Understanding The New Covenant III

In this study series, we will examine the purpose and administration of the New Covenant in addition to understanding the reason for it. We will also review the operation of the sacrificial laws to understand their application in the new testament and address several questions often asked by bible students.

  • What is the New Covenant?
  • Has the Old Covenant been completely done away with?
  • What is the purpose of the New Covenant?
  • Has the New Covenant removed us from the laws of Elohim?
  • What does the Old Covenant consist of, and represent?
  • What was the purpose of the Levitical order?
  • How were the Levites compensated?
  • Why does the New Covenant state that Elohim will write his laws in our heart and mind?
  • What is the process to write Elohim's laws in our heart and mind?

We will continue to examine the operation of the third law, known as the sacrificial laws to understand their application in the new testament.

To understand the new covenant we must understand the old covenant. We have appropriately started with the sacrificial ordinances because they were the propitiator for iniquity given in the old testament which opens the door for the grace we have received in the new covenant age, which is Yahshua.

We have covered five sacrificial offerings:

  1. Burnt offering - For wholly giving yourself YAH, and it signifies full dedication and commitment to Elohim. It's the highest sin offering and can be offered at anytime.
  2. Grain offering - For thanksgiving, mandated to be done three times per year, on Unleavened bread, Pentecost and Tabernacles, though they could be offered as often as desired.
  3. Peace offering - For reconciliation and establishing peace.
  4. Sin offering - For disobedience to the laws of Elohim intentionally, in ignorance, or weakness.
  5. Trespass offerings - For trespasses against YAH in the holy things and by being deceitful to our neighbor.

YAH has expressed his great love for us by providing a way of reconciliation. In the old testament when they transgressed his ordinances, as long as they were repentant and remorseful, or performed the sin in complete ignorance, a sacrifice could be brought and YAH would forgive and absolve them of the debt. If they acknowledged a sin it must be confessed with a repentant heart, then the reconciliation process can be entered into. Blood needed to be shed for the sin, the blood of an animal was being given in exchange for the blood of the transgressor. These processes are relevant in the new testament because we see the very same offerings presented in association with Yahshua's sacrifice. To understand the new testament process we must understand the original process.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, Command the children of Yisra’el, and tell them, My offering, my food for my offerings made by fire, of a sweet savor to me, shall you observe to offer to me IN THEIR DUE SEASON. (Numbers 28:1-2 RNEB)

Due season in Hebrew is the word "moed" which means appointed time or meeting. There was a specific day that these things had to occur, it couldn't be just anytime.

You shall tell them, This is the offering made by fire which you shall offer to YAH: male lambs a year old without blemish, two day by day, for a continual burnt offering. The one lamb shall you offer in the morning, and the other lamb shall you offer at even; and the tenth part of an efah of fine flour for a meal offering, mixed with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil. It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in Mount Sinai for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire to YAH. The drink offering of it shall be the fourth part of a hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shall you pour out a drink offering of strong drink to YAH. The other lamb shall you offer at even: as the meal offering of the morning, and as the drink offering of it, you shall offer it, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to YAH. On the day of Sabbath two male lambs a year old without blemish, and two tenth parts [of an efah] of fine flour for a meal offering, mixed with oil, and the drink offering of it: this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the continual burnt offering, and the drink offering of it. (Numbers 28:3-10 RNEB)

The offerings were doubled up on the Sabbath, there was the continual burnt offering, which was the morning and evening oblation, then they offered up two more lambs.

In the beginnings of your months you shall offer a burnt offering to YAH: two young bulls, and one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish; and three tenth parts [of an efah] of fine flour for a meal offering, mixed with oil, for each bull; and two tenth parts of fine flour for a meal offering, mixed with oil, for the one ram; and a tenth part of fine flour mixed with oil for a meal offering to every lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet savor, an offering made by fire to YAH. Their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine for a bull, and the third part of a hin for the ram, and the fourth part of a hin for a lamb: this is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year. One male goat for a sin offering to YAH; it shall be offered besides the continual burnt offering, and the drink offering of it. (Numbers 28:11-15 RNEB)

There are two offerings being mandated, a burnt offering and sin offering. The burnt offering had to be completely burnt up, and the sin offering that the priests were allowed to eat.

