Understanding The New Covenant IV

In this study series, we will examine the purpose and administration of the New Covenant in addition to understanding the reason for it. We will also review the operation of the sacrificial laws to understand their application in the new testament and address several questions often asked by bible students.

  • What is the New Covenant?
  • Has the Old Covenant been completely done away with?
  • What is the purpose of the New Covenant?
  • Has the New Covenant removed us from the laws of Elohim?
  • What does the Old Covenant consist of, and represent?
  • What was the purpose of the Levitical order?
  • How were the Levites compensated?
  • Why does the New Covenant state that Elohim will write his laws in our heart and mind?
  • What is the process to write Elohim's laws in our heart and mind?

We will continue to examine the operation of the third law, called the sacrificial or ceremonial laws to understand their application in the new testament.

To properly understand the new covenant we need to understand the old covenant. The sacrificial ordinances were the propitiators for iniquity given in the old testament which opens the door for the grace we have received in the new covenant age, which is Yahshua.

We have covered five sacrificial offerings:

  1. Burnt offering - For wholly giving yourself to YAH, and it signifies full dedication and commitment to Elohim. It’s the highest sin offering and can be offered at anytime.
  2. Grain offering - For thanksgiving, mandated to be done three times per year, on Unleavened bread, Pentecost and Tabernacles, though they could be offered as often as desired.
  3. Peace offering - For reconciliation and establishing peace.
  4. Sin offering - For disobedience to the laws of YAH intentionally, in ignorance, or weakness.
  5. Trespass offerings - For trespasses against YAH in the holy things and by being deceitful to our neighbor.

Beside these five sacrificial offerings, we learned he also mandated the atonement offering, commonly known as the temple tax or atonement monies. On Yom-Kippur each year, anyone over twenty years old had to give 1/2 sheckle ($6.00 modern equivalent) at the temple. We also showed in Shaul's writings the Anointed's fulfillment of some of the old covenant offerings.

  • Ephesians 2:13-16, Yahshua is our peace, reconciling us to Elohim.
  • Colossians 2:13, by the sacrifice of Yahshua all our trespasses have been forgiven.
  • Romans 5:8-11, Yahshua is our atonement.

These represent three of the offerings we discussed that were required under the sacrificial ordinances; the peace, trespass, and atonement offering.

YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "When you take a census of the children of Yisra’el, according to those who are numbered among them, then each man shall give a ransom for his soul to YAH, when you number them; that there be no plague among them when you number them. They shall give this, everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary; (the shekel is twenty gerahs;) half a shekel for an offering to YAH. Everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the offering to YAH. The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering of YAH, to make atonement for your souls. You shall take the atonement money from the children of Yisra’el, and shall appoint it for the service of the tent of meeting; that it may be a memorial for the children of Yisra’el before YAH, to make atonement for your souls." (Exodus 30:11-16 RNEB)

This offering was continuing to redeem them from the penalty of sin, which is death, even the second death, final damnation.

knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of the Anointed; (1 Peter 1:18-19 RNEB)

In the Old Covenant, we had the precious blood of lambs, goats, bulls, and currency. Yahshua has fulfilled the ransom money, currency, and animal sacrifice.

"Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of YAH, (Acts 3:19 RNEB)
YAH spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying, This is the statute of the law which YAH has commanded, saying, Speak to the children of Yisra’el, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, in which is no blemish, [and] on which never came yoke. You shall give her to El`azar the Priest, and he shall bring her forth outside of the camp, and one shall kill her before his face: and El`azar the Priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle her blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times. One shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn: and the Priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. Then the Priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the Priest shall be unclean until the even. He who burns her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even. A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up outside of the camp in a clean place; and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Yisra’el FOR A WATER FOR IMPURITY: IT IS A SIN OFFERING. (Numbers 19:1-9 RNEB)

Purifications (AKA Baptisms) have always been around, it's not a new practice of the new testament. There were many purification pools outside the temple walls, YAH has always required purification by water and the priests had their own dedicated pools.

Everything in the new testament has it's origins in the old testament, and it's impossible to understand the new testament without understanding the old testament.

Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of Elohim? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, (1 Corinthians 6:9 RNEB)

The only way to know who the unrighteous people are that will not inherit the Kingdom of Elohim is by understanding what it means to be righteous, which can only be found in the first five books. Many religious leaders teach that Yahshua fulfilled the whole law, and it no longer applies, however we are looking at exactly what Yahshua fulfilled, and we see it is only the laws concerning sacrificial offerings that we have been released from. How can there even be unrighteousness if there is no law, a standard to judge things by?

nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of Elohim. SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU, BUT YOU WERE WASHED. BUT YOU WERE SANCTIFIED. BUT YOU WERE JUSTIFIED IN THE NAME OF THE MASTER YAHSHUA, AND IN THE SPIRIT OF OUR ELOHIM. (1 Corinthians 6:10-11 RNEB)

If we have been washed or purified, we have been cleansed, if not we still carry iniquity. Purification comes through baptism in the name of Yahshua the anointed, it's also the only way to partake of the New Covenant.

let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, (Hebrews 10:22 RNEB)

We need to draw near with great sincerity and total conviction of faith. To be released from an evil conscience we must purge it out through the word of Elohim, David told us to walk with Elohim we must be obedient, humble, and submissive, then he will be pleased with our sacrifices.

let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23 RNEB)

We must be stable, hold our post, stand at the gate without yielding, this is referring to the conviction of our faith, our ability to keep sound doctrine.

DON’T BE CARRIED AWAY BY VARIOUS AND STRANGE TEACHINGS, for it is good that the heart be established by grace, not by food, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited. (Hebrews 13:9 RNEB)

We need to be diligent, to avoid being made ineffectual and powerless by following strange doctrines.

and from Yahshua the Anointed, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. TO HIM WHO LOVES US, AND WASHED US FROM OUR SINS BY HIS BLOOD; (Revelation 1:5 RNEB)

The purification ritual of the old testament has been fulfilled, the sacrificial ordinances have been fulfilled, and the atonement monies have been fulfilled. We no longer have to pay anything for our iniquity, the price has been paid for us. Lets continue to look at what the Anointed fulfilled. The old testament is pointing the way to a greater sacrifice which is going to fulfill all these propitiation practices and place them on the shoulder of one person, Yahshua the Anointed.

But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. For YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, "Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Yisra’el; but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it. When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death. The children of Yisra’el shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions. BUT THE LEVITES SHALL ENCAMP AROUND THE TABERNACLE OF THE TESTIMONY, THAT THERE MAY BE NO WRATH ON THE CONGREGATION OF THE CHILDREN OF YISRA’EL: AND THE LEVITES SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TABERNACLE OF THE TESTIMONY." (Numbers 1:47-53 RNEB)

Remember it was the Levite's that kept wrath from the congregation of the children of Yisrael.

YAH said to Aharon, You and your sons and your fathers’ house with you shall bear the lawlessness of the sanctuary; and you and your sons with you shall bear the lawlessness of your priesthood. Your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, bring you near with you, that they may be joined to you, and minister to you: but you and your sons with you shall be before the tent of the testimony. They shall keep your charge, and the charge of all the Tent: only they shall not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary and to the altar, that they not die, neither they, nor you. They shall be joined to you, and keep the charge of the tent of meeting, for all the service of the Tent: and a stranger shall not come near to you. You shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar; that there be wrath no more on the children of Yisra’el. (Numbers 18:1-5 RNEB)

YAH is setting up a process knowing that Yisrael would not keep his commandments, laws, and ordinances to cover them from his wrath. Therefore, he set up a tabernacle and assigned mediators who would offer up blood sacrifices to cover iniquity. To fully understand what iniquity is we must examine the first five books of the bible.

I, behold, I have taken your brothers the Levites from among the children of Yisra’el: to you they are a gift, given to YAH, to do the service of the tent of meeting. You and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood for everything of the altar, and for that within the veil; and you shall serve: I give you the priesthood as a service of gift: AND THE STRANGER WHO COMES NEAR SHALL BE PUT TO DEATH. (Numbers 18:6-7 RNEB)

This is why when there are priestly statutes being practiced by someone outside the ordained priesthood, which currently rests in the hands of Yahshua the Anointed and no other, there treading in an area that has a death sentence attached. For example, claiming the receipt of the tithe or first fruit offering was something only the Levite's could receive. These are no longer in practice because Yahshua has fulfilled this part of the ordinances.

