the glory, praise, and prayer must be directed to the Father, we must approach him through the current high priest, just as Yisrael did through the Levitical order.     "In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, WHATEVER YOU MAY ASK OF THE FATHER IN MY NAME, HE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU. (John 16:23 RNWEB)

We ask the Father in the name of Yahshua, we don't ask the son for anything, his role was to teach, confirm through prophecy, be a propitiator for mans trespasses, and finally to be a priest, mediator, and intercessor on our behalf.

    You husbands, in like manner, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered. (1 Peter 3:7 RNWEB)

By Design the man and woman in marriage are to have a harmonious relationship, where the woman compliments and helps the man. She is the weaker vessel and the one under authority, the man is to show his wife love and understanding, giving her honor. If there's strife, bickering, rebellion, abuse, or unfaithfulness taking place in the house, it needs to all be reconciled before any petition is brought before Elohim. If for some reason the situation cannot be reconciled because of one of the parties involved, then it is important the other party does everything there supposed to do according to the ordinances of law, then petition Elohim to ask for assistance in the situation.

    Where do wars and fightings among you come from? don't they come from your pleasures that war in your members? You lust, and don't have. You kill, covet, and can't obtain. You fight and make war. You don't have, because you don't ask. (James 4:1-2 RNWEB)

We must petition Elohim before embarking into a situation and not after, once we have made a commitment we are bound to whatever we decided to do. For example, remember Joshua of Nun, Moshe's replacement, a small ban of emissaries approached him claiming to be from a far off land that wanted to come into a peace agreement with Yisrael, because it appeared, they were truly from afar Joshua of Nun joined with them in a vow of peace, and later found that they were from Canaan and deceived Yisrael, so they would not be destroyed. Elohim watched all this happen and never did anything because Josshua and the elders never consulted him in this matter. He already had given them instructions to destroy all the inhabitants of the land and because of their indiscretion, they were forced to disobey Elohim and allow Canaan to live.

When we petition Elohim or consult him on a matter, don't expect him to speak with a great voice from heaven, he will answer our prayers and petitions if were walking righteously and doing what were supposed to do using the sons of Adam. We must always approach YAH and all situations in humility and meekness, as the scripture says humility always comes before honor, and pride before a fall.

    You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures. (James 4:3 RNWEB)

If we ask for something that no one will be edified by, and Elohim won't be glorified in it, were asking after our own lust, and it will end up being a blaspheme before him. The lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life are the three most common sins that befall man.

    You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with Elohim? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously"? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "ELOHIM RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." Humility before honor.

    Be subject therefore to Elohim. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to Elohim, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of YAH, and he will exalt you. (James 4:7-10 RNWEB)

This is all about humility, we can't offer prayers and petitions before Elohim with an arrogant, repugnant, proud look, and character. We must be walking righteously before him by keeping his laws ordinances and commandments, and making sure we have reconciled any problem relationships with a brother or sister.

    Don't speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another? (James 4:11-12 RNWEB)

We can't speak reproach against a brother or sister, this type of gossip and maliciousness puts us at odds with Elohim. It's not our job to be a judge of the law, we are to be doers of the law. According to the law if we see our brother sin, we go to him and point out his error, we don't go to our neighbor and talk to him about it. For example, if a brother is hungry we should feed him, we don't say you need to get a job. This is not our place, were just told to feed them. Our prayers and petitions will be abominations before Elohim if we break his laws.

    When you have made an end of tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the foreigner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within your gates, and be filled. (Deuteronomy 26:12 RNWEB)

This scripture shows that it is YAH's will that everyone should be fed.

    You shall say before YAH your Elohim, I have put away the holy things out of my house, and also have given them to the Levite, and to the foreigner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all your commandment which you have commanded me: I have not transgressed any of your commandments, neither have I forgotten them: I have not eaten of it in my mourning, neither have I put away of it, being unclean, nor given of it for the dead: I have listened to the voice of YAH my Elohim; I have done according to all that you have commanded me. Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Yisra'el, and the ground which you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey. (Deuteronomy 26:13-15 RNWEB)

This is what Yisrael had to do every third year because they were not able to offer this prayer of supplication to Elohim in an insincere and deceitful manner, they would have had to perform this. Provisions were made for people that truly could not do for themselves.

    Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let's go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit." Whereas you don't know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. (James 4:13-14 RNWEB)

We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, or even in the next hour, the fact is the same state of mind and character, we perish with is the same state of mind and character that we are resurrected with. So, is your current character and demeanor what you want to be judged by? We are not promised even another minute so now is the time to turn and walk in righteousness, sadly a well said prayer will not save us, were judged by our works, the fruit we produce. Now is the time to focus on our spiritual development, make the changes and modifications necessary to walk in righteousness. Salvation is something we must work toward!

    For you ought to say, "If YAH wills, we will both live, and do this or that." But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil. TO HIM THEREFORE WHO KNOWS TO DO GOOD, AND DOESN'T DO IT, TO HIM IT IS SIN. (James 4:15-17 RNWEB)
    Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and remain in his love. (John 15:9-10 RNWEB)

Yahshua kept the Fathers commandments, which are the same commandments he taught. Remember, Yahshua said to the Pharisees and Sadducees, which one of you convicts me of sin, open the Torah and show me my trespass. Everyone of us who walks in the covenant needs to have this mindset before we pray a petition to Elohim. We need to be humble enough to bear the scrutiny of the word and our brothers and sisters to correct and error or trespass, so we can be in right standing with Elohim.

    and WHATEVER WE ASK, WE RECEIVE FROM HIM, BECAUSE WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS AND DO THE THINGS THAT ARE PLEASING IN HIS SIGHT. (1 John 3:22 RNWEB)

Elohim expects us to have reasonable petitions, for example, he doesn't expect us to ask for a home on the moon. Our petitions need to be made with intelligence and a sense of responsibility and maturity in our prayers. If we are keeping his commandments and doing what's pleasing in his sight, we won't ask for foolish things, he does not hear our prayer if we do.

    Yet have you respect to the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, YAH my Elohim, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you; that your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place where you have said that you would put your name; to listen to the prayer which your servant shall pray toward this place. Listen to the petitions of your servant, and of your people Yisra'el, when they shall pray toward this place: yes, hear from your dwelling place, even from heaven; and when you hear, forgive. (2 Chronicles 6:19-21 RNWEB)
    If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath is laid on him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swears before your altar in this house; then hear from heaven, and do, and judge your servants, bringing retribution to the wicked, to bring his way on his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. If your people Yisra'el be struck down before the enemy, because they have sinned against you, and shall turn again and confess your name, and pray and make supplication before you in this house; then hear from heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Yisra'el, and bring them again to the land which you gave to them and to their fathers. When the sky is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against you; IF THEY PRAY TOWARD THIS PLACE, AND CONFESS YOUR NAME, AND TURN FROM THEIR SIN, when you do afflict them: (2 Chronicles 6:22-26 RNWEB)

When we pray we must do it with a repentant and remorseful heart.

    For reverent sorrow works repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world works death. (2 Corinthians 7:10 RNWEB)

Reverent sorrow leads to repentance, however the sorrow of the world leads to death, this is because it's insincere. When speaking of reverent sorrow, were talking about humility and a broken spirit. For example, David when he defiled himself with Bethsheba and Elohim's judgment came against the child that was formed in the ungodly union, there was nothing David could do, even though he lamented, fasted, and prayed in humility and sincerity for a week the child still died. Elohim had already passed judgment and made up his mind on the matter. All our prayers are not going to be answered, we need to look at our trespasses, attitude, and conduct, we also need to do a strong introspective analysis of ourselves, of who, what, and where we are and what's our motivation in light of the law. Elohim knows exactly who we are, and we need to see what he sees.

    Peter and Yochanan were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. (Acts 3:1 RNWEB)

King David had started a trend of praying three times per day when he wrote in Psalms, morning, noon, and evening, I will praise you. The times of prayer traditionally were the third, sixth, and ninth hour, these are not commanded in the law, we can pray at anytime and there is no set place to pray. Prayer is a unilateral discussion with Elohim, where we petition, lament, praise, or give thanks.