In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, is YAH’s Passover. On the fifteenth day of this month shall be a feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten. In the first day shall be a holy convocation: you shall do no servile work; but you shall offer an offering made by fire, a burnt offering to YAH: two young bulls, and one ram, and seven male lambs a year old; they shall be to you without blemish; and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three tenth parts shall you offer for a bull, and two tenth parts for the ram; a tenth part shall you offer for every lamb of the seven lambs; and one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you. You shall offer these besides the burnt offering of the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering. After this manner you shall offer daily, for seven days, the food of the offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to YAH: it shall be offered besides the continual burnt offering, and the drink offering of it. (Numbers 28:16-24 RNEB)

The continual burnt offering known as the morning and evening oblation were burnt the whole day, the smoke ascended, which was symbolic of that sacrifice. Then the ashes were removed and the evening oblation started, there was twenty four hour coverage for iniquity, non stop, every day.

On the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation: you shall do no servile work. Also in the day of the first fruits, when you offer a new meal offering to YAH in your [feast of] weeks, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no servile work; but you shall offer a burnt offering for a sweet savor to YAH: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old; and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenth parts for each bull, two tenth parts for the one ram, a tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs; one male goat, to make atonement for you. Besides the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, you shall offer them (they shall be to you without blemish), and their drink offerings. (Numbers 28:25-31 RNEB)
In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing of trumpets to you. You shall offer a burnt offering for a sweet savor to YAH: one young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish; and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenth parts for the bull, two tenth parts for the ram, and one tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs; and one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you; besides the burnt offering of the new moon, and the meal offering of it, and the continual burnt offering and the meal offering of it, and their drink offerings, according to their ordinance, for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire to YAH. On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; and you shall afflict your souls: you shall do no manner of work; but you shall offer a burnt offering to YAH for a sweet savor: one young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old; they shall be to you without blemish; and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenth parts for the bull, two tenth parts for the one ram, a tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs: one male goat for a sin offering; besides the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, and their drink offerings. On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no servile work, and you shall keep a feast to YAH seven days: (Numbers 29:1-12 RNEB)

Beside the burnt offerings, in Numbers 28:22, 28:30, 29:5 and 29:11 we see sin offerings being offered. Therefore, on the holy days there are burnt and sin offerings being offered up, so when the Christian community says we're not supposed to keep these days because Yahshua fulfilled them, we have to ask how the anointed fulfill the Sabbath, Passover, Unleavened bread, Pentecost, Trumpets, Tabernacles, and Atonement, because all these days, the appointed times were mandated by Elohim as an assembly to the community to worship him. During all these times the priests were offering up burnt offerings and sin offerings and will see that it was these offerings that Yahshua fulfilled as a part of the holy days. We still have to come together as a congregation because YAH told us his Sabbaths are a sign between us, however the sacrificial ordinances have been fulfilled and removed by Yahshua for this age.

and you shall offer a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to YAH; thirteen young bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old; they shall be without blemish; and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenth parts for every bull of the thirteen bulls, two tenth parts for each ram of the two rams, and a tenth part for every lamb of the fourteen lambs; and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, the meal offering of it, and the drink offering of it. On the second day [you shall offer] twelve young bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish; and their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; and one male goat for a sin offering; besides the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, and their drink offerings. On the third day eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish; and their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; and one male goat for a sin offering; besides the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, and the drink offering of it. On the fourth day ten bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish; their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; and one male goat for a sin offering; besides the continual burnt offering, the meal offering of it, and the drink offering of it. On the fifth day nine bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish; and their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, and the drink offering of it. On the sixth day eight bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish; and their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; and one male goat for a sin offering; besides the continual burnt offering, the meal offering of it, and the drink offerings of it. On the seventh day seven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish; and their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; and one male goat for a sin offering; besides the continual burnt offering, the meal offering of it, and the drink offering of it. (Numbers 29:14-34 RNEB)

Each day there was a sin offering beside the continual burnt offering. They offered a burnt offering in the morning and again in the evening, which was known as the morning and evening oblation. This just shows us how much YAH hates sins and loves his children. We all need to comprehend this to properly understand the new testament.