YAH spoke to Aharon, I, behold, I have given you the charge of my wave offerings, even all the holy things of the children of Yisra’el; to you have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to your sons, as a portion forever. This shall be your of the most holy things, [reserved] from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every meal offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every trespass offering of theirs, which they shall render to me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons. As the most holy things shall you eat of it; every male shall eat of it: it shall be holy to you. (Numbers 18:8-10 RNEB)

YAH gave the sacrifices of the alter to Aaron and his family to eat, however if the blood went behind the veil they could not eat it, that sacrifice was a whole burnt offering. The food being eaten by the priests is symbolic of them taking sin into themselves.

This is your: the wave offering of their gift, even all the wave offerings of the children of Yisra’el; I have given them to you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a portion forever; everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it. All the best of the oil, and all the best of the vintage, and of the grain, the first fruits of them which they give to YAH, to you have I given them. The first-ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring to YAH, shall be yours; everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it. (Numbers 18:11-13 RNEB)

In the next scripture, we will see an example of Levi deferring wrath.

But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Yisra’el murmured against Moshe and against Aharon, saying, You have killed the people of YAH. It happened, when the congregation was assembled against Moshe and against Aharon, that they looked toward the tent of meeting: and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of YAH appeared. (Numbers 16:41-42 RNEB)

What we have is Korach and many of the leaders of Yisrael talking about Moshe and Aaron, questioning why they should be in charge. They told Moshe that he took too much responsibility, and since the whole assembly is holy, others needed to be allowed to participate in the role of priest. In response to these grumbling’s YAH killed Korach and many of the elders of Yisrael, the earth opened and swallowed them all. Now the people are blaming Moshe for doing this, for some reason they made Moshe the bad guy and didn't think it was a sovereign decision of Elohim. While this was happening a cloud started to form over the tabernacle, lets see what happened next.

Moshe and Aharon came to the front of the tent of meeting. YAH spoke to Moshe, saying, Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. They fell on their faces. (Numbers 16:43-45 RNEB)

YAH is about to release his wrath on Yisrael for their insolence, Moshe and Aaron loved Yisrael so they immediately fell to their face on their behalf.

Moshe said to Aharon, TAKE YOUR CENSER, AND PUT FIRE THEREIN FROM OFF THE ALTAR, AND LAY INCENSE THEREON, AND CARRY IT QUICKLY TO THE CONGREGATION, AND MAKE ATONEMENT FOR THEM: FOR THERE IS WRATH GONE OUT FROM YAH; THE PLAGUE IS BEGUN. Aharon took as Moshe spoke, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people. He stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died about the matter of Korach. (Numbers 16:46-49 RNEB)

This occurred because Yisrael murmured, opened their mouth, challenging Moshe and Aaron. Moshe and Aaron's mediation turned YAH's wrath, but 14000 still died. When the laws of YAH are broken somebody has to pay for it, lets look at another example.

David’s heart struck him after that he had numbered the people. David said to YAH, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, YAH, put away, I beg you, the lawlessness of your servant; for I have done very foolishly. When David rose up in the morning, the word of YAH came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying, Go and speak to David, Thus says YAH, I offer you three things: choose you one of them, that I may do it to you. (2 Samuel 24:10-12 RNEB)

YAH offered David three options for breaking his commandments.

So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? now advise you, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me. David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of YAH; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man. So YAH sent a pestilence on Yisra’el from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Be’er-Sheva seventy thousand men. When the angel stretched out his hand toward Yerushalayim to destroy it, YAH repented him of the evil, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay your hand. The angel of YAH was by the threshing floor of Aravna the Yevusi. David spoke to YAH when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house. (2 Samuel 24:13-17 RNEB)

We enter YAH's wrath when we disobey, he provided a propitiation process, so death was not the result of iniquity.

Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with Elohim through our Master Yahshua the Anointed; through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of Elohim. Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering works perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because Elohim’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were yet weak, at the right time the Anointed died for the unreverent. For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Yet perhaps for a righteous person someone would even dare to die. But Elohim commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, the Anointed died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, WE WILL BE SAVED FROM ELOHIM’S WRATH THROUGH HIM. (Romans 5:1-9 RNEB)

The Levite's were appointed to defer wrath, Yahshua is fulfilling the Levitical processes.