    The man knew Chavah his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Kayin, and said, "I have gotten a man with YAH's help." Again she gave birth, to Kayin's brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Kayin was a tiller of the ground. As time passed, it happened that Kayin brought an offering to YAH from the fruit of the ground. Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat of it. YAH respected Abel and his offering, (Genesis 4:1-4 RNWEB)

Abel brought the best of his flock for an offering, and though Kayin brought of his crop it does not say it was the best. What we need to see here is the difference in attitude, Abel gave his very best which goes directly to his thoughts and feelings about Elohim, he wanted to please him. Kayin brought an offering with a different attitude, perhaps he didn't bring his best because he felt it was going to be burned up anyway. This attitude is a reproach to YAH, so we must be very careful never to become complacent, we must always be very critical of our actions and attitude.

    but he didn't respect Kayin and his offering. Kayin was very angry, and the expression on his face fell. YAH said to Kayin, "Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen? (Genesis 4:5-6 RNWEB)

Kayin is offering a gift to Elohim, remember what Yahshua said, before you offer your gift in the temple, if you have an unsettled issue with a brother or sister, resolve that problem before you offer your gift. Kayin is upset because he offered a gift that was not accepted, and the spirit of Elohim said, Kayin if you do well shall you not be accepted? We cannot offer anything to Elohim with an insincere and impure heart.

    If you do well, will it not be lifted up? If you don't do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it." (Genesis 4:7 RNWEB)

Lets see why Elohim rejected Kayin's offering.

    Kayin said to Abel, his brother, "Let's go into the field." It happened when they were in the field, that Kayin rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him. (Genesis 4:8 RNWEB)

A mans work is precipitated from his emotions and passions, which comes from the things he thinks about. Kayin had to have murderous intents in his mind before this occurred.

    YAH said to Kayin, "Where is Abel, your brother?" He said, "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?" (Genesis 4:9 RNWEB)

Kayin is a murderer, liar, and now he's acting arrogantly toward Elohim. It was because of these inward feelings, thoughts and intentions that his offering was not accepted. Kayin's passion was not aligned with Elohim's code of ethics.

    Run you back and forth through the streets of Yerushalayim, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places of it, if you can find a man, if there are any who does justly, who seeks truth; and I will pardon her. Though they say, As YAH lives; surely they swear falsely. O YAH, don't your eyes look on truth? you have stricken them, but they were not grieved; you have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. Then I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish; for they don't know the way of YAH, nor the law of their Elohim: I will get me to the great men, and will speak to them; for they know the way of YAH, and the law of their Elohim. But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds. Therefore a lion out of the forest shall kill them, a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them, a leopard shall watch against their cities; everyone who goes out there shall be torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, [and] their backsliding is increased. How can I pardon you? your children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no elohims: when I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes' houses. (Jeremiah 5:1-7 RNWEB)
    They were as fed horses roaming at large; everyone neighed after his neighbor's wife. Shall I not visit for these things? says YAH; and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Go up on her walls, and destroy; but don't make a full end: take away her branches; for they are not YAH's. For the house of Yisra'el and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, says YAH. They have denied YAH, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come on us; neither shall we see sword nor famine: and the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done to them. Therefore thus says YAH, the Elohim Tzeva'ot, Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far, house of Yisra'el, says YAH: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don't know, neither understand what they say. Their quiver is an open tomb, they are all mighty men. They shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, [which] your sons and your daughters should eat; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; they shall beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword. But even in those days, says YAH, I will not make a full end with you. It shall happen, when you shall say, Why has YAH our Elohim done all these things to us? then shall you say to them, Like as you have forsaken me, and served foreign elohims in your land, so shall you serve strangers in a land that is not yours. Declare you this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, Hear now this, foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and don't see; who have ears, and don't hear: don't you fear me? says YAH: won't you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can't pass it? and though the waves of it toss themselves, yet they can't prevail; though they roar, yet they can't pass over it. But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear YAH our Elohim, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season; who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you. (Jeremiah 5:8-25 RNWEB)

Yisrael had developed a character contrary to the code of ethics that Elohim set forth. They wondered why their prayers were not being heard, however they only had to look at what they had become. We need to learn from what happened to Yisrael, and constantly do a self analysis, asking ourselves if we are truly walking in the covenant or do we pick and choose those things that we do and don't adhere to?