On the eighth day you shall have a solemn assembly: you shall do no servile work; but you shall offer a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to YAH: one bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish; their meal offering and their drink offerings for the bull, for the ram, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the ordinance: and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, and the drink offering of it. These you shall offer to YAH in your set feasts, besides your vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meal offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings. Moshe told the children of Yisra’el according to all that YAH commanded Moshe. (Numbers 29:35-40 RNEB)

What we have seen is YAH required daily, weekly (on the Sabbath), monthly, and appointed times sacrifices. When we read about the Holy day mandates it's providing us with instructions on what was offered for that day. For example, during the eight days of Tabernacles they had a number of offerings that had to be made, the same was the case for Passover and Unleavened bread, however what we want to point out is on each of the holy days there was always a sin offering, as well as the continual burnt offering, which is important to us because Yahshua became a whole sacrifice, and will see more details on this as we progress from Shaul's writings. Yahshua was the mirror image of all these sacrifices.

This shall be your of the most holy things, [reserved] from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every meal offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every trespass offering of theirs, which they shall render to me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons. As the most holy things shall you eat of it; every male shall eat of it: it shall be holy to you. This is your: the wave offering of their gift, even all the wave offerings of the children of Yisra’el; I have given them to you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a portion forever; everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it. (Numbers 18:9-11 RNEB)
Every male among the priests shall eat of it: it is most holy. No sin offering, of which any of the blood is brought into the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be eaten: it shall be burned with fire. (Leviticus 6:29-30 RNEB)

We will now review the second propitiation processes, these are important because we're going to see them in the new testament.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "When you take a census of the children of Yisra’el, according to those who are numbered among them, then each man shall give a ransom for his soul to YAH, when you number them; that there be no plague among them when you number them. They shall give this, everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary; (the shekel is twenty gerahs;) half a shekel for an offering to YAH. Everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the offering to YAH. The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering of YAH, to make atonement for your souls. (Exodus 30:11-15 RNEB)

Not only is YAH sacrificing animals, but at the end of the year they had to pay for their iniquity with the atonement money, half-shekel, which is the equivalent of about $6.00 today. This money was given once per year on Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. There were about one million people above the age of twenty years, so the priests received six million dollars that would be disbursed among the Levite's. This is the first revenue stream outside of the trespass of the holy things and redemption money that YAH had established to provide money for the priests. This is one of the reasons why tithing is such a strange and foreign term being in the form of money, it's not documented in the scripture anywhere. Money came in the way of trespass, redemption, and atonement monies, as well as free will offerings and vows.

You shall take the atonement money from the children of Yisra’el, and shall appoint it for the service of the tent of meeting; that it may be a memorial for the children of Yisra’el before YAH, to make atonement for your souls." (Exodus 30:16 RNEB)

This is a propitiation cycle that the new testament also deals with.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "You shall also make a basin of brass, and the base of it of brass, in which to wash. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. (Exodus 30:17-18 RNEB)

The priests had to wash before entering or going near the alter.

Aharon and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in it. When they go into the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, that they not die; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to YAH. So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they not die: and it shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his descendants throughout their generations." (Exodus 30:19-21 RNEB)

This just didn't apply to the priests, it applied to everyone in the community.

YAH spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying, This is the statute of the law which YAH has commanded, saying, Speak to the children of Yisra’el, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, in which is no blemish, [and] on which never came yoke. You shall give her to El`azar the Priest, and he shall bring her forth outside of the camp, and one shall kill her before his face: and El`azar the Priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle her blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times. One shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn: and the Priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. Then the Priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the Priest shall be unclean until the even. He who burns her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even. A MAN WHO IS CLEAN SHALL GATHER UP THE ASHES OF THE HEIFER, AND LAY THEM UP OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP IN A CLEAN PLACE; AND IT SHALL BE KEPT FOR THE CONGREGATION OF THE CHILDREN OF YISRA’EL FOR A WATER FOR IMPURITY: IT IS A SIN OFFERING. (Numbers 19:1-9 RNEB)

These were the ingredients used to make the purification [baptismal] water. There were multiple pools on the outside of the temple for cleansing. Washing in water was an act of repentance in the old testament, this was not something established in the new testament. Yochanan the purifier was a Levite, part of the priestly line, he didn't use the temple pools to perform baptism, he used the river Jordan to prepare them for the ultimate purification which is Yahshua.