For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you; and how you turned to Elohim from idols, to serve a living and true Elohim, (1 Thessalonians 1:9 RNEB)

We have to turn from idols, which includes Sunday Sabbath, Christmas, Easter, Valentines day, and all other paganistic practices if we're going to serve the living and true Elohim. The instructions we must follow to walk in righteousness have been provided in the first five books of the bible.

and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Yahshua, WHO DELIVERS US FROM THE WRATH TO COME. (1 Thessalonians 1:10 RNEB)

Shaul is saying if we're part of this process will be delivered from the wrath to come, which is the judgment YAH will place on the face of the earth for sin and disobedience. We have a covering in Yahshua who has fulfilled the sacrificial ordinances, the purification laws, the atonement monies, and defers wrath from us.

By so much, Yahshua has become the collateral of a better covenant. Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death. But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to Elohim through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:22-25 RNEB)

Yahshua is our intercessor, there is no other. Only the priest can be the mediator and intercessor between Man and YAH and currently only Yahshua fills this role.

For such a High Priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; who doesn’t need, like those Priestim Gedolim, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself. For the Torah appoints men as Priestim Gedolim who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Torah appoints a Son forever who has been perfected. (Hebrews 7:26-28 RNEB)
Now in the things which we are saying, the main point is this. We have such a High Priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a servant of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which YAH pitched, not man. (Hebrews 8:1-2 RNEB)

YAH told Levi to pitch their tents around the tabernacle, so there wouldn't be any wrath among the children of Yisrael. Yahshua is now the tabernacle, high priest, blood sacrifice, atonement money, and purification process. He's fulfilling the propitiation cycle, he has taken all this on himself.

For every High Priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this High Priest also have something to offer. For if he were on earth, he would not be a Priest at all, seeing there are priests who offer the gifts according to the Torah; who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Moshe was warned by Elohim when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, "See, you shall make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain." But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. (Hebrews 8:3-6 RNEB)

Shaul is summing up everything we looked at in this study and tying it all together in the book of Hebrews. Sadly there are many that can't comprehend this book because they don't understand the foundational teachings found in the old testament.

Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services, but into the second the High Priest alone, once in the year, not without blood, which he offers for himself, and for the errors of the people. The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing; which is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshipper perfect; (Hebrews 9:6-9 RNEB)

Lets review the prophecy about the New Covenant in the book of Jeremiah.

Behold, the days come, says YAH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Yisra'el, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, says YAH. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Yisra'el after those days, says YAH: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people: (Jeremiah 31:31-33 RNEB)

There is a conscience issue, people are offering up sacrifices without a sincere heart, they have not been convicted by the word. Therefore, YAH did away with the old propitiation process and fulfilled it in one person, Yahshua the Anointed.

Shaul told the Hebrews that Yahshua fulfilled the old sacrificial system. They were concerned about Burnt offerings, Peace offerings, Grain offerings, Trespass offerings, and Sin offerings, not understanding how one man can take the place of all these things, but Shaul is detailing for them how Yahshua accomplished this.

If the old system had been perfect concerning the conscience there would not have been a need to continue offering up sacrifices. This is why YAH brought about a new process, nullifying the old sacrificial system for this age.

being only (with meats and drinks and various washings) fleshly ordinances, imposed until a time of reformation. (Hebrews 9:10 RNEB)

All these washings, sacrifices, and carnal ordinances concerning propitiation were given to us until the time of change.

But the Anointed having come as a High Priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation, nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: how much more will the blood of the Anointed, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to Elohim, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living Elohim! For this reason HE IS THE MEDIATOR OF A NEW COVENANT, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. FOR WHERE A LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT IS, THERE MUST OF NECESSITY BE THE DEATH OF HIM WHO MADE IT. For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives. (Hebrews 9:11-17 RNEB)

The covenant had to be sealed, and the new covenant was sealed by Yahshua the Anointed’s blood.

Therefore even the first covenant has not been dedicated without blood. For when every commandment had been spoken by Moshe to all the people according to the Torah, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which Elohim has commanded you." Moreover he sprinkled the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry in like manner with the blood. According to the Torah, nearly everything is cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:18-22 RNEB)

Nearly, all things are cleansed by blood.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls: FOR IT IS THE BLOOD THAT MAKES ATONEMENT BY REASON OF THE LIFE. (Leviticus 17:11 RNEB)

The animal sacrifices were required for their blood, which Elohim said was not enough, so he also required purification and atonement monies.

According to the Torah, nearly everything is cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22 RNEB)

YAH requires the shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sin, in the old covenant this was done with animals, in the new covenant YAH gave us a human sacrifice. Shaul is summing up all the propitiation ordinances which are the third part of the law, he is explaining to us that through Yahshua this has all been done away with.