    For among my people are found wicked men: they watch, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they have become great, and grew rich. They are grew fat, they shine: yes, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they don't plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and the right of the needy they don't judge. (Jeremiah 5:26-28 RNWEB)

These people are wealthy, however it was not Elohim that blessed them, they continued to prosper even though they don't take care of the poor. Helel the adversary can bless his children with wealth also, he knows it promotes covetousness, greed, pride and arrogance.

    Shall I not visit for these things? says YAH; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? A WONDERFUL AND HORRIBLE THING IS HAPPEN IN THE LAND: THE PROPHETS PROPHESY FALSELY, AND THE PRIESTS BEAR RULE BY THEIR MEANS; AND MY PEOPLE LOVE TO HAVE IT SO: AND WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THE END OF IT? (Jeremiah 5:29-31 RNWEB)

The prophets spoke falsely, the priests ruled by their own means, and the people loved it, this happens in some assemblies on the Sabbath and all churches on Sunday, to what end, we see people in the same position today with Elohim as Yisrael was thousands of years ago. These are sad situations, and we must be very careful not to fall into it ourselves. The character and attributes being exhibited are abominations to Elohim and he doesn't hear the prayers of these people. We must practice his code of ethics with sincerity, with no hidden agendas, in humility and meekness. The vast majority of our prayers should be centered on giving him thanks.

    Hear the word of YAH, you rulers of Sedom! Listen to the law of our Elohim, you people of `Amorah! "What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?," says YAH. "I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. I don't delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats. When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. (Isaiah 1:10-13 RNWEB)

Elohim wrote in the law to offer oblation and incense, however the emphasis was placed on them being offered up by the priest in sincerity, incense is symbolic of the prayers ascending to Elohim. He's telling us he was not happy with the peoples offerings, he doesn't want to see them because the people have become hypocrites.

    My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, WHEN YOU MAKE MANY PRAYERS, I WILL NOT HEAR. Your hands are full of blood. (Isaiah 1:14-15 RNWEB)

We need to first change ourselves and walk in this covenant with a sincere heart and not follow the example set forth by Yisrael. We can't argue over his covenant and decide what we will and won't do.

    Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. LEARN TO DO WELL. SEEK JUSTICE. RELIEVE THE OPPRESSED. JUDGE THE FATHERLESS. PLEAD FOR THE WIDOW." (Isaiah 1:16-17 RNWEB)

Elohim is telling us exactly what we must do to walk righteously and it starts with cleansing ourselves through repentance for our foolish and lawless deeds.

    "Come now, and let us reason together," says YAH: "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. IF YOU ARE WILLING AND OBEDIENT, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of YAH has spoken it." (Isaiah 1:18-20 RNWEB)
    The word that came to Yirmeyahu from YAH, saying, Stand in the gate of YAH's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of YAH, all you of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship YAH. Thus says YAH of Armies, the Elohim of Yisra'el, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. don't you trust in lying words, saying, The temple of YAH, the temple of YAH, the temple of YAH, are these. FOR IF YOU THOROUGHLY AMEND YOUR WAYS AND YOUR DOINGS; IF YOU THOROUGHLY EXECUTE JUSTICE BETWEEN A MAN AND HIS NEIGHBOR; IF YOU DON'T OPPRESS THE FOREIGNER, THE FATHERLESS, AND THE WIDOW, AND DON'T SHED INNOCENT BLOOD IN THIS PLACE, NEITHER WALK AFTER OTHER ELOHIMS TO YOUR OWN HURT: THEN WILL I CAUSE YOU TO DWELL IN THIS PLACE, IN THE LAND THAT I GAVE TO YOUR FATHERS, FROM OF OLD EVEN FOREVERMORE. Behold, you trust in lying words, that can't profit. Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Ba`al, and walk after other elohims that you have not known, and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that you may do all these abominations? Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says YAH. But go you now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Yisra'el. Now, because you have done all these works, says YAH, and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you didn't hear; and I called you, but you didn't answer: therefore will I do to the house which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brothers, even the whole seed of Efrayim. (Jeremiah 7:1-15 RNWEB)

There were nine tribes that lived in the north that were all dispersed out of the land. Elohim did this because of the hypocrisy, lack of appreciation, lack of love, foolishness, and wickedness of their ways.