Hear the word of YAH, you rulers of Sedom! Listen to the law of our Elohim, you people of `Amorah! (Isaiah 1:10 RNEB)

Sedom and Amorah had already been destroyed so who was this referring to?

"What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?," says YAH. "I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats. When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can’t bear with evil assemblies. My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow." "Come now, and let us reason together," says YAH: "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of YAH has spoken it." (Isaiah 1:11-20 RNEB)
Thus says YAH of Armies, the Elohim of Yisra’el: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat meat. For I didn’t speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: (Jeremiah 7:21-22 RNEB)

It appears, we have a contradiction concerning the sacrifices and offerings, were they given by YAH or not?

but this thing I commanded them, saying, LISTEN TO MY VOICE, AND I WILL BE YOUR ELOHIM, AND YOU SHALL BE MY PEOPLE; AND WALK YOU IN ALL THE WAY THAT I COMMAND YOU, THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU. (Jeremiah 7:23 RNEB)

The people were being told if they didn't obey, YAH would not be there Elohim. The reason YAH gave the propitiation sacrifices was to cover their iniquity, however there would not be iniquity if they were obedient. He commanded them to obey his commandments and gave them the propitiation ordinances to cover their disobedience of them. YAH's emphasis was on following the laws of holiness and the laws of human relations.

But they didn’t listen nor turn their ear, but walked in [their own] counsels [and] in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: yet they didn’t listen to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers. You shall speak all these words to them; but they will not listen to you: you shall also call to them; but they will not answer you. You shall tell them, This is the nation that has not listened to the voice of YAH their Elohim, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth. (Jeremiah 7:24-28 RNEB)
For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. THE SACRIFICES OF ELOHIM ARE A BROKEN SPIRIT. A BROKEN AND CONTRITE HEART, O ELOHIM, YOU WILL NOT DESPISE. Do well in your good pleasure to Tziyon. Build the walls of Yerushalayim. Then you will delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, in burnt offerings and in whole burnt offerings. Then they will offer bulls on your altar. (Psalms 51:16-19 RNEB)

The people were bringing sacrifices to YAH with the wrong attitude, he wanted them to humble themselves and approach the offering with a broken and contrite spirit.

So far we have covered the purpose and the operation of the propitiation order of sacrifices, we transitioned to the atonement monies that one had to pay if they were twenty years or older. We talked about washings, and three forms of propitiation and coverings for sin, which was the reconciling and removal of iniquity. Then we saw how YAH said he was not pleased with their sacrifices because they were vain, futile, and worthless. To get a better understanding of this, we turned to Jeremiah who said prophetically that YAH did not command them in burnt offerings, sacrifices and oblations, however we know that he did, so we need to properly contextualize the scripture to understand that he's actually saying that it's more important that they are obedient to the Holiness and Morality laws which are the laws that cover social interaction and how to properly serve Elohim. Consequently, what we understand from this is that obedience is more important than sacrifice. The ceremonial system which was given to reconcile Man from disobedience against the holiness and morality laws were made worthless on account of habitual sin that had developed within the community, they were doing sacrifices and YAH called it murder, because they were killing animals to cover their sin without a repentant or remorseful heart.

These were all parts of the process to get to the new testament, we need to fully appreciate this process in order to be able to understand the new testament. The new covenant was not mentioned in the new testament, it was foretold in the old testament in Jeremiah 31:31-36.

Thus says YAH of Armies, the Elohim of Yisra’el: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat meat. For I didn’t speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: but this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice, and I will be your Elohim, and you shall be my people; and WALK YOU IN ALL THE WAY THAT I COMMAND YOU, THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU. (Jeremiah 7:21-23 RNEB)

Were told to walk in the ways he commanded so things will go well, however many people have problems doing this.

If we hate the messenger or prophet, it means we hate the one who sent the message. This is why Yahshua said if you don't receive me, you don’t receive the father for I come in his name.