It was necessary therefore that the copies of the things in the heavens should be cleansed with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For the Anointed hasn’t entered into holy places made with hands, which are representations of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of Elohim for us; (Hebrews 9:23-24 RNEB)

Under the ceremonial laws, the smoke of the continual burnt offerings ascended into heaven. Just as Yahshua ascended to make his appearance for us before Elohim as a sacrifice.

nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the High Priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own, or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment, so the Anointed also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without sin, to those who are eagerly waiting for him for salvation. (Hebrews 9:25-28 RNEB)
What then is the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise has been made. It was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator. (Galatians 3:19 RNEB)

Shaul is saying a law was added as a consequence of sin, which is the breaking of the commandments and corresponding ordinances. YAH requires that we keep the laws of holiness which shows the world who were serving, and the laws of morality which is how he wants us to treat each other. The sacrificial law was added for transgressions, so there would be a covering, something to hold back YAH's wrath when we break the laws of holiness or morality. YAH doesn't want sacrifices, he would much rather have our obedience, then sacrifice would not be necessary. The sacrificial laws were added until the seed should come, it was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator, the priests.

Now a mediator is not between one, but Elohim is one. Is the law then against the promises of Elohim? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law. But the Scriptures imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Yahshua the Anointed might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, confined for the faith which should afterwards be revealed. (Galatians 3:20-23 RNEB)

Before Yahshua came, we were kept under the sacrificial laws and were being guided, guarded, helped, and tutored by the Torah to bring us to Yahshua the Anointed that we might be justified by faith.

So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to the Anointed, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. (Galatians 3:24-25 RNEB)

After Yahshua came, we were no longer under the sacrificial law, the propitiation ordinances that had been given. However, we are still expected to follow the laws of Holiness and Morality as set forth in the first five books of the bible. Religious bodies refusing to accept these processes have established their own righteousness and have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of Elohim.

For the Torah, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? (Hebrews 10:1-2 RNEB)

There would not have been any need for further sacrifices if they were reformed by their prior sacrifice. The sacrifice didn't do anything for their conscience, it remained unclean. The fact that an animal was being sacrificed for an individuals sin should have brought some type of guilt and remorse, but it didn't.

But in those sacrifices there is yearly reminder of sins. For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire, but you prepared a body for me; You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin. Then I said, ’Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O Elohim.’" Previously saying, "Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them" (those which are offered according to the Torah), then he has said, "Behold, I have come to do your will." HE TAKES AWAY THE FIRST, THAT HE MAY ESTABLISH THE SECOND, (Hebrews 10:3-9 RNEB)

He took away the first process, so he can establish the second, Hebrews 10:1-9 is telling us what law he's removing, he's taking away the propitiation ordinances for sin, the animal sacrificial system, and establishing the second through Yahshua the Anointed.

by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Yahshua the Anointed once for all. Every Priest indeed stands day by day serving and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of Elohim; from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet. For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, "This is the covenant that I will make with them: ’After those days,’ says YAH, ’I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’" then he says, "I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS AND THEIR INIQUITIES NO MORE." (Hebrews 10:10-17 RNEB)

The offering of the body of Yahshua the Anointed replaced the slaughter offerings once and for all. At this time the priests were still repeatedly offering animal sacrifices which were no longer able to cover sins. Now the sacrifice of Yahshua would cause a specific set of sins to be remembered no more, many believe this is all sins, past, present, and future, however lets continue to see what Shaul said.

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. (Hebrews 10:18 RNEB)

Notice it says when there is forgiveness of these sins, which is all sins committed to this point, they will be forgotten, then there is no longer a sacrifice offering for sin. Therefore, once these sins are forgiven the blood sacrifice is no longer available, so it cannot be talking about future sin. Everyone needs to realize when we accept the sacrifice of Yahshua it's our past sins that will not be remembered, we start with a clean slate. So, what about the sins that occur after this point?

FOR IF WE SIN WILLFULLY AFTER WE HAVE RECEIVED THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH, THERE REMAINS NO MORE A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. (Hebrews 10:26-27 RNEB)

After we receive the sacrifice of Yahshua and are walking in the knowledge of truth, there is no longer a sacrifice for our sins, just a fearsome anticipation of judgment. At this point we can only hope that we make it to the day of atonement when YAH covers and releases iniquity, or he could show us mercy and blot out are sin when we ask for forgiveness. David said, "YAH if you mark every mans iniquity, how shall he stand before you?" We have to be much more careful now, were in a new age and there is a different process. YAH has given us the ultimate sacrifice and washed away everything we have done in the past, giving us a newness of life, a clean start. For a better understanding of this subject read the studies on the Blood passage.