    Therefore don't you pray for this people, neither lift up a cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear you. (Jeremiah 7:16 RNWEB)

This example shows we can't pray for everyone, we should be able to tell by the fruit being produced if a brother or sister is diligently walking in righteousness.

    Thus says YAH of Armies, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat meat. For I didn't speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: (Jeremiah 7:21-22 RNWEB)

Elohim did give burnt offerings and sacrifices, however this was not the emphases, it wasn't the operation that Elohim had given to the children of Yisrael for salvation, he gave them commandments they had to keep in order to receive salvation. The offerings and the sacrifices were given to propitiate iniquity, the breaking of the commandments he had given them to follow to receive salvation. The sacrificial system was a demonstration of YAH's mercy and grace, he gave them animals which became substitutes that died in place of those who broke the covenant.

    but this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice, and I will be your Elohim, and you shall be my people; and walk you in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you. (Jeremiah 7:23 RNWEB)
    The word that came to Yirmeyahu from YAH, saying, Hear you the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim; and say you to them, Thus says YAH, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Cursed be the man who doesn't hear the words of this covenant, which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall you be my people, and I will be your Elohim; that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amein, YAH. YAH said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Yerushalayim, saying, Hear you the words of this covenant, and do them. For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice. Yet they didn't obey, nor turn their ear, but walked everyone in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn't do them. YAH said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Yerushalayim. They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other elohims to serve them: the house of Yisra'el and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers. Therefore thus says YAH, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them. Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim go and cry to the elohims to which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble. For according to the number of your cities are your elohims, Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Yerushalayim have you set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Ba`al. THEREFORE DON'T YOU PRAY FOR THIS PEOPLE, NEITHER LIFT UP CRY NOR PRAYER FOR THEM; FOR I WILL NOT HEAR THEM IN THE TIME THAT THEY CRY TO ME BECAUSE OF THEIR TROUBLE. (Jeremiah 11:1-14 RNWEB)

We need to be careful who were praying for, we may find ourselves in a situation where were striving against Elohim.

    The word of YAH that came to Yirmeyahu concerning the drought. Judah mourns, and the gates of it languish, they sit in black on the ground; and the cry of Yerushalayim is gone up. Their nobles send their little ones to the waters: they come to the cisterns, and find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads. Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed, they cover their heads. Yes, the hind also in the field calves, and forsakes [her young], because there is no grass. The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage. Though our iniquities testify against us, work you for your name's sake, YAH; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you. You hope of Yisra'el, the Savior of it in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night? (Jeremiah 14:1-8 RNWEB)

People are dropping dead all around Jeremiah, Elohim is afflicting everyone because they chose not to stand up for righteousness and do what was right according to the law.

    Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can't save? yet you, YAH, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; don't leave us. Thus says YAH to this people, Even so have they loved to wander; they have not refrained their feet: therefore YAH does not accept them; now he will remember their lawlessness, and visit their sins. YAH said to me, DON'T PRAY FOR THIS PEOPLE FOR [THEIR] GOOD. When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence. (Jeremiah 14:9-12 RNWEB)
    It happened in those days, that the Pelishtim gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Yisra'el. Akhish said to David, Know you assuredly, that you shall go out with me in the army, you and your men. David said to Akhish, Therefore you shall know what your servant will do. Akhish said to David, Therefore will I make you keeper of my head for ever. Now Shemu'el was dead, and all Yisra'el had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Shaul had put away those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. The Pelishtim gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem: and Shaul gathered all Yisra'el together, and they encamped in Gilboa. When Shaul saw the army of the Pelishtim, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly. When Shaul inquired of the Master, YAH didn't answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. King Shaul was disobedient, he did things the way he wanted, not the way he was instructed by Elohim.