The Importance of Obedience

Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering. (Psalms 40:6 RNEB)

YAH is not interested in sacrifices as a replacement for being an obedient servant, he gave us two points within the law, Holiness and Morality, keeping them shows him that we love and serve him. This is why sacrifices are not mentioned in the ten commandments. The first four commandments give us instructions for having a relationship with Elohim, the last six provide instructions on how we should interact with one another. It's important we realize that our relationships with each other directly affects our relationship with Elohim. For example, if we trespass against a brother or sister it is the same as trespassing against Elohim. The ones who follow the commandments are our brothers and sisters.

For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. (Psalms 51:16 RNEB)

YAH is not interested in sacrifices, he gave them to keep us alive, however if we walk completely obedient to the law the sacrifices would not be necessary.

(Psalms 51:17-19 RNEB)

YAH is looking for people with humble spirits who are open to correction, those that want to learn, grow, and are subject to change and spiritual development. Shlomo told us correction and reproof was the process of life, which will happen because we don't know everything. Our desire should be to achieve a level of excellence that's acceptable to YAH, so we can be disciplined enough to achieve perfection.

For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and THE KNOWLEDGE OF ELOHIM MORE THAN BURNT OFFERINGS. But they, like Adam, have broken the covenant. They were unfaithful to me, there. (Hosea 6:6-7 RNEB)

YAH told us we must obtain knowledge of him, which means we must study, it will take time, but we cannot serve him if we don't know him.

We need to understand why he gave all these sacrifices, because it will help us understand the foundation and purpose of the new testament.

How shall I come before YAH, and bow myself before the exalted Elohim? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will YAH be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does YAH require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your Elohim? (Micah 6:6-8 RNEB)

The purpose of sacrificing was to cover iniquity and convict the transgressor of guilt, it was supposed to insight an emotional response to make them grievous about the animals that died on their behalf.

Shemu’el said, Has YAH as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of YAH? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22 RNEB)

Micah, Hosea, David, Jeremiah, and Isaiah have all said to obey is better than sacrifice. So, we have five prophets telling us that obeying the laws of holiness and morality is much more important than the sacrificial laws to Elohim. If we walk in obedient to the first two, we wouldn't require a sacrifice.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and wickedness. Because you have rejected the word of YAH, he has also rejected you from being king. (1 Samuel 15:23 RNEB)

Rebellion is equivalent to the sin of witchcraft in its severity. Witches were killed! He continued and said stubbornness is equivalent to the sin of idolatry which also bears a death sentence. We need to understand the propitiation process and what Elohim was placing emphases on. The emphasis is on obedience to him, and being kind and affectionate toward one another. The emphases was never on the sacrifices, they were given to cover the iniquity that comes from not being obedient to the first two laws. YAH gave the sacrificial system, however if sin was done in a defiant or presumptuous manner the animal sacrifice wouldn't be accepted, there would be no substitute available to die for the sinner, which ultimately means death.

The word of YAH that came to Hoshea the son of Be’eri, in the days of `Uzziyah, Yotam, Achaz, and Chizkiyahu, kings of Judah, and in the days of Yarov`am the son of Yo’ash, king of Yisra’el. When YAH spoke at the first by Hoshea, YAH said to Hoshea, "Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking YAH." (Hosea 1:1-2 RNEB)

YAH by his prophet told them to marry whores and have children with whores, this is how he was showing Yisrael that as his wife, they had become whores. They were no longer serving him, they had forsaken their relationship with YAH to join with another.

So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Divlayim; and she conceived, and bore him a son. YAH said to him, "Call his name Yizre`el; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Yizre`el on the house of Yehu, and will cause the kingdom of the house of Yisra’el to cease. (Hosea 1:3-4 RNEB)

This prophecy is against the house of Yisrael, it was spoken in 785 BC, just 60 years later Assyria came in and took all the Hebrews out of Samaria and scattered them throughout southern Europe and Asia.

It will happen in that day that I will break the bow of Yisra’el in the valley of Yizre`el." She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, "Call her name Lo-Ruhamah; for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Yisra’el, that I should in any way pardon them. But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by YAH their Elohim, and will not save them by bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen." (Hosea 1:5-7 RNEB)

The northern and southern tribes of Yisrael were split, YAH said he would remove the northern tribes also called the house of Yisrael out of Samaria and scatter them, the southern tribe was the house of Judah which Elohim said he would have mercy on. Yisrael was not broken into two tribes until after the reign of Shlomo, Jeroboam Sholomo's servant became king of the northern tribes, he was an Ephraimite and Sholomo's son Rehoboam became king of Judah. Jeroboam was exceedingly evil in the eyes of YAH, he had stopped sacrifices from occurring in Jerusalem and put false idols before the people, so YAH snatched them out of the land first. This left only one house in Yisrael, Judah which YAH said he would show mercy and save, but not by sword, battle, horses, or horseman.