We have an altar from which those who serve the holy tabernacle have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the holy place by the High Priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside of the camp. Therefore Yahshua also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered outside of the gate. (Hebrews 13:10-12 RNEB)

He is likening this to the burnt offering, the offering was burned outside the gate and Yahshua was killed outside the gate. Shaul is trying to do everything possible to show us all the propitiation ordinances have been fulfilled in Yahshua the Anointed.

Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Yahshua, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a great Priest over the house of Elohim, let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, (Hebrews 10:19-22 RNEB)

We must draw near with a true mind and completeness of faith. Whatever we receive into our mind will create a desire or emotion, which ultimately results in a work or response. Everything starts in the womb of the body which is the mind. To have a sincere mind we must renew it with the word of Elohim. The verse goes on to say we should let our minds be sprinkled from a wicked conscience, in the old covenant blood was sprinkled as part of the cleansing process for sin, Shaul is saying our minds are inherently wicked, controlled by the flesh, and we need to cleanse them with the word of Elohim. To learn more about the mind read the study series The Mind.

Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of Elohim. Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin. But now apart from the law, a righteousness of Elohim has been revealed, being testified by the Torah and the Prophets; even the righteousness of Elohim through faith in Yahshua the Anointed to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction, for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of Elohim; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in the Anointed Yahshua; whom Elohim set forth to be an atoning sacrifice, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in Elohim’s forbearance; to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Yahshua. Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what manner of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Or is Elohim the Elohim of Jews only? Isn’t he the Elohim of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed there is one Elohim who will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith. Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! No, we establish the law. (Romans 3:19-31 RNEB)

Just practicing the laws of Elohim alone are not going to justify us, we must be purified in the name of Yahshua the Anointed for complete absolution.

But he whom Elohim raised up saw no decay. Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins, and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the Torah of Moshe. (Acts 13:37-39 RNEB)

Through Yahshua all the sins of our past are cleansed and forgotten, which could not be done through the sacrificial ordinances given at Sinai.

"We, being Jews by birth, and not Gentile sinners, yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through the faith of Yahshua the Anointed, even we believed in the Anointed Yahshua, that we might be justified by faith in the Anointed, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law. But if, while we sought to be justified in the Anointed, we ourselves also were found sinners, is the Anointed a servant of sin? Certainly not! For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker. For I, through the law, died to the law, that I might live to Elohim. (Galatians 2:15-19 RNEB)

We have a new law, which is to accept Yahshua the Anointed which makes us dead to the law of animal sacrifice.

I have been crucified with the Anointed, and it is no longer I that live, but the Anointed living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of Elohim, who loved me, and gave himself up for me. I don’t make void the grace of Elohim. For if righteousness is through the law, then the Anointed died for nothing!" (Galatians 2:20-21 RNEB)

Keep in mind that YAH took away the first to establish the second. The first was the sacrificial law, just one part of the old covenant ordinances, not all of them.

Or don’t you know, brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives? For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man. THEREFORE, MY BROTHERS, YOU ALSO WERE MADE DEAD TO THE LAW THROUGH THE BODY OF THE ANOINTED, THAT YOU WOULD BE JOINED TO ANOTHER, TO HIM WHO WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD, THAT WE MIGHT BRING FORTH FRUIT TO ELOHIM. (Romans 7:1-4 RNEB)

Shaul is contrasting the two covenants, the laws that dealt with propitiation, animals, washings, and atonement monies with Yahshua. YAH has removed the old propitiation laws, completely nullifying them, so we can partake in the new process through Yahshua the Anointed.

Now that no man is justified by the Torah before Elohim is evident, for, "The righteous will live by faith." The law is not of faith, but, "The man who does them will live by them." the Anointed redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree," (Galatians 3:11-13 RNEB)

Sacrifices started after Adam, who was cursed with death, Yahshua came to redeem us from the penalty of sin and the curse, which is death.