The Wicked That Humbled Themselves

    It happened, when Ach'av heard that Navot was dead, that Ach'av rose up to go down to the vineyard of Navot the Yizre`eli, to take possession of it. The word of YAH came to Eliyahu the Tishbi, saying, Arise, go down to meet Ach'av king of Yisra'el, who dwells in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Navot, where he is gone down to take possession of it. You shall speak to him, saying, Thus says YAH, Have you killed and also taken possession? You shall speak to him, saying, Thus says YAH, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Navot shall dogs lick your blood, even yours. Ach'av said to Eliyahu, Have you found me, my enemy? He answered, I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the sight of YAH. Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ach'av every boy, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Yisra'el: and I will make your house like the house of Yarov`am the son of Nevat, and like the house of Ba`sha the son of Achiyah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Yisra'el to sin. Of Izevel also spoke YAH, saying, The dogs shall eat Izevel by the rampart of Yizre`el. Him who dies of Ach'av in the city the dogs shall eat; and him who dies in the field shall the birds of the sky eat. (But there was none like Ach'av, who did sell himself to do that which was evil in the sight of YAH, whom Izevel his wife stirred up. He did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amori did, whom YAH cast out before the children of Yisra'el.) It happened, when Ach'av heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. THE WORD OF YAH CAME TO ELIYAHU THE TISHBI, SAYING, SEE YOU HOW ACH'AV HUMBLES HIMSELF BEFORE ME? BECAUSE HE HUMBLES HIMSELF BEFORE ME, I WILL NOT BRING THE EVIL IN HIS DAYS; BUT IN HIS SON'S DAYS WILL I BRING THE EVIL ON HIS HOUSE. (1 Kings 21:16-29 RNWEB)

Were about to look at Hosea, one of the kings of Yisrael, the people have been worshipping demons, and they even changed the temple to worship Balaam. Elohim is about to pass judgment and bring calamities among the people who had entered apostasy.

    So Chilkiyah, and they whom the king [had commanded], went to Chuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhat, the son of Chasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Yerushalayim in the second quarter;) and they spoke to her to that effect. She said to them, Thus says YAH, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Tell you the man who sent you to me, Thus says YAH, Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on the inhabitants of it, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah. Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other elohims, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched. But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of YAH, thus shall you tell him, Thus says YAH, the Elohim of Yisra'el: AS TOUCHING THE WORDS WHICH YOU HAVE HEARD, BECAUSE YOUR HEART WAS TENDER, AND YOU DID HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE ELOHIM, WHEN YOU HEARD HIS WORDS AGAINST THIS PLACE, AND AGAINST THE INHABITANTS OF IT, AND HAVE HUMBLED YOURSELF BEFORE ME, AND HAVE TORN YOUR CLOTHES, AND WEPT BEFORE ME; I ALSO HAVE HEARD YOU, SAYS YAH. We need to humble ourselves before we offer prayers and petitions before Elohim, especially when were trying to come out of lawlessness. We should never approach him with pride or arrogance, it's only through humility and meekness that he will hear us. Many of us have made bad decisions, and these can often place us in direct opposition with Elohim. In order for us to find our way back were going to have to humble ourselves and bear all before him with true remorse, focusing ourselves on righteousness when we begin to pray and petition, it's the only way he will hear us.