How YAH Saved Judah

Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived, and bore a son. He said, "Call his name Lo-Ammi; for you are not my people, and I will not be yours. (Hosea 1:8-9 RNEB)

Lo-Ammi means, no you're not my people.

Yet the number of the children of Yisra’el will be as the sand of the sea, which can’t be measured nor numbered; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, ’You are not my people,’ THEY WILL BE CALLED ’SONS OF THE LIVING ELOHIM.’ The children of Judah and the children of Yisra’el will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Yizre`el. (Hosea 1:10-11 RNEB)

This was confirmed in the new testament, however we need to read and study it in the old testament first in order to properly understand what it means.

Behold, the days come, says YAH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Yisra’el, and with the house of Judah: (Jeremiah 31:31 RNEB 606 BC)

YAH told us 600 years before this prophecy was fulfilled what was going to happen. Remember the so called new testament did not exist to 367 CE, anything the apostles taught about the New Covenant came from what they had been taught from the old covenant.

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, says YAH. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Yisra’el after those days, says YAH: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people: (Jeremiah 31:32-33 RNEB)

The operation of the new covenant is that the laws of Elohim would be in our mind, the mind would stimulate the emotions or inward man, and we would see the results of this in our works.

and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know YAH; for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says YAH: for I will forgive their lawlessness, and their sin will I remember no more. (Jeremiah 31:34 RNEB)

This is the New Covenant, exactly as it was taught in the new testament 600 years before it occurred. This is why YAH said, "I am Elohim, and there is none like me; declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not [yet] done; saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure;" (Isa 46:10).

Keep in mind that scripture said salvation to Judah first then the gentiles, which means Yahshua would be preached to the Hebrews first.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Yerushalayim, in all Judah and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth." (Acts 1:8 RNEB)

We can see the order in which the word was supposed to be preached, Yerushalayim, Judah, Samaria, and finally the utter most parts of the world.

who also said, "You men of the Galil, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Yahshua, who was received up from you into the sky will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky." Then they returned to Yerushalayim from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Yerushalayim, a Sabbath day’s journey away. When they had come in, they went up into the upper room, where they were staying; that is Peter, Yochanan, Jacob, Andrew, Philip, T’oma, Bar-Talmai, Mattityahu, Jacob Ben-Chalfai, Simon the Zealot, and Judah the son of Jacob. All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, along with the women, and Miriam the mother of Yahshua, and with his brothers. In these days, Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (and the number of names was about one hundred twenty), and said, "Brothers, it was necessary that this Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judah, who was guide to those who took Yahshua. For he was numbered with us, and received his portion in this ministry. Now this man obtained a field with the reward for his wickedness, and falling headlong, his body burst open, and all his intestines gushed out. It became known to everyone who lived in Yerushalayim that in their language that field was called ’Chakal-Dama,’ that is, ’The field of blood.’ (Acts 1:11-19 RNEB)

The plan of salvation was exposed to Judah first.

The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of Elohim. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Shaul, and blasphemed. Shaul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "IT WAS NECESSARY THAT ELOHIM’S WORD SHOULD BE SPOKEN TO YOU FIRST. SINCE INDEED YOU THRUST IT FROM YOU, AND JUDGE YOURSELVES UNWORTHY OF ETERNAL LIFE, BEHOLD, WE TURN TO THE GENTILES. (Acts 13:44-46 RNEB)

It was only after Judah rejected the word that it was taken to the gentiles.

Who has believed our message? and to whom has the arm of YAH been revealed? For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised, and rejected by men; a man of suffering, and acquainted with disease: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we didn’t respect him. Surely he has borne our sickness, and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by Elohim, and afflicted. (Isaiah 53:1-4 RNEB 712BC)

The northern tribes of Yisrael had already been dispersed at the time of this prophecy, so it had to be meant for Judah.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; everyone has turned to his own way; and YAH has laid on him the lawlessness of us all. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he didn’t open his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is mute, so he didn’t open his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the disobedience of my people to whom the stroke [was due]? (Isaiah 53:5-8 RNEB)

We know from our review of the sacrificial offerings that this is describing a sin offering, it's talking about a human sacrifice that we know now to be Yahshua, and it's being spoken over 700 years before the anointed came.