You are alienated from the Anointed, you who desire to be justified by the Torah. You have fallen away from grace. (Galatians 5:4 RNEB)
For there is no partiality with Elohim. For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. FOR IT ISN’T THE HEARERS OF THE LAW WHO ARE RIGHTEOUS BEFORE ELOHIM, BUT THE DOERS OF THE LAW WILL BE JUSTIFIED (Romans 2:11-13 RNEB)

For it isn't the hearers of law who are righteous but the doers of law, that's why we covered all the scriptures that suggest we don't have to practice YAH's laws. It's ambiguous, unless we know what Shaul was talking about.

(for when Gentiles who don’t have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, (Romans 2:14 RNEB)

There is no way to follow the holiness laws by nature, such as keeping clean, the dietary code, and knowing exactly what pleases Elohim, this is talking about the inherent laws of morality were capable of doing by conscience, knowing the right way to treat each other.

Lets see how Shaul brings these two together, we know from Romans chapter two that we can't just be a hearer of the law, but we have to be a doer of the law.

though I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If any other man thinks that he has confidence in the flesh, I yet more: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Yisra’el, of the tribe of Binyamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; concerning the Torah, a Pharisee; (Philippians 3:4-5 RNEB)

Shaul is using his credentials as a way of getting through to the other Hebrews to show them how zealous he is for keeping the laws of Elohim.

concerning zeal, persecuting the assembly; concerning the righteousness which is in the Torah, found blameless. However, what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for the Anointed. Yes most certainly, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of the Anointed Yahshua, my Master, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain the Anointed and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in the Anointed, the righteousness which is from Elohim by faith; (Philippians 3:6-9 RNEB)

We need to go through the propitiation cycle to become wholly righteous, in other words we have to go through absolution, which consists of two steps.

The dragon grew angry with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep Elohim’s commandments and hold Yahshua’s testimony. (Revelation 12:17 RNEB)

Here we see the two steps, the remnant are those who are keeping the commands or laws of Elohim and have the testimony of Yahshua the Anointed.

Here is the patience of the holy ones, those who keep the commandments of Elohim, and the faith of Yahshua." (Revelation 14:12 RNEB)

The holy ones are keeping the commands of Elohim and the faith of Yahshua.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in the Anointed Yahshua, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in the Anointed Yahshua made me free from the law of sin and of death. For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards Elohim; for it is not subject to Elohim’s law, neither indeed can it be. Those who are in the flesh can’t please Elohim. (Romans 8:1-8 RNEB)

We receive Yahshua as our sacrifice, he replaced the old covenant process of animal propitiation and now holds the office the Levite's once held as High Priest and Mediator. We are never told to praise or worship Yahshua, YAH always receives all the glory, anything else would be partaking in idolatry.

Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the Torah), what further need was there for another Priest to arise after the order of Malki-Tzedek, and not be called after the order of Aharon? For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the Torah. For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. For it is evident that our Master has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moshe spoke nothing concerning priesthood. This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Malki-Tzedek there arises another Priest, who has been made, not after the Torah of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life: for it is testified, "You are a Priest forever, according to the order of Malki-Tzedek." (Hebrews 7:11-17 RNEB)

Yahshua being after the order of Malki-Tzedek in Hebrew is literally after the manner of Malki-Tzedek, who was a king and high priest, just as Yahshua. Malki-Tzedek had no death record, there is nothing written about him dying so it is as if his priesthood and kingship continues. These are the traits of the Anointed's life and that's why the comparison is being made.

For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness (for the Torah made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to Elohim. Inasmuch as he was not made Priest without the taking of an oath (for they indeed have been made priests without an oath), but he with an oath by him that says of him, "YAH swore and will not change his mind, ’You are a Priest forever, according to the order of Malki-Tzedek.’" By so much, Yahshua has become the collateral of a better covenant. Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death. But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to Elohim through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:18-25 RNEB)

What should be clear is the new covenant is predicated on the old covenant, the old covenant states in Jeremiah 31:33, "I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it", but we also know in the old covenant that Elohim gave propitiation cycles to keep them clean and holy, so that they were able to stand before him without wrath.

In the scripture we saw that Yahshua fulfilled the five offerings and the atonement monies. As Peter said, "we were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of the Anointed." Yahshua became the final purification process, this is done by washing in his name, which symbolized being washed in his blood. If we have been purified in the name of Yahshua the Anointed we have been engrafted into the covenant of Yisrael, and he defers wrath, just as the priests did under the old sacrificial system.