    Menasheh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-five years in Yerushalayim. He did that which was evil in the sight of YAH, after the abominations of the nations whom YAH cast out before the children of Yisra'el. For he built again the high places which Chizkiyahu his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Ba`alim, and made Asherot, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them. He built altars in the house of YAH, of which YAH said, In Yerushalayim shall my name be forever. He built altars for all the army of the sky in the two courts of the house of YAH. He also made his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom; and he practiced sorcery, and used enchantments, and practiced sorcery, and dealt with those who had familiar spirits, and with wizards: he worked much evil in the sight of YAH, to provoke him to anger. He set the engraved image of the idol, which he had made, in the house of Elohim, of which Elohim said to David and to Shlomo his son, In this house, and in Yerushalayim, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Yisra'el, will I put my name forever: neither will I any more remove the foot of Yisra'el from off the land which I have appointed for your fathers, if only they will observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the law and the statutes and the ordinances [given] by Moshe. Menasheh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, so that they did evil more than did the nations whom YAH destroyed before the children of Yisra'el. YAH spoke to Menasheh, and to his people; but they gave no heed. Therefore YAH brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Ashur, who took Menasheh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babel. WHEN HE WAS IN DISTRESS, HE BEGGED YAH HIS ELOHIM, AND HUMBLED HIMSELF GREATLY BEFORE THE ELOHIM OF HIS FATHERS. HE PRAYED TO HIM; AND HE WAS ENTREATED OF HIM, AND HEARD HIS SUPPLICATION, AND BROUGHT HIM AGAIN TO YERUSHALAYIM INTO HIS KINGDOM. THEN MENASHEH KNEW THAT YAH HE WAS ELOHIM. NOW AFTER THIS HE BUILT AN OUTER WALL TO THE CITY OF DAVID, ON THE WEST SIDE OF GICHON, IN THE VALLEY, EVEN TO THE ENTRANCE AT THE FISH GATE; AND HE COMPASSED `OFEL ABOUT [WITH IT], AND RAISED IT UP TO A VERY GREAT HEIGHT: AND HE PUT VALIANT CAPTAINS IN ALL THE FORTIFIED CITIES OF JUDAH. HE TOOK AWAY THE FOREIGN ELOHIMS, AND THE IDOL OUT OF THE HOUSE OF YAH, AND ALL THE ALTARS THAT HE HAD BUILT IN THE MOUNTAIN OF THE HOUSE OF YAH, AND IN YERUSHALAYIM, AND CAST THEM OUT OF THE CITY. Menasheh is undoing everything he established that was defiled and wicked to Elohim. He prayed before him with humility while submitting himself wholly, and Elohim heard him. He let go of his pride, arrogance, the apostasy he led the people into, and apologized with deep remorse before YAH Elohim.

    He built up the altar of YAH, and offered thereon sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving, and commanded Judah to serve YAH, the Elohim of Yisra'el. Nevertheless the people sacrificed still in the high places, but only to YAH their Elohim. Now the rest of the acts of Menasheh, and his prayer to his Elohim, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of YAH, the Elohim of Yisra'el, behold, they are written among the acts of the kings of Yisra'el. His prayer also, and how [Elohim] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the engraved images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai. So Menasheh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his place. (2 Chronicles 33:16-20 RNWEB)

Conclusion

Walking in the Covenant

In order to have our prayers answered we must enter into covenant with Elohim by being purified in the name of Yahshua the Anointed. Then we must learn and hold true to all his laws, statutes and expectations. Lets look at what Elohim's expectations are from us.

    Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as YAH my Elohim commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what great nation is there, that has a elohim so near to them, as YAH our Elohim is whenever we call on him? What great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? (Deuteronomy 4:5-8 RNWEB)
    Now, Yisra'el, what does YAH your Elohim require of you, but to fear YAH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve YAH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul, to keep the commandments of YAH, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good? (Deuteronomy 10:12-13 RNWEB)

Elohim has requirements, we must fear him, walk in all his ways, love him and serve him with all our mind and emotions, and keep all of his commandments and statutes.

    Moshe came and told the people all the words of YAH, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which YAH has spoken will we do." (Exodus 24:3 RNWEB)

For Elohim to take Yisrael as his wife, she must keep all the precepts and laws outlined in the contract. When we are purified in the name of Yahshua the Anointed were entering the very same covenant with YAH Elohim, and committing to do all that is written.

    Moshe wrote all the words of YAH, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Yisra'el. He sent young men of the children of Yisra'el, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to YAH. Moshe took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, "All that YAH has spoken will we do, and be obedient." Moshe took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which YAH has made with you concerning all these words." (Exodus 24:4-8 RNWEB)

The book of the covenant refers to the first five books of the bible, the blood that sealed the covenant between Elohim and Yisrael was from animals, we have been sealed today by the blood of Yahshua at our purification.