They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased YAH to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of YAH shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:10-12 RNEB)
I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins. (Isaiah 43:25 RNEB)

The old testament speaks of a new testament, it's very clear in Jeremiah 31:31-32, however many of the prophets spoke about, emphasized, and provided further illustrations of the new covenant, so we can see it more clearly.

"Don’t think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17 RNEB)
But the things which Elohim announced by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Anointed should suffer, he thus fulfilled. (Acts 3:18 RNEB)

The anointed came and fulfilled the prophecies of the suffering servant.

The Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot." (Acts 8:29 RNEB)

Philip is being sent to Samaria, the word had already been brought to Yerushalayim and Judah.

Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" He said, "HOW CAN I, UNLESS SOMEONE EXPLAINS IT TO ME?" He begged Philip to come up and sit with him. (Acts 8:30-31 RNEB)

It's crucial that we have teachers to properly explain scripture, which is the way YAH ordained it. We cannot understand scripture on our own, staying at home and reading is not enough, we must also be diligent to verify everything we're taught. We need to find a true teacher of Elohim as described in scripture, for a detailed understanding on this topic review the study called Moreiyah, Teachers of YAH.

Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, so he doesn’t open his mouth. In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth." The eunuch answered Philip, "Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?" (Acts 8:32-34 RNEB)

The Hebrew eunuch coming up from Ethiopia was reading from Isaiah 53, he did not understand what he was reading and required someone to explain it to him, a teacher. Philip explained the prophecy to him and how it lined up with Yahshua the anointed ben David, who was sent to be a propitiator for our iniquity. Isaiah 53 has to do with the final sacrifice, a human sacrifice.

Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Yahshua. As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being purified?" He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he purified him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of YAH caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn’t see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing. (Acts 8:35-39 RNEB)

It was the Spirit that told Philip to go over to the Ethiopian eunuch, then after he taught and guided him into the new covenant through purification, the spirit carried him away to do something else. They didn't know what to do, it was the Spirit of Elohim that was overseeing the entire operation.

But now in the Anointed Yahshua you who once were far off are made near in the blood of the Anointed. FOR HE IS OUR PEACE, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition, (Ephesians 2:13-14 RNEB)

Yahshua is our peace offering.

having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the Torah of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace; and might reconcile them both in one body to Elohim through the stake, having killed the hostility thereby. (Ephesians 2:15-16 RNEB)

The purpose of the peace offering is reconciliation, it's to repair the breach. We cannot understand the new testament, unless we have a complete understanding of old testament, because it's directing us to Yahshua. There is no way we can understand the language and fulfillment's in the new testament without knowing the old testament, which is the only place to build a foundation based on sound doctrine and understanding.

He came and preached peace to you who were far off and to those who were near. For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. (Ephesians 2:17-18 RNEB)
You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, (Colossians 2:13 RNEB)

Yahshua is our trespass offering, for all trespasses.

But Elohim commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, the Anointed died for us. (Romans 5:8 RNEB)

Elohim loved us so much he created the sacrificial ordinances to keep us clean and undefiled before him, and then sacrificed the anointed, which embodied this system and gave us a better way, by removing the burden of providing animals sacrifices for our sins.

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from Elohim’s wrath through him. (Romans 5:9 RNEB)

The purpose of the sacrificial ordinances was to cleanse us of our iniquity, make us righteous, and keep us from wrath.

For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to Elohim through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life. Not only so, but we also rejoice in Elohim through our Master Yahshua the Anointed, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. (Romans 5:10-11 RNEB)

Through Yahshua we received our atonement, that's three of the five offerings we reviewed in the old testament, again they were Peace, Trespass, and the atonement offerings all fulfilled in one man. We need to understand why he was given to us, it wasn't to nullify the law and the prophets, he told us in Matthew 5:17, "Don’t think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill". We will tie everything thing together in the last part of this series.