We need to consistently look at ourselves in the light of Elohim's law and make sure were keeping it, there is no hypocrisy, and we are not picking and choosing what we will and won't do. If we see something wrong, we must immediately address it and fix the problem. Until this is taking care of, we cannot even think about praying to Elohim, unless it's specifically because we need his assistance to help bring us back in line with the covenant.

Praying For Others

When we come before Elohim, we can't pray for everyone, we must carefully discern who we should and shouldn't pray for.

    If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and Elohim will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. THERE IS A SIN LEADING TO DEATH. I DON'T SAY THAT HE SHOULD MAKE A REQUEST CONCERNING THIS. (1 John 5:16 RNWEB)
    I pray for them. I DON'T PRAY FOR THE WORLD, but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. (John 17:9 RNWEB)

We pray for those who are sincere, but ignorant of YAH's processes that he would open their eyes, after we have identified there intent and measured their sincerity.

    Elisha prayed, and said, YAH, Please open his eyes, that he may see. YAH opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. (2 Kings 6:17 RNWEB)

As an example lets look at Abraham who interceded for Lot and his family and the righteous within Sodom.

    Abraham drew near, and said, "Will you consume the righteous with the wicked? (Genesis 18:23 RNWEB)

He did not pray for everyone, just those who were righteous, those living unrighteously had already been judged.

The Lost

We pray that YAH opens their eyes if they are sincere. We pray for those who do not know YAH according to his precepts as we do, because they seek his righteousness through the law in ignorance. We pray for Christians who seek righteousness, not those who have rejected it.

    For when Gentiles who don't have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves. (Romans 2:14 RNWEB)

Our family is the ones who seek righteousness and those who practice it, it doesn't matter what their religious affiliation is.

    Yahshua said to him, "Don't forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us." (Luke 9:50 RNWEB)

Once the truth is revealed in its entirety, the true test of spiritual commitment and excellence is revealed. This becomes the determining factor as to whether we continue to petition or pray on behalf of our friends who have zeal but not according to knowledge.

    Pray for us, for we are persuaded that we have a good conscience, desiring to live honorably in all things. (Hebrews 13:18 RNWEB)

Many people approach YAH in ignorance, however he hears them because their heart is pure, conscience clean and intent genuine, although they are children of disobedience.

Leaders and Governments

We pray for governments of all nations because they are the one's who lead us and are responsible for our safety and peace. We pray for them because many of them try to do well according to the precepts of righteousness based on what little righteousness they know as mentioned earlier with respect to the gentiles. The purpose of our prayer for them is for safety and peace because we know that the governments that they rule are all owned by Satan. We as disciples of YAH and servants through the covenant want to live a peaceful life and raise our families in peace and enjoy our liberties in Elohim. This is very difficult to do when our political leaders are trying to conquer the world, oppress citizens and subjugate us in wickedness, so we pray for them, not despise them.

    Yet in like manner these also in their dreaming defile the flesh, despise authority, and slander celestial beings. (Jude 1:8 RNWEB)
    but chiefly those who walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries; (2 Peter 2:10 RNWEB)
    Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from Elohim, and those who exist are ordained by Elohim. Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of Elohim; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same, for he is a servant of Elohim to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of Elohim, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake. For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of Elohim's service, attending continually on this very thing. Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor. (Romans 13:1-7 RNWEB)

Shaul also writes to Timothy, but look at what the emphasis is on.

    I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; THAT WE MAY LEAD A TRANQUIL AND QUIET LIFE IN ALL OBEDIENCE AND REVERENCE. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of Elohim our Savior; who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4 RNWEB)

We pray for those who are ignorant and need to have their eyes open to experience YAH's power and glory if they are seeking, as well as those who sin inadvertently or presumptuously without defiant intent, but through the infirmities of the mind. We pray for those who rule over us so that we may live without fear of instability, tribulation and turmoil brought about by their wickedness. We need to try to have an understanding of the people we're dealing with at all times before we offer a petition for them before Elohim.
